Can't Hire? Why Not?

  • This year’s city budget is going to be even more interesting than usual, Ald. Tom Tunney [44th] predicted last week.

    And it isn’t just a matter of dollars and cents this time around, he said.

    Speaking at an Oct. 18 Lake View Kiwanis Club meeting at Ann Sather’s restaurant, 909 W. Belmont Ave., Tunney said the Police Dept. is having a hard time finding recruits.
It might have something to do with qualified applicants being rejected out of hand solely for their complexions, being told they're "psychologically ineligible" or any of a dozen reasons as Rahm attempts to curry enough favor to win a third term. Being made into a political football during the last part of your career is one thing. Coming in knowing it - well, that's something else.

I'm not sure why anybody would want this job but to each their own. It's easier coming on the job now knowing what's in store. The new people will really have no idea what it was like to actually be the police and I don't mean chasing people and bullshit arrests But just having the presence we use to have. When you appeared on a scene people would actually scatter or show some fear. That's no longer nor will it ever be the case again. Politicians and media have ruined police departments across the country. But CPD is totally destroyed and will never return. I would tell anybody , could be friends of friends, their families , even my own son Stay away from law enforcement. But definitely stay away from CPD. It's gone and will never come back

SCC, my nephew, who is the son of a CPD
officer, and grandson of a retired CPD sergeant,
was disqualified after his psych test.
Five months later, he received an email from
HR inviting him to retake the psych exam.
He declined as he was hired by another department.
If Mayor Rhamacide said 8700 qualified applicants were
available, why are the giving another test so soon!?

Do not blame the background investigators that qualified people are not hired. The company that conducts the service are the only ones that are legit and do all that CPD requires of them in the process. They only hire a vast majority of retired former CPD detectives and they were the cream of the crop when they were otj.

HR is the bandit that gets the word from the hall to very much limit very qualified male whites to get hired. HR disqualifies them for some B S reason with the shrink that has had the contract for a long ass time and the 3rd. world phycologist's are not worth a shit. They get their marching order' from HR how to handle the white male kids and white females to an extent. Fine some reason to axe them white folks !

Nothing is fair in this city, people that cannot tie their shoes get hired and straight laced white kids get the boot.

To all the rejected ones, you wont regret and feel bad not being hired in a year after getting the rejection. Count it as a blessing.

Yea, my son fit into that profile after he told them his parents were CPD. I am glad now because of what's occuring now, and now I don't have to worry about him being the police. He now has a good job in the private sector.

The CPD has always been a political football and will be for the foreseeable future. Maybe if Chicago fell into the lake and had to start over, nope slime floats and would wash up on shore to pollute what's left. Who the he'll is pushing him to come on this job? Why would anyone come on CPD anymore? Why would anyone even go into LE?Especially with the pension situation. Now the new hires after January 2011 really get hosed.

I won't mention him by name but the police Chief of Yakima WA was former CPD OR and he is not pushing his kid into being LEO. He is in welding school.

My exwife and I both CPD of over 20 years have a 20 year old daughter and both of us talked her out coming on the job.

Back when I took the exam there were over 30,000 testing. 30,000. Let me say it again. 30,000. Exam every few years. Now?
Come on. Why would anyone on this job tell their kid to come on? Even if you have clout?

Getting rejected from cpd is a blessing, My biggest regret was taking it, but the best day was leaving for a new job. Don't fall for it, being forced to live in chicago should be enough to not take it.

The company that is doing the background investigations for the CPD recruits will hire anybody to do the work. They are definitely not just hiring those that were “the cream of the crop”, far from it!

As a p/o in HR, I am totally shocked at the number of candidates that are being rejected as mentally unfit. This contract with the shrinks must meet their quota. Past rejected candidates re-applied, passed and were hired. Turned out these people are some of the best new hires we have had in years. Perhaps the connected doctor(s) should be re-evaluated then launched!

I have three relatives who wanted to take the exam. Their really good kids, and when they asked me for advice on coming on this job, I steered them away from this shit job. One is waiting for a position on the US Marshals, and an other went to a smaller PD department. The third guy moved out of state with his girlfriend, and is applying for a PD in Arizona. I told them their white and their changes are slim to none to get hired. The deck is stacked against them, and I'm glad they payed attention and took my advice. These mentioned kids are highly qualified for police work, but I'm very satisfied tiny dancer is not getting them and is getting what he deserves, criminals and gang-bangers. Just look what's coming on...............

