Does anyone else ever wonder what it would be like to work for a professional police agency? One with honest promotion exams, and qualified leaders. I'm totally embarrassed of this Department. I've never felt so ashamed to be part of this Department.

This department is a joke and it’s only going to get worse. These are our meritorious leaders, folks! I’m ashamed to tell people I work here.

And we wonder why people laugh when you say CPD, and we have no respect on street. Wow. If I was in charge, she would have been IMMEDIATELY DEMOTED if I knew a Commander of mine was riding a damn camel in uniform trying to recruit. WTFFFFFFF

As she is representing the CPD, did she have Departmemt approval to be on a camel’s back? If not why hasn’t a C.R. been initiated for representing the Department in an unprofessional manner and conduct being discredit upon the Delartmemt.
They keep hyping up the money. When they get a bunch of replacements for the workers who only came on for the money, I hope to be gone.

I feel sorry for that old thing, getting marched out there for the public spectacle, confused and abused... at least the camel looks like it’s having a good time!
I'm new on the job. I want to be an exempt like Crystal King-Smith. She must have a high IQ and loads of career felony arrests. Can someone tell us about her career that made her worthy of becoming a police executive?
I can’t even begin to explain the intensity and variety of thoughts and emotions I felt as I watched that video. I’m 53 and have 27 years on this job. There are three policemen I drank beer with that were murdered on the streets of this city and another eight that don’t function physically all that well from attempts to murder them. I don’t care if “55 and out” is still around in 2019, I’m getting out. I’ve always enjoyed working and worked hard. I’ll find something with insurance for my wife and myself. That commander is an insult to any officer that ever walked twelve flights to a domestic in 002 when it was still “the deuce” or any detective that spent the 2 or 3 days trying to romance a statement out of a murderous cur. I don’t even know who that woman is, but I know all about her. I could go on a tirade about the management of this department, but what’s the point? The only chance we had was the DOJ investigation. They could have pointed out the true corruption of this department; that nepotism and cronyism has left us with a management structure that couldn’t spell cat (or Cato) if you spotted them the “c” and the “t”. Instead they went after the average Joe pushing a Beat car on 1st Watch. I’ve known Eddie Johnson since the week I got off probation. He’s a nice man, but he’s barely capable of being a sergeant, much less the superintendent. Nothing can be saved now. I’m a supervisor and I’m embarrassed at the department I’m leaving behind. I’m ashamed that I failed the men that trained me when I came on. My FTO was just some guy on the Watch whose partner was on IOD. He had left this job and went to Vietnam where he was wounded twice. He came back here and was shot in 011 in 1968. To this day he was instinctually the best policeman I ever met. And this is my legacy to him. A camel riding commander incapable of speaking in complete sentences. I have twin 21 year old daughters, a 19 year old son and a 17 year old son. If any of them told me they were coming on this job I’d pin their neck to the floor with by boot and cut off their trigger finger, I don’t care if they never spoke to me again, they could pick their nose with their other hand and maybe they’d be mayor one day. I’d know I did right by them.

Why are we reaching out to a community that preaches hate for us, actively resists efforts by us to help, lauds it's criminals as heroes, abuses their wives, children and every social program put together to help them. Why aren't WE just trying to fix that community instead of inviting them in, giving them the keys to the kingdom and lowering our standards?

My god it feels great I left CPD and have never regretted my decision for one sec. It was well worth the pay cut. Then six years later I maxed out at 103k a year.

I was an FTO for just over a year. When we tested everyone held their exams until a group of 5 was finished. Once the group was ready we all marched down to the SCAN TRON machine and we each handed the grader our exams and he feed it into the machine. Out came your exam. Right there with the raw score stamped on it. And at the end everyone's score was posted on a sheet by employee number and you knew where you ranked amongst others. The machine wasn't racist. It didn't ask about your clout. You just got a score and your rank and that was that. Simple. Why can't the Sgt exam be the same? Wait months for an exam result? Ridiculous.

FOP dues for retired members is $40.00 a year.
CPD appears to have plenty of Commanders that come up as comical subjects on the blog. Anybody have an opinion on your former CPD Commander Fletcher, who is currently Calumet City's Chief? Officers I know who work there, say he's pretty decent.
We should get a fleet of camels put in our next contract. Awesome job Dean Angelo. I think the camels would live longer than the Ford Explorer anyway.

CPD appears to have plenty of Commanders that come up as comical subjects on the blog. Anybody have an opinion on your former CPD Commander Fletcher, who is currently Calumet City's Chief? Officers I know who work there, say he's pretty decent.

So you don't work for CPD. And you don't work for Cal City but the officers who DO work there say he's pretty decent.
What are you trying to find out and WHY do you care?
Crystal never saw much of the streets, not even in 005 where she started. Through the years, I would hear of her and see her at 35th Street. First as a sergeant, then lieutenant and the last time as a Captain. And seemingly having never left the confines and relative safety of working inside. This has nothing to do with being a nice person, it has everything to do with having leadership skills and experience which unfortunately don’t come included with multiple merit bumps. These are necessary qualities if you are going to be responsible for possibly making crucial decisions that affect the future of your subordinates. I’m sorry but I wouldn’t want my financial future or the future of my family’s well being decided by her actions or decisions. She’s not the only exempt with that background either and it isn’t determined solely by race or gender. There’s enough to go around for every group to claim. It’s symptomatic of the CPD.
Just had a chance to watch the video. It's a recruitment pitch, at a circus, from a commander on a camel. Your all so fked.
Talk about that rule violation- bringing discredit upon the Dept!!

And they won't have to. There are plenty of spots in the front office, commanders office, watch secretaries, CAPS to mention a few. Then you will also have better chance of getting a merit promotion or two or three than a beat man

Feels great to not work for cpd. I also took a brief pay cut but well worth it. Enjoy the circus "real police" I still know some clowns that still think cpd is impressive. Those guys are great for a laugh.

For those commenting regarding race or reaching out to specific communities: Did Supt. Terry Hillard ever make a spectacle of himself on any type of animal or become any type of circus sideshow? Not to my knowledge. Whether one liked him or not, he carried himself in a professional manner that a high ranking leader should. He would have never attempted to attract recruits with the promise of "bling-bling".

Don't listen to the grumpy '88 copper. But really, do yourself a favor and leave this job immediately before its too late and you're too vested to leave. You might not know it yet but if you stick around you'll be surrounded by assholes the rest of your career on and off the job. I'll have 20 in one year and I won't be 50 but I'm leaving and whatever happens happens after that. Get it through your head right now if you're not politically connected that this job is the road to nowhere. I have no true friends on the job and I despise the public. I'm a man without a country. I hate going to work and I barely talk to anybody when I'm off duty. It took me too long to see what was going on. You're on the wrong train and its on the wrong track. Don't wait until the next stop to get off. Jump off now.

Safe to say you weren’t at the Cubs games last year....
In fact I was, Saw him following the Supe. and a video crew making a video. like I said he was following the boss as he was told.
