NYC Truck Attack
- A man in a rented truck drove onto a busy bicycle path near the World Trade Center memorial Tuesday, killing at least six people and injuring several others, police said. The driver was then shot by police after jumping out with what turned out to be two fake guns.
A police official said the attack was being investigated as a possible act of terrorism. The official was not authorized to discuss the investigation and spoke on condition of anonymity.
The attacker was taken into custody. His condition was not immediately disclosed.
It's a good thing that vehicles can't be used as weapons according to Rahm, Special Ed and the command staff of the CPD. Prayers for the dead and injured

So what's your point. The SRG group was totally useless in this case just like our SWAT would be. By the time they were notified the incident was over. It lasted a few minutes. They could have been a few blocks away and would not been able to prevent it or do anything. If there were 25,000 SRG the results would have been the same. Just remember it was a beat man that shot him almost immediately after the attack. The beat man is the first line of defense

NY city has a combined force of law enforcement totalling 34,000, they are in the subways, they blanket the city streets, they have special response forces, they are heavily armed and trained to respond to such incidents. Oh my God, I hope you never partner up with me. A fleeing felon you can not shoot. But a fleeing felon or anyone else for that fact who has a gun can be shot. This happened yesterday in our force mitigation training. An officer asked the instructor; how do I use force deescalation and force mitigation on an offender who has a shotgun? We have some stupid people on this job.

This using vehicles as weapons is scary. What happens when autonomous self driving vehicles become active in serious numbers?
The software people are putting great effort into development of self driving vehicles. But they've probably putting relatively little effort or thoughts into security. It would only be a matter of time before a terrorist hacker takes over a fleet of them and turns them into wheeled terminators.

I was in NYC a couple of years ago in the area of 43rd and Broadway. Cops everywhere and we loved seeing them. Great folks and very friendly, If something hits the fan, they are on it and lots of them.