As I said in my post on the "Alleged" 14,000 Applicants. 1. The Polygraph is knocking them out at a breakneck rate. 2. The use of illegal substances. 3. And of course the Psych test, which has become what Flat Feet for Black Applicants was in the 70's & 80's.
However, are these tests being used in an "Arbitrary" manner? For example, several of my former students, admitted to smoking marijuana within the last few years. And they admitted it on the polygraph exam. While friends, who have also smoked with them in the last few years have been hired! Two of these rejected students actually reached the point of having the investigators visiting their homes. SO WHAT IS THE SPECIFIC STANDARD FOR DRUG USE? THE ANSWER IS; THE "SHITTY" WILL NOT SAY. If there is one, as with federal agencies, that specifically say, if you smoked "Weed" so many years ago, don't waste your time applying; money and time could be saved. CPD will not lock itself into a specific time frame because they know they have violated it already. One Attorney, with Very little experience but a lot of time on his/her hands, will again become very wealthy over the incompetence of CPD hiring practices. And I have not even begun to raise the issue of Race! CPD should not arbitrarily play with peoples lives like this and not expect a backlash. Sworn Depositions from Officers hired, vs. Applicants not hired; might prove a "Pattern", that will be undeniable, especially in front of a jury of suburbanites at the Dirksen Federal Building. My son is a former Marine who was rejected because his ex-wife said he was a bad husband. The city investigator took the work of an ex over the stack of letters of recommendation from his superiors, family, friends. We took it to the board 2x at a cost of almost $10k total. We won the first time and they reassigned it to the same ahole investigator (now retired) who rejected him a second time for the same reasons. Back to the city hiring board who this time agreed with the investigator. Low and behold, six months later he gets an email asking him to take the next test. He told them to go pound sand

My son was disqualified because the instructor giving the sit up portion of the physical test did not like the way he was doing the sit ups. The young man was a division II football All American and a College wrestler. He runs the mile in 6.5, can Bench over 300 lbs. and can actually do legit pullups. He also has a Masters in Criminal Justice. After being rejected he asked me what I thought about the process: I told him it was probably one of the most fortunate things that ever happened to him. Now he knows that everything is a fix. He probably would never be promoted and would be working for some merit moron or affirmative action dunce his entire career. Why put your life on the line when chances are the pols and leadership will never have your back.

the city said that they hired 75% minorities so that means that they are deliberately excluding white applicants from the list, that sounds like a great lawsuit if you are a white applicant. this is reverse discrimination.

Im curious how do you evaluate the "best new hires we have had in years?"

What metric do you use to define it?

Personally, I think the PPOs now are much better than the PPOs of the Impact Era.

I'm being serious when I say 50% of the Impact Kids are pure fucking retards still. I thought Impact made them stupid, but that's been over for two years and most of them are still stuck on stupid.

Is this just anecdotal or has it been proven?

get hired anywhere but here is my suggestion.
HR asks 500 to show up for power tests, maybe 300 show up, only 35% are passing the power test and then 50% of that pass drug screening. LOL.
If you fail some aspect of power test, they tell you to come back next time and re-take it. They failed a bunch of caucasians about 25 years ago, anyone who was in the Vrodolyak lawsuit was hired and given back seniority, but not pay. The next test most of the others who were failed, were then hired. Get an EXCELLENT attorney, maybe Vrodolyak again, it appears to be a pattern and practise to fail a certain racial demographic it should be easy to prove with FREEDOM OF INFORMATION requests on all applicants and rates of passing/failing.

File and suit, and get these mutts who allegedly hold PhD' to be a guest at a sworn disposition. The owner of this shit firm and his doctors (alleged) will shit a brick and start singing what CPD and mayors office tell them to do for many a year and whack male white applicants. Military people too.

Time to fight back like minority' did for baseless to get hired when a minority firm was hired to write the CPD and CFD tests for years. CFD minorities not hired filed and won, and won big after failing a test as said above.

The reason why the city is allowing retesting with the shrink is cause Burke' wife driver was axed at the shrink.

Time to reverse the tables now. File away on the CPD, your case will be ten times more creditable then any minority cases filed. How they showed there was discrimination is baffling.

Old timer' might remember when CPD minorities sued for the reason and got back pay, and sonority (Pension too) cause they were not hired sooner.

This shit storm of minority discrimination has always been big in Chicago (CPD and CFD) for ages and you hardly ever hear of this crap in big cities such as NYC or L.A

Old man Daley fought and lost big when the Federal Judge, Prentiss Marshall, ruled in favor of the minorities in the early 1970'regarding CPD hiring practices.

Chicago native living in California here. I can tell you, the reason you don't hear about it in LA is because it already happened. Huge reforms after the Ramparts and Rodney King debacles. Half of the city is Hispanic and there is a large amount of Hispanic officers, though whites are still "over represented" (whatever that is supposed to mean).

LA is segregated, not as much as the midwest, but still segregated. And cops there often reflect the demographics of a given area. Not as a social experiment, but largely due to language/culture barriers...
