- A man was in custody Sunday night after he shot someone and assaulted two others during a robbery at a steakhouse where he used to work near the Magnificent Mile, authorities said.
About 11:45 p.m., the man entered Lawry’s The Prime Rib, 100 E. Ontario St., and found several employees in the locker room, where he restrained them, stole their cellphones and announced a robbery, according to Chicago Police and the Chicago Fire Department.
One of the victims interrupted the robber, who then opened fire, police said.
A 28-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound to his right arm and was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hosptial, where his condition was stabilized, police said.
Right off of the Magnificent Mile.
Crime has burst it's artificial banks and is popping up in previously "safe" areas with astonishing regularity. Someone commented (we can't find it right now) that 016 had four separate shooting this weekend - an area where shootings were practically non-existent a decade or so ago. And Rahm continues with the smoke-and-mirrors of increasing the number of officers on the streets.

And when I heard there was a homicide in Lake Forest over the weekend, I didn't have to ask.
016 is up for grabs. It's impossible to get reasonable articulable suspicion and then approach in a safe fashion and then articulate why that subject is believed to have a weapon in order to frisk them.
It's outrageous.
Oh don't forget: 1.form a zone of safety 2. Call for CIT 3. Call for sergeant 4. deescalate with a peace circle 5. Get harassed from WOL why the arrest is taking so long after 12 inventories, video footage review, and computers that freeze up.

According to CPD Administration, Body cameras will solve all crime, scare offenders, and encourage officers to be proactive! :) Since the entire department will have body cameras by end of year, expect 2018 to be crime-free with ZERO murders. Thats what CPD headquarters touts to the public, right?

I live in 019, traditionally one of the city's safest neighborhoods. Since completing the IL concealed carry class two years ago, I've taken 72 hours of additional training and put close to 10,000 rounds downrange. I'm not a cop, I'm not a cowboy, and I'm certainly no Walter Mitty. But I read the papers, read Second City Cop Blog, read Crime in Wrigleyville & Boystown, and talk to my friends who are on the job. I know the aldermen where I live including Waguespack (good guy), Pawar (asshat), and Tunney (bigger asshat). And I remember Rahm from when he was our Congressman, elected with the illegal help of the soon-after imprisoned Don Tomczak (http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2006-11-10/news/0611100304_1_hired-truck-program-mayor-richard-daley-water-department). I know that everything said by Rahm and Daley (biggest asshats of all) is a lie, including "if" and "and."
Twenty years ago the neighborhoods around us banded together to work with 019. Along with increased vigilance, reporting of crimes, court appearances, neighborhood engagement, and property taxes, the last of the gangbangers were chased out. Young couples moved in and, unlike their predecessors, when their kids reached school age, they stayed, sending their kids to the neighborhood schools that they worked hard to help turnaround.
Today, roaming thugs leap out of cars and stolen minivans on nearby streets putting guns to the heads of innocents who are commuting to and from work or their daily errands, robbing them of whatever they might have -- a phone, a tablet, a laptop, some cash, a car. The illusion of safety is shattered. And all Rahm can do is tell fresh lies about how he's "reforming" the CPD that he and Daley ruined with third-rate "merit" promotions and superintendents who do nothing but their bidding in order to provide political cover. All the while, Rahm, like Daley, hangs out to dry the white, black, Latino, Asian, straight/gay/bi, Catholic/Protestant/Muslim/Buddhist/agnostic/atheist, right-handed/left-handed, short/tall/fat/skinny/fit men and women who are the officers of the CPD standing on the front lines trying to do the job by the book, trying to go home alive to their loved ones at the end of their shift, and trying to keep safe the citizens of this city.
God bless everyone of you out there who serve in spite of Rahm's contempt for you, in spite of the decades of Daley's neglect, in spite of the B.S. that rains down on you from court jesters like Pawar and Tunney, in spite of the third-rate reporting that comes from lazy journalists more concerned about a political narrative than the truth, in spite of community "leaders" who stir up hate, in spite of members of the public who hear "Chicago Police Department" and wrongly conjure up images of the 1968 Democratic Convention.
In the meantime, like my wife and I, many of our neighbors have recognized the reality in which we now live -- a reality where the probability of a threat exceeds the capacity of the too few patrol officers on our streets. We have legally armed ourselves, we get training, we keep our heads on a swivel. We think in "what ifs"?
We're not vigilantes. Far from. But we know that in this environment, where for political purposes criminal behavior is tolerated and excused by the likes of Rahm, Preckwinkle, Dart, and Foxx, it can erupt next to us at any minute. We're just determined that, if God forbid it does, we can give ourselves, our families, and our loved ones a chance to escape becoming its victims.
Like my wife and I, our neighbors pray for each of you. That you do make it home safely at the end of your day. That you don't let your frustrations drive you from the noble profession you've chosen. That you don't abandon us even when we don't always understand or properly appreciate the sacrifices you make to protect us.

