Nonsense Story
- A man shot dead Friday evening was the 500th person to be killed in city gun violence since the start of the year during a weekend in which three people have been killed and at least 19 others wounded in Chicago shootings.
The city reached 500 shooting homicides about a week later than it did last year, on Sept. 29, 2016, according to data maintained by the Chicago Sun-Times. At this point last year, there had been 511 people shot to death.
In all, 537 deaths have been ruled homicides in the city since the start of this year, according to Sun-Times data.
You see what they did there? The Slum Times celebrates the 500th gun murder before mentioning the citywide total is actually 537 (HeyJackass.com has the total at 545.) They also attempt to put lipstick on this pig by Chicago is about a week off of last year's blistering pace, noting 511 had been shot to death last year.
This tells us two things:

- There is still a better than average chance that Chicago hits the 700 mark for the second year running, and
- since homicides are down from last year, and the only difference is who the President is, we can assume that Rahm will give Trump full credit for the reduction in homicides, especially as he was so eager for Trump to take the blame for other gun crimes.
Rahm can't possibly take credit since everyone else is to blame....someone else must be doing something right.

I became a police officer about 10 years ago. I work in "working district" in patrol. Yea it was more fun 4 or five years ago but it's still a good job. I can't understand why people on here bitch so much. The pay is great, time off, guys and gals with a sense of humor. I agree it's not perfect but it beats a lot of other jobs. Nobody told you to be a police officer in the first place and nobody told you that you had to stay. I'm sure your 60 hours at your local community college and your High school diploma at St. Whaterver will get you a job that pays what you make on the Dept. Anyways just venting. Stay safe guys and gals.

Lets look at the story and catch these offenders so the detective unit can have a 13% clear rate up from 12%:
Area Central detectives are investigating after the 22-year-old student reported he was attacked by a group of three men and two women around 8 p.m. in the 700 block of North Fairbanks Court on the Near North Side, according to Nicole Trainor, a police spokeswoman.
The university's alert described one of the male attackers as 5-foot-4 with white pants, a white, long-sleeved shirt and and jacket tied around his neck. The other two men were described as 5-foot-6 and wearing dark clothing.
Chicago police described all the attackers as being 5-foot-8 to 6 feet and 110 to 150 pounds.
(OK this is good white pants and white shirt with tied jacket, going to check the golf courses sounds like golfers! On another part of the story Nicole Trainor, a police spokeswoman. Another spokes person how many do we have? Does googleme just hire and move coppers whenever he wants? is she the police or another political hire?)

That's because by the time you got on the job the job was already heading into the shitter. I came on 24 years ago and experienced what it was like to be the police and not second guessed all of the time or have a camera shoved in your face. You were allowed to do your job and were supported and respected by the public.

This is a decent job and at this point you have to make the best of the cards that we've been dealt. You can either handle your jobs, be a hard charger, or something in between. Well the number of murders in Chicago this year likely will be below the level of 2016 but it will still be visibly higher than any other year since the early Bush 2 presidency.There are still 2 1/2 months to go during which the number will certainly reach at least 650 assuming an average of about 1.5 murders per day.So crime is down from an incredibly violent 2016 and it only started to sort of decrease towards the end of summer 2017.In fact the reason probably has something to do with the death of so many gang members in the past 16 months or so.Many gangs will need some time to recruit new members and start it all over again.I don't actually see any real change in policing strategies or anything like that so the real reason is probably too many gang members died and there aren't as many left to shoot.

On the other hand your observation about cops bitching too much is not too far off. However given the damage Obama has done to policing in America we earned the right to be salty.
