On that note you guys forgot to mention that the department is promising all kinds of great things for people to sign up for new FTO class, Like possibly a day off group or a start time or a tablet you can hang on the wall. They are getting desperate for bodies

To everyone out there, you can get promoted from the list without compromise.
I bombed my first promotion. It forced me to look inside myself and see me for what I was, an arrogant, angry, and closed-minded cop. It was my attitude--It stunk! (Thank you, Charles Swindoll)
Looking back I thought I was a good officer but now I know, lots of officers can think and "police" circles around me as a lieutenant but on the day of the test, none of that matters.
I humbled myself, accepting that promotion is not a conferred "right" but an opportunity to serve ALL society, even those citizens that cannot serve themselves. This view of providing a higher purpose helped me study under adversity.
Some people cannot envision a different future for themselves or are afraid to fail, so they never give their all, but we make our reality through our actions. You will be mocked for studying early. This is "admiration in hiding".
So 2 years prior to each exam I would start studying on my own with a special focus on crime & community strategies. Try to "visualize" the duties in rank to help with recall. I would take Bernstein and ONLY 1 other study group, but get as many practice tests from others as you can.
The 75% (haters) use "facts" that you need to be: female, male, Black, Hispanic, White, Irish, LAPA, HDO, BLM, T&A, S&M, FETLIFE, etc...lol, to get promoted. Agree with them, they are your friends! Your competition is the 25%, just like you - HUNGRY!
By doing this, I was able to beat "facts" and the odds and make it off the list - 3 tries out of 4.
Historically, classes are made just before Christmas.
What are they doing, angling for a feel-good news story over Christmas this year?
Maybe the media coverage of the graduation, with a couple hundred ppo's forced to attend to make it look good, is meant to counteract the negative news of the ridiculous murder rate in the city?
Ah yes and how many are cheaters just stupid cheaters who couldn't score high enough to be in the first few classes. Un-noble rules!

Actually yes, yes you do. The Sgt rank is down 65 Sgts. The Lt rank is down 20. Even at a full compliment of both we are still way short ratio wise than every other major metropolitan PD. Just because you didn't score high enough to become one of these 'too many' supervisors, don't spew your ignorance for everyone else to see.
I am very excited to see all the merit hacks come on the blog and try and justify their 2nd or even 3rd bite from the merit apple. It’s all legit True leaders my balls. Just work the radio room or bring a pillow to rollcall and you could be the next barb west.
Once again, after bid and watch picks. Why not wait till after furlough picks too? Is this a result of incompetence or an attempt to give people a holiday sodomization?
I'm last on the list with the merit picks do you think I'll make it this century. I screwed up I left the test answers at home that day darn.
They couldn’t bump it up 2 weeks so it wouldn’t affect watch bids. It’s like every single thing they do they don’t think out. Amazing.

With a shrinking Police force, is all these new supervisors really necessary? Not being sarcastic or anything, but Rahm keeps promising a thousand more cops, never delivers, more and more cops retire all the time and I don't know how many just up and quit.

They havent even gotten to 300 off the list yet. With this class they will exceeds that #. I hope this test is up until 500. Can't allow NOBLE, LAPA,etc steal more and more promotions with allowing these "SME'S" to have study groups. With all this cheating going on the rest of us are fighting for 3-5 spots per 10.

. The reason for the email is so anyone who is within the promotion range can take unused furlough time BFD or PD’s. If they are in Sgt or Lt school they are required to forfeit time off or lose the promotion. There have been grievances filed in the past that they should be payed for unused time off. Here the city is attempting to “give notice” so use or lose with no financial consequences to the city. On another note you have 72 guys picking furloughs and bidding watches who will no longer be in there current assignment come next year. CPD doesn’t care that just opens up more management spots they can hand out to whomever they want. 72 guys over all the unit and districts really doesn’t add up to many furloughs or watch assignments but if your the guy getting screwed then yes it sucks.
I call BS on a new Sergeants test. We’re just getting to the guys who actually deserve the promotion. No answers, no secret study groups just guys that spent their own time reading over general orders and preparing themselves for the exam. With all the merit and cheaters they should go well over 500 if not then stop wasting money on giving the fricken test to make it appear legit and make whoever you want.

