Body Cams Almost Complete
So we were slightly off - not all Districts have body cams yet...but they will before the end of the year:
- The Chicago Police Department announced earlier this year that its body camera program will roll out in all all police districts before the end of the year – one year ahead of schedule.
Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Police Supt. Eddie Johnson have decided to step up the deployment of body cameras, and have every patrol officer in all 22 districts wearing one by the end of 2017. Originally, the city planned to complete the rollout by the end of 2018.
Special Ed actually gets in a zinger:
- “We’ve seen where citizens love recording what we do, so now we are recording what they do. Honestly it helps us be better at what we do, but we have also seen where it changes people’s behavior when they know they are being recorded also,” Johnson said.
So when do the Units get them, since that's where Special Ed is hiding a majority of officers nowadays.

All search warrant executions should have to wear them (all members).
All aldermen and staff should have to wear them at all times.
All civilian employees in Chicago should have to wear them.

Do you see the problem? Everyone is able to do anything with no video, but the police keeping the order are unable to keep the order anymore due to the cameras.

After our roll out in 019 just days ago I went up into the area where I was told that no body cameras were Allowed. I said, "Well it's not On" One Det. said "It's Always On" I said "so is my cellphone, but its not recording you either" Needless to say I stayed as did my camera. The reason being is that the Det. might have victims on the floor and they don't want them being recorded. Isn't the victim going to be going to court at some point in the future?
They don’t change people’s behavior one iota. That’s the reality. Any working copper knows this. I don’t know where they’re getting this change behavior bullshit. What we have created instead is a whole legal criminal justice system that will not prosecute or take the officers word with any credibility without video. So i say fuck you and your bwc then. Sit back enjoy your beverage and don’t rush to anything. You know what to do.

Handle jobs properly and do the bare minimum and you won't have any problems.
Start being proactive with these cameras on and now you leave yourself open for lots of interpretations, second guessing and conflicts with offenders that will always look bad.

Wonder if the "secret squirrel detectives (clearance rate 18%) will be mad they they finally get the body cameras and the marked squad cars for more visibility? It is a good plan, was at 35th street with the marked vehicles and the gps the order is being cut now if any district is in a "rap" they can be given jobs to respond to,and many will be in uniform as they are "assigned as detectives" and are patrol officers making a higher pay rate!

Why was the infamous Lt one "N" visiting his former stomping grounds and giving pointers to the future Homicide detectives?
I was videoing a family doing with my smart phone, and when I replayed it; the entire video was so blurry you could hardly make it out. Cleaned the lens and I was back in action. Just trying to be helpful, after that Big Mac please try to keep your finger away from your body cam lens, I know everyone is trying to do what's right. Or not

The cameras can be good for the officer, however, I believe the officer should have full discretion on when to use the camera. The citizen can wear their own camera that the officer can't shut off.
They should start a pay cable channel with the footage. It could fund the cameras, data storage, and have enough left over to fully fund the pensions.

If you did any police work you’d know that all do have to wear them during the execution of a search warrant. Go back to your bullshit CAPS office.

Ok kid, I saw the order that states, Do nothing "FNG's like you will be assigned to locate witnesses and shuffle them back in forth to Area's for Detectives in your Marked squad with camera and gps. FYI kid, witnesses' are reluctant to talk to anyone in uniform. therefore you while post is full of BS. Just like you are.

I think its common knowledge that once you’re inside a police facility there is longer a need to have a camera on. With the rare exception of escorting an out of control unruly arrestee back to lock up. Nobody needs to hear about your weekend bet on the bears game. That being said some of these Dets need to relax. When the office tells you it’s off. Why would they be lying to you? Because he secretly wants to thwart your investigation? As a patrolman I’ve gone to areas many a time for this or the other and have never been told to leave my bwc behind as it’s mounted to my vest and I’d rather not leave it in the car since I’m liable for the equipment.
