Everyone Can Pitch In
We're pretty sure that most citizens in Chicago don't want to be First Responders, but that isn't stopping some from trying:
- Medical experts say anyone can employ a few basic techniques to achieve the same results when confronted with a life-and-death scenario. And a public service campaign called “Stop the Bleed” aims to do just that: teach bystanders to save someone’s life by learning basic blood-stemming techniques.
Stop the Bleed is a national effort established by the White House in 2015 as one response to the Sandy Hook mass school shooting three years before. It aims to arm civilians with skills and bleeding control kits to provide crucial aid in an emergency until medical professionals can take over.
[...] In Chicago, more than 3,000 people have been shot this year, and the victim of a gunshot wound can bleed to death in only five minutes.
Bystanders are on the scene before first responders, and experts say bleeding remains one of the leading preventable causes of death for such victims.
We have our doubts about this effort. LEMART is good training for coppers to have - and the life you save might be one of our own - or even your own. But having civilians place themselves in jeopardy, crossfire, or on the wrong side of a gang conflict is problematic (we know of many stories of shooters coming back to ensure the job is done, or finishing it if not done). We guess if you go in knowing the risks, it's on you. Lord knows there are plenty of places on the South and West sides to get in some practical experience.

Problem with this is that these 'bystanders' won't put down their phones and stop recording to actually help anyone.....
If it a victim render aid. If it's a shooter or viable suspect let them bleed.

Way to complex...how are they suppose to administer any first aid when your busy trying to post your video on facebook
Let's not forget Roger's Park, Postage Park and Uptown too, SCC. Those areas have been known to have occasional flareups too. Shootings aren't exclusive to the South or West side anymore.
Lets not forget about aids, hepatitis, and a whole bunch of other undesirable infectious diseases possible through blood exposure!!!!! Brilliant idea. "BETTER IDEA" How about keeping gun offenders in jail. How about putting repeat offenders and gang members in jail. Oh yeah, I forgot, against Kimmies guidelines at the CCSAO. Oh well I say let them continue their devastation, there's nothing any politician is willing to do! I just hope the stupid liberals remember all this at election time!!!!! Oh wait I forgot, there's nothing anyone can do, just wait for murder and mayhem.

I never once saw a bystander give first aid to a yute victim unless they themselves were a medical professional. They wont even show up to court and you think they are going to get blood all over them and their clothes?

Before everything got all fancy, as a young police officer, I would carry a clean white sock with me. Whenever someone was bleeding you could tie the sock around it or stick it directly on the wound.
As the ambulance took them away, I would tell the bleeder that they could keep the sock.
Now, kees me you fool!!!!

3,000 gun shot victims , 500 murder victims , 3,000 deaths or more from heroin overdose in Chicago , who are the victims , offenders , what political party are they registered to vote with , what percentage of victims , offenders are from a single parent home
Invent a cell phone case that doubles as a tourniquet since the first thing everyone grabs for is their cell phone.
How do you render first aid while using your phone to video the event.....and which is more important to the typical ghetto rat bystander
Old retired guy here. We tried to carry first air kits that had more than one compress bandage in it. We told the fire department objected because it was the CFD job and not ours. Also, remember when we carried fire extinguishers in the cars?
And yes, I did take the LEMART training. It was some of the best training I ever had.
l carry first Aid Equipment for Good Citizens and My Co workers,Not Shitheads.
A citizen program such as this has its merits especially for home.
Could it be used by feral community combatants during the course of their violent engagements?
Probably not.
There's a reason wild animals don't assist one another, say a bear in a trap or a deer with an arrow in its hind shank.
Besides motor abilities, the rest of the pack always runs away for their lives.
Trying to treat or free a wild animal isn't safe.
Know who and what to save.
I say let nature run its course when encountering a feral street animal
Save the LEMART tools for self preservation or buddy as intended.
Basic knowledge should be learned, especially to treat the real kids and law abiding citizen.
Emanuel, in his desperation to get 'hood votes, will soon find money to pay the good street people to learn basic life-saving skills. It'll be enveloped into a 'job training/skills workshop.' Better believe that when a shooting does occur, the street people with these skills will be too intoxicated/drugged up to help or they'll bolt from the scene...

Don't forget that 1st responders are covered by law that they can't be used but a good Samaritan can! Help the 1st responders but .not the ungrateful tutes!!

There is a Doc named Pilch or Pulch who works over at the chicago health department, used to run an ER out at Rush or some other local hospital who has been making the rounds at TLO meetings the past year or so.
She works with some kind of intel unit running out of health that consults with HQ and the Square on narco, wmd's. and other officer safety issues. Lady is on point and holds the room when she talks, knows trauma and cares about the uni's on the street not just the brass.
Why isn't she teaching this stuff?

I have an Adventure Medical Kit trauma kit in my backpack from REI that has Quikclot and gloves inside. It's really good stuff, but this being Chicago, I'm worried of diseases, lawsuits and more.
Only people I'm helping are my family and fellow LEO's and Fire.
With all the blood pathogens that can kill you and most of the bleeders being the mutts with these diseases, it's giving me pause. Finally retired and waiting for a home to be built in Colorado. I don't think I'm participating in trying to stop some asshole from bleeding out and later trying to find out what HIV strain is killing me.
That will be our fault too.
It’s good training to have for anyone - even non LEO. If someone wants to stop the bleeding on their injured loved one, I respect their choice. Maybe it’s not even a shooting - perhaps it’s an industrial accident where the training comes in handy.
I’m also glad some non-LEO are stepping in appropriately. Like the guy in Texas who confronted the church shooter. M
I hate Police impersonators, but I would be grateful for anyone that steps in if I’m ever getting whupped on the street. Back before organized law enforcement, that’s what people did. They helped each other out.

Umm, you've got that a little mixed up.....
An untrained civilian is covered under the "Good Samaritan " law if their efforts cause further injury or death...
Technically even the basic first aid class you receive and whatever in service "training " the city gives you puts you in a different category
At least with a bleeder you can pretty much narrow down the issue...