Typical brain trust at 35th are going to wait till after watch bids to make the classes so that 72 patrolmen and 18 sgts take up watch bids and furlough picks just before they get promoted taking good spots from other officers. After doing this year after year you would think at some point they would learn or then open those spots immediately, but no it never happens. I’m happy for those getting promoted, but their on their way out they end up screwing over people causing more resentment with the whole promotion process.

I agree with 2:06AM for the most part.
Unlike him, I used my cynicism to my advantage. I answered every question imagining that it would be graded and judged by police haters. Lie your ass off in any essay portions. Show empathy for whatever victim group is presented. And always show a willingness to fuck the police.
Like 2:06 said, you’re competing against the hungry, about 25%. I would add to that that you’re probably fighting for about 50% of the Sgts slots, and 30% of the Lts. Slots after you deduct meritcloutorious and those who have been given either the answers or questions to the test.
You can still do it, study and go in with a mindset that you’ll write anything on test day to better your finances.
You can make it off the test, I did.
Enjoy that extra moolah and get the fuck out as soon as you can.
They're "making" about, around, at least 22 Sergeants.
(Spots will be opening up for the next generation of dense house mice.)
The other 50 are from studying and passing Two Parts of a biased exam.
(Wouldn't be surprised if that FOP granted customary 30% Gift is somehow expanded by 3 or 4.)
Of those 22 "made" sergeants, most probably haven't worked the skreets since 2005, some will make demands on their charges to improve response times, stop more carloads, write shitboats of ISR's and log you 6x a day.
Of the remaining 50 or so, hope don't forget where they came from and what era they'll be working in.
Some coming from finer environs and dumped into the 1st & 3rd watch ghetto expecting young bucks to chase and arrest like its 1995 all over again.
Keep in mind those COPA rules of engagement as newbs will be handling most of the queries during the warm months in lieu of a 5-6-7-8-9 period furlough.

Well, let's see if the Supt is a man of his word. I specifically remember being at two of his "Town halls" where he informed officers that merit would come from patrol because everyone at a unit already has a good thing...
I say this because rumor is, one merit Sgt. will be from New Affairs, and supposedly thus person went to an Ivy League school and still couldn't score well enough on the Sgt's test.
Second rumor, a Sgt. from News Affairs is also getting merit Lt. If that is true, and is that is the only merit Lt. not from patrol, that still means that 20% of merit Lt. is from HQ.
They probably justify/hide it by showing where they are assigned and not derailed to....
LT list is currently at 100. 3 were previously passed over for education. It should be 14 from the list + 4 merit.

I been hearing a new policy on IOD is being floated around. This has been in the works for couple years. Officers need to know since everyday they risk life and limb... when is this policy being put out to officers so they are not caught in catch 22. Think officers before you risk yourself anymore.
Oh boy more chiefs. What is needed is more Indians without their hands tied. More chiefs will have no effect on crime running wild. Just rewarding more clouted. Yes, 21 merit from the last merit posting. They don't ask for merit for every class made. I'm sure this will be the last go round for merit then they will ask for packets again. 51 from the list 21 from merit.

Already, newly assigned Lt. Mark Sedevic has come to the district from Englewood, where he said he contributed to a 42 percent drop in violent crime over the past two years. In charge of the district's plainclothes officers, Sedevic said he is encouraging unmarked police cars to drive through the area and for officers to use plate readers to spot stolen vehicles that could be used as getaway cars.

So your version of logic tells you that the people who studied the hardest, are the most knowledgeable, the most deserving, somehow couldn't manage to score in the top 300? No one up to this point studied as much or more than your "guys who actually deserve the promotion?" The best and brightest can't get the best scores or even close to it? The most deserving person somehow allowed almost 300 people to beat him? That makes zero sense. I hope you're not counting yourself among these "deserving." Time spent studying and reading doesn't magically make you the most knowledgeable or most deserving. It doesn't mean you'll be the best supervisor. It takes more than reading and studying. It even takes more than scoring well on the test.

Oh you wait and see! I'll wait until she is promoted, then I'll name her, it can be foia'd by then anyway. I guess there is no sgts qualfied in a certain Northside lakefront district to be put in for Lt, that or the commander thinks very little of the people that work for him.

