Gun Theft

You want to know how guns get into circulation? Large numbers of guns? This isn't getting any play in the lame stream media:
  • Federal authorities are looking for suspects who stole a shipment of guns from a Springfield postal facility.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives said in news release Tuesday that sometime between Saturday evening and Sunday morning, the suspects broke into trailers at the facility and took several items, including a shipment of firearms.

The firearms were part of an interstate shipment being sent to a federally licensed firearms dealer.

ATF is offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to an arrest and conviction in the case.
  • The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is investigating a break-in and theft of firearms from a Springfield package facility that were destined for Bass Pro Shops.

In a news release posted to Twitter, the ATF said a person or persons unknown broke into the UPS freight service center in the 2500 block of North Le Compte Road.

"They forced their way into several trailers, removing numerous items, including multiple firearms that were part of an interstate shipment destined for a federal firearms licensee," the ATF said.

[...] The ATF was notified after UPS security realized the shipment included firearms.

Ham said "several" handguns and shotguns were among the items stolen.
"Several" handguns and shotguns. How many guns? Don't be shy:
  • It's nearly 1,000 guns - 600 pistols and a few hundred shotguns
But hey, why let anyone know that? After all, the anti-gunners can rail about the "ease" with which guns make their way onto the streets and wreak havoc across the Midwest. So they'll try to pass another useless law that will make democrats feel good about doing something while decent law abiding citizens have to jump through another round of hoops, and no one, not a single person, looks at the security issue of under-secured rail yards and truck depots.

That is enough guns to be national news.

Its also enough for another atf fbi sting operation or three...to backfire.

There is zero way that isnt a inside job.

How did they know "the shipment" had guns in it? Someone had to tip them off? Someone had to know what the shipment contained?

Smells funny to me. It just does not make sense.

And another thing. If all these guns are now "on the street", all the efforts of picking up one or two from people is for nothing. These are all "first quality" guns. It should be easy to spot who has one.

Wow!

Fenced at say, $100 per gun, that is $100,000.00 dollars. I am sure there was no inside information used. /s

This happens more often at USPS and delivery companies than gets released publicly. When the situation can be exploited politically, like a major railroad that can be squeezed dry for real estate deals, community parks, and political donations, its front page news with politicical candidates threatening a government take over. When its less politically feasible, its buried until it has use. Two easy solutions: enhance infrastructure security and spend a little more on security forces. These are companies who won't spend a few cents more for a decent lock because of the close profit margins. Eventually from shrinkage costs and government regulations shipping costs will increase. Of course, all these extra costs will be passed down to us, the legal and responsible consumers.

600+ guns in the wrong hands, great! If the media reported this there would be panic in the streets. Gun sales would skyrocket, Cc permits would triple and the citizens would realize the police are powerless to protect them. The liberals would be wringing their hands not knowing what to do. Move, prey, piece circles and hot coco might be options but none will stop thugs with a gun and bad intentions. My advise is arm yourself legal or not and be prepared. Better to be judged by 12 then carried by 6.

Who cares what kind of job it was. Your all missing point of 1000 good guns on street in bad actors hands. Wake up this is a war being fought in your backyard. You or a loved one could be the next victim of one of these guns. Demand tough policing from the administration, no more coddled criminals especially ones caught with one of these stolen weapons. Demand Kim Foxx prosecute to fullest extent gun crimes. Demand judges give toughest sentences possible. Organize and demonstrate in front of courthouses where judges are letting criminals slide. Have signs with judges names that are letting criminals go. The media loves protesters. Name names when interviewed, shine light on the stupidity. Finally failing that course of action, get armed as quickly as possible. Those guns are out hunting as I write this.

Bought a rifle a number of years a go and had it shipped. It came in two boxes, one the rifle itself and another of accessories, both addressed to a local gun shop. The accessories box 'disappeared' at the Champaign UPS center after it was scanned off the truck. I called and was told by a very disinterested person the only thing I could do was file a report. I told them it was a firearm and I was calling the ATF for theft. Five min. later they called back and told me they 'found' it in a closet. It showed up at the shop about an hour later.

Theft is a "non-violent crime." No prosecutors (state or federal) will prosecute it.

It would run counter to policies of "restorative justice."

Anytime a large quantity of firearms like that is shipped, it should be guarded by 2 armed guards. The gun companies can share the cost of paying for the guards. If that drives up the price of a firearm, it’s unfortunate but I’ll understand. I️ am a 2nd amendment advocate, but I can’t imagine all of the havoc these stolen guns will be utilized to cause, by those who have lost their right to purchase or carry a firearm via their irresponsible behavior. Armed transport is the only way the gun-haters will say the industry is making the necessary efforts.

This theft makes the thousand guns that officers across Chicago and it’s suburbs work hard to take off the street moot. Your hard work should be held in higher regard. You should not be tasked with putting your lives at risk in traffic stops and reponding to calls, recovering firearms in life and death scenarios, only to have them replaced in one fell swoop with a simple theft because no one was there to secure them. Diamonds are transported by armed guards. If diamonds get stolen, no cops die. Not so with guns.

