600? Again?
- Chicago is close to recording its 600th homicide for the year, only the second time the city will have reached the grim milestone since 2003, according to data kept by the Tribune.
After a weekend when 30 were people shot, five of them fatally, the number of homicides stands at 593 this year, according to the Tribune's database.
That's below the 681 homicides this time last year but substantially above other recent years.

The trend is upwards, no mistake about it, and it's all under Rahm's watch.

The trend is here to stay. Too many prohibitions against those who actually do proactive police work. If you have to second guess yourself everytime you respond to some incident, its best not to get involved. Proactice police work is like kryptonite to superman nowadays.
When you have to justify every little decision you make and then put in writing to be scrutinized by level after level of supervisory review, its best to avoid the mess in the interests of self preservation and not bringing dishonor or shame to your family name. Many officers will concede the war on crime had been permanently lost. Why subject yourself to risk when you make yourself vulnerable to discipline, termination and lawsuit after lawsuit? Or being the claim to fame for a federal prosecutor who seeks a lifetime appointment to a federal judgeship and the much sought after coveted bragging rights of prosecuting a Chicago Police Officer. No interest by federal prosecutors in the villains who are shooting up the streets killing and maiming at will unchecked in the nation's third largest city, so the blame in on a federal level too.
The real victims are the good law-abiding tax paying productive people who have put their trust in government institutions and so called leadership whether it be the courts, the politicians, the judges, the current states attorney regime, the command staff of the police department, etc. Goverment whether it be federal, state or local levels, has failed in its primary obligation to keep its citizens safe and maintain order in society. So many extremely disappointed average everyday good people were sold an expired bill of goods with the Hope and Change propoganda with the expectation the annointed messiah, his worshiping minions and his lasting legacy would fix everything. Not! It has Progressively gotten worse.
why is 600 daed by murder a bad-thing benchmark ? more can be divvided among the current batch of un-daed's. This is nothing that a nice, juicy tax increase can't fix

Personally when he voted for President Trump, thinking we would have some kind of change in Chicago, thinking he would send the federal Justice Department here you go after the elected for a start wire like the term allies let's just say the ones for harboring illegal invaders, honestly nothing is changed just a lot of smoke a lot of talk nothing else really disgusting listening to it all the talk and no action enough talk! People get tired of hearing about it we know we have a major problem for my corruption to our bloodshed, from the politicians lie and steal from taxes going extraordinarily higher and higher. Police are being attacked in Chicago on a daily basis from the dishonest media to the elected officials to the people on the street, as a matter of fact Chicago police officers are being attacked by their own bosses! We all had hope President Trump would be the great savior to help the city he preaches want to order as a Chicago police officer have you seen anything change for the good in the city on our side? For the good of the police officers in the city of Chicago? Absolutely nothing is change for us it seems to of gotten even worse spiraling down that hole The mayor do you elected putting together so many various organizations to " investigate" hard-working police officers for absolutely anything they deem not correct.
I have worked with so many police officers in the city that a hard-working family people, it's still do everything they can to try and keep the peace with all the rules of all the criticism that is perpetuated upon us all. What the good citizens do not see is the hard part of police work which is probably 70% of the job, it is not like the police shows you watch on television the fantasy is what that is the reality is police work is dirty, gritty, heartbreaking to see how people act to see how people live to see the disrespect for police officers parents teachers and anyone at all that's in any authority! Citizens that criticize the police should be given the option to spend a full tour of duty and a patrol vehicle in a high crime area to really observe what goes on then maybe just maybe things could turn around God bless the police forever!

Yes, sadly, you are correct. 900 plus murders a year was common during the 70s, 80s and early 90s and not much was said.

yes, we used to have 900....when the city's population was a million more than what it is now. Oh, and most murders were contained to projects. Now murders are happening on our own home soil.

In Chicago most of the time except for the misses, it's offenders shooting other offenders which is great. How many future offenders have been shot dead in their tracks. Just think of all the future crimes they would have committed. Best crime reduction ever!