I know it sounds incredibly niave to say this but I really expect the next round of promotional exams to be handled more professionally. The testing scandal headline cuts too much at the departments credibility fat a time when they are preaching accountability for them to open themselves up to criticism. Don't get me wrong. there will still be cheaters but I dont see HR allowing subject matter experts inside the department to have access to the test next time around. the cheating will come from HR and city hall not from within the department.Still dont trust their process just saying the cheating wont be as rampant or apparrent next time around.

Aug 2015 second part of last LT test. announced results November of 2015. Going to go to at least 160 on list. Those who don't make Captain are maxed and will most likely take 2% insurance if the LT are smart.
More like going to at least 200. Bank on it.

They have made 359 from this test so far not counting this class of 72 . 272 off of the list and 87 merit. It's easy to look up in Jasper. Just take your original score and deduct from there. Also take into account people who were promoted off of the 2006 test who took the 2014 test and scored well, people who left the dept, don't have college, or simply just don't want it. My score went down almost 30 spots Bc of all of those factors. Good luck to everyone.

There is no way the list is that high...my buddy was 312 after removing people who were promoted from the old score and he isn't a sgt yet so HIGHLY UNLIKELY they are over 350 unless they skipped #290-ish thru 350....

Well you ole vet you... I've got 6 years on and made Sgt last year. Guess I'm the new kids you speak of but the great thing is that unlike you I didn't complain I just did good on a test. You though just complain. You're so old school you couldn't retain enough knowledge from being on the street so long that you couldn't pass a test. You years of infinite wisdom one the street are so useful that it got you nothing. Listen, seniority means nothing if your just a complaining mutt who did nothing for his entire career. I love when guys beef about something and always cry because they have seniority. That kid got an early car and I'm stuck on a late car but I've got seniority. He got time on the end and I didn't and I've got seniority even though I just asked for time at 10pm the night before when the kid had a slip in and approved for weeks. My personal favorite, my car has 120k miles on it and Thorne young kids got a brand new beat car. Yeah, but that car is assigned to that beat and you are assigned to a beat that has an older car.. "yeah but I've got seniority". Seniority means nothing in life. The contract gives you some decent things based on seniority but it sure doesn't mean that you know more than someone else... love it when 30 year career house Mouses try to pull seniority on someone who works.. it's hilarious. Especially when the house mouse tries to spit knowledge about what to do.. 9 times out of 10 it's rediculous and completely wrong. Enjoy retirement, it's about the only thing that seniority will get ya that actually means something.

Im not sure why you keep ragging on Douglas. He was there, everyday, working two shifts. Anyone who worked in 006 at the time could tell you that. Should he have got that much OT??? I really can't answer that but there is no doubt he worked it.

No she made Sgt, she was in the first class. She was the only Sgt in her class to go to 012, and 6 months later she was back downtown. The word "husband" might have gave it away that she may have a different surname than her sister. Her husband was also assigned to a soft district from sgt school and was bequeathed a team.

It's great you can catch pimpy mistakes on e-track that I didn't catch. But I had to direct you how to print out a manifest because you never picked up an inventory from homan for a case.

We have one of those in my district. He came from 20, he is supposedly heavy. All his guys talk shit about him. One blue shirt tells him to his face "I'll go train you, you don't know anything." ..and he just sits there. Kinda sad allowing a blue shirt to desrespect him though.

Writing a search warrant is not complex or difficult, it's fill in the blanks. Don't pat yourself on the back too hard. Going to Homan to pick up inventories??? Hahaha please. Search Warrants are a pain in the fucking ass, that's why people don't do them. If you thought that made you a great cop, well you're wrong.
All that being said having 6 years on the job, its great for him that he made sergeant, but he's going to be a shit sergeant simply because he has not been exposed to enough shit(a search warrant for dope/gun is about as low on that priority list as possible).

I heard the same thing.
The last class eligible for the last sgt. Exam was Dec 09...mr. 6 year sgt is lying..it is like one or two guys who made sgt. From Dec 09 and mar 09 they both like 32 34 ! Actually alot of my buddies made sgt. Between the ages of 32 and 38...its crazy if only I got on a few months earlier...
How about the "O"ne way "s"nake merit puke sergeant in 019 who seems to find a way to treat POs like garbage on a regular basis. His condescending attitude and ineptitude speak volumes about the failure of the merit system. The guy is a snake oil salesman who has gamed the system his whole career. Unstable as a wheel without lug nuts, and the epitome of a back stabber.