About 6-7 years ago in 019 the opened the COH on Halsted, the savage discovered that he could be told what a victim he is and how loving their community is. Of course he took every opportunity to rob and beat the peaceful citizens every chance he could. Halsted is the new west side with savages walking in packs, blocking traffic, yelling as a form of normal conversation. And of course they don’t spend any money in any of the businesses. Scc I have been saying this for years all the city cares about murders period. If murders are down then that is what they go by. This year the murders are down so that is what the city is gonna go on. It sucks but they can give a hoot about robberies and agg batts with firearms. They must not have paid the inspector what he wanted. Their kitchens are extremely clean. Nothing buzzing around - they have the air curtains by the kitchen door, those "blue light" fly traps on the walls, glue traps under desks, regular exterminator visits. Chefs run around with thermometers in their jackets (and use them), everything's done right at that place.
Manager is fastidious about stuff being clean and a really nice guy. I've been in a lot of restaurant kitchens - this is one I never have to worry about.
None of those bullshit "no guns" signs on the doors either.

I would love to do some real meaningful police work in a tax paying district for once. I might even do an ISR or two up there. But alas my bosses say I need to man the corner of Jackson and Keeler 24/7 in case the locals decide to engage in retaliatory shooting. I have mission boxes to attend to. Can’t have the merit bosses getting yelled at Compstat because the community is having more homicides. That would be unacceptable. Don’t worry your tax dollars keep flooding the south and west sides with more police but once we get those areas under control we’ll head up north and give you the police service you’re paying for.

You’re absolutely right. It’s just a politics image game for them. There is no real concern for quality of life policing. All they care about are the number of homicides that make them look bad. They take heat from the community aldermen who in turn threaten their voter support. And since the overwhelming majority of shootings are dude on dude in the hood over some hood nonsense, that’s where the Dept sends the majority of its resources. The only reason they sent a handful of newbie ppos to 016 last year and the like was because the residents demanded a townhall meeting with the sup about this and the dept didn’t want the bad press.

016 just received more manpower this last year. Not experienced pos that spent time on the south and west sides that gained experience. No the sent the ones just getting off probation who haven't learned the job yet and never will basically coming out of the academy and going to 016

There’s not a district commander in the city who wouldn’t want 100 more bodies.
The only numbers they care about are the shootings and homicides. They'll keep sending POs where they happen. They don't care about the other numbers near as much which is why the district's with less shootings and homicides get less police. That has to change.
Well the Mayor and the aldermen's families are okay so there's no need for concern.

Just about all the manpower we received last year has retired. Give me the young officers who still want to do some work rather than the old disgruntled veterans transferring in who want to do nothing. Back up right now is the best its ever been but our number of officers and Sergeants is still way too low to see a real difference. My taxes have doubled in the last decade and we get nothing in return.

A highly decorated Chicago Police officer was stripped saturday after COPA reopened an investigation into a police involved shooting that had been ruled justified. No additional information or evidence had been introduced. COPA read the old investigation formed an OPINION that the shooting was unjustified. After receiving word that Kim Foxx was not going to bring charges against the officer involved COPA moved to have him stripped. The Superintendent countered that the shooting was justified and spoke against the stripping of the officer. With the formation of COPA the Superintendant no longer has final say and a member of the police board was brought in to be the tie breaker. The unknown board member sided with COPA so the officer has now been stripped and awaits a police board hearing that will determine his future.
We are not just under attack with no friends anylonger. CPD is facing a stacked deck of biblical proportions fueled by political aspirations designed to destroy any kind of due process for its officers. The game is on and we are the hunted. Expect more shenanigans to come!
