Carjackings Waaaaaay Up
- With gun violence garnering unflattering national attention for Chicago, carjackings have quietly gone off the charts as well. While shootings and homicides are largely concentrated in impoverished pockets of the South and West sides, carjackings are occurring throughout the city, including the downtown area, Chicago police statistics show.
Last year Chicago recorded 663 carjackings, nearly double the 339 in 2015 and the most since 2009, according to the department. And the numbers have shot up even further so far this year. Through Oct. 18, the latest date available, carjackings have totaled 661, nearly equal to all of 2016 and a 44 percent spike from the same period a year ago.
Carjackings started to spike last year, when homicides and shootings skyrocketed while crimes in virtually every other category rose. The causes are unclear, but some officers felt the furor over the video showing police shoot teen Laquan McDonald 16 times led to many officers reducing their aggressiveness on the street, emboldening criminals.

- But carjackings have risen as well downtown and in trendy neighborhoods. In the Shakespeare police district, which includes the Wicker Park, Bucktown and Logan Square neighborhoods, carjackings nearly tripled to 36 so far this year from 13 a year earlier. And two patrol districts whose boundaries include the downtown area, Near North and Central, had a combined 42 carjackings through Oct. 18, almost a fourfold increase from 11 a year earlier, the statistics show.
Well, if you have nicer cars, you should be prepared to give them up to the "have-nots" so that they can feel better about about some imagined wrong when they go out to shoot a rival, do a stick-up, roll through the front window of a store.

We need to develop dependable local Chicago sources to monitor these Antifa gangs - they are a distinct national gang with unique ways of dressing (masks) and acting. Antifa is overwhelmingly White, people from Middle Class or upper middle class families and they tend to stay on and mooch (live in basements) of their families and avoid honest employment.
Antifa tends to take root in Lib Left University communities like U Cal Berkeley and University of Virginia Charlottesville and our own University of Illinois Chicago circle campus.
These White Antifa gang members (they are a gang) like to be near, but not in very low income Black, undocumented communities - as these Antifa types envision that they are like the Cuban revolutionary chic leader "Che".

In the rare case charges for a stolen car get approved, if it’s a minor he gets released before the victim gets their car back. Rather than properly charged in adult court. Gangs know this...

Thugs know the cops can't chase them anymore, especially if they speed up and take off. So car jacking has become a low risk crime. "No chasing"is a glaring example of how a policy restricts police action and increases violent crime, but the politicians, academics and our own brass won't acknowledge it or change it.

I work south burbs. Carjackings are way up out here and everytime we id the offender it's a juvi. They are on our quiet blocks where nothing usually happens at all. The kids seem to have more pistols than the adults.