And of course it’s an inside job. It’s not like they were shipped in boxes that said “guns in this here box”.

But let one gun, sold 7 years ago legally, show up and its'; "We have to license and then close all these gun stores, for the children".

So is this a "one background check" purchase?

And the good news is, there is a three day cooling off period, at least for several hundred of these guns.

Man o man I sure an glad we have those gun control laws and police to enforce them, a FBI even to do those nics checks for the FFLs.

Wait. It was a shipment to a FFL that got jacked! WTF!

Now we have a situation where the USED market is really in danger of buying STOLEN GUNS! Gee, it is almost like that is the main thrust here, huh? Yall BETTER NOT be buying any used guns in the near future...especially "great deals"!

Hey, how come we the people can't access the database of stolen firearms? You know, so we could "trace" weapons we want to by to make sure they aren't sizzling hot?

So many rules, so many laws, so many conditions apply to firearm owners.
Name checks, FOID validity, etc etc...

In purchasing a previously used firearm-what about checking the status of the firearm itself?
Just to see if it’s serial number is in LEADS/NCIC, lost, stolen, taken in a residential burglary car burglary, train car burglary or other means of in-transit loss...whatever?

Even a supposed brand new firearm, too...why not check them?

Private transfers require FOID checks so while on the phone with ISP, run the serial number...same with GunShop transfers and purchases.

(How many stories have we heard of our guys going through losses as mentioned? My family member lost several vintage, collector handguns in a residential burglary years ago, only one has been recovered by attentive CPD during a street stop as all the serial numbers were in the system)

Springfield MO - doesn't matter, same criminal climate.
Google the address. Huge lot in an industrial complex. Quite inaccessible for a someone to wander upon.

So somehow just a few 40ft. trailers stacked front to back, around 8-9ft. high with boxes on pallets that have a 4" x 6" standard shipping label...IN THE DARK. Although it's certainly possible that there's a special dunnage pallet clearly marked "Guns-Don't Take".
I know UPS yards are a well light, tall barbed wires fences and a check point charlie at the gate 24/7. Cameras and of course No a Trespassing or Guns Allowed.
Hmmmmm.
I can't find two matching socks in a dresser drawer in daylight.

Just how does a wandering pack of joe-shit ragman manage to get away with carrying boxes of guns, and perhaps some hip waders and camo wear, unseen? That's a lot of poundage to tote.
Hole in the fence and loaded up an awaiting never returned Dodge Charger rental?
It's a 7 hr. ride back to Chicago or 3 to the greater St. Louis - Ferguson area...but a lot quick doing 80-90 without a license and nothing to lose.
No reason to stop a carload of youthful obamaDOJ protected occupants.

For the record, UPS is an inclusive equal opportunity employer.
I guess Jugghead Special Ed will include these stolt'guns in his next podium opportunity should they eventually be entered and recovered. Wouldn't surprise me if he tries to collect a reward too.
Is this another fine moment in lingering post-obama mismanaged, vague ATF?

Inside info, got right to the goods among multiple trailers and a clean getaway. That's how guns get to the street mugs, not due to easy gun laws in states around Illinois.

Simple solution...

Flood the urban gun underground with proof test
power level+ "ammo" and monitor the hospital
E/Rs for assholes mysteriously showing up with
blast/fragmentation injuries to their faces and
hands.

Cue:
Some joyously ignorant m/fer shoving a pistol
down his jock only to negligently drop the hammer on a
100K PSI "squib."

Or better still?

One or three or so vehicle borne assholes brandishing
rifles and the whole damned works go up because they
all triggered 200K PSI "squibs" at the same time.

>Car Bomb<

Roof peeled back and every asshole inside is
laid out like King Oscar sardines in a burned
and busted-the-fuck-up can...

An unconfirmed?

The Israelis were "funnin'"
with their internal security "problems"
in similar such fashion some years ago...

>Joyous ululation at finding a cache
of "free" and unencumbered "ammo"<

>Half-dead/wishing they were dead
assholes stumbling away from the
blown-to-smithereens sled they were
just riding in<

Seen the A300 shotgun with barrel cut down and chopped stock. This is a very good auto shotgun and to the new police who think a shotgun is a weapon somehow less in their minds, think again, your in deep shit with these shotguns in circulation. If the mutts load these A300's with oo buck, 4-buck, or slugs, its a problem people.

Inside job highly probable, but not guaranteed. UPS knows almost everything about all packages that go through their system in real time, and it's all stored in a centralized digital infrastructure with numerous internal and external interfaces like the tracking number lookup website. And anything exposed to the outside world, however 'secure' they might say it is, has vulnerabilities...

Thug Life Inc. wouldn't necessarily have to be the ones doing the hacking, they just need to know a guy who knows a guy who's dialed into the high-tech underworld.

I am sure there will be surge in applications for FOID cards. In addition, any gun seller will certainly check the Illinois State Police site to ascertain whether the buyer has a valid FOID card. I am also confident that the seller will keep for 10 years a receipt of the gun transfer transaction.
It is also time to have another no-ask gun buy back program, a known violent crime reduction technique.
