Due to the "overwhelming" interest in becoming an Acting FTO, the deadline for applying has been extended to 02 February.
Actually, we heard the number of interested people stopped somewhere around 25.
Rahm needs around 200 to train the alleged "1,000" being hired this year.

I ran into a recruit who was on his way home from the academy this evening who stopped by a local retailer who said they were told that they were going to be held over approx. 3 weeks or so beyond their reg. academy training due to the lack of FTO's in the districts.

I can’t believe 1 person would want to be an FTO in this extremely dangerous hostile police environment. COPA and activists will be gunning for any FTO that has a recruit that screws up. The FTO should be Lt pay. Otherwise it’s not worth it.

We all used to be acting ftos. worked good when partener on furlo but bad if had to split partners....we just rode together on each others jobs and ate lunch together...got paid more and extra time on books....bring it back

I hope the FTO canditates are reflective of the city's diverse population. The diverse incoming recruit classes demand a diverse FTO group.

Some are knocked out of the pool because they didn’t take the Sgt’s test. A wise man once told me to take all tests. I guess he was right. VRI is gone bye, bye....
1000???? You can't even find 100 decent candidates left in the pool to take from, unless you are talking about the guy that was a heroin user for years before getting clean. Nothing but the bottom of the barrel.

Appoint merit FTOs. Some people owe so much to the system that they would have to take it.

^Would you be happy to work 6 days on 2 days off? Give them a break, they deal with the bullshit and shitheads as much as PO's, whether in lock up or the desk.

That is true. Talked to my neighbors kid who is a recruit know and he said the same thing. Said they are actually doing it right now
He further stated the academy is packed right now. There are so many recruits that even the gym people and range instructors are having to take home rooms. I know no one wants to hear that but I think Rahm has to live up to the additional 1,000 officers and is loading up the academy.

Come be a FTO. The benefits are: You can be held liable for any errors in training, complaints to the brass about your style or language will get you a few days off, complaints to COPA can get you suspended. All that for a few extra bucks. Ah No Thanks

Hers an idea pay the FTOS one half hour per Ppo then you might see those numbers change and a D2BS pay raise and you just might be Able to train your recruits Rham. Sorry Detectives

Academy is trying to have two shifts. They did this a few years ago Now they can’t because they are having trouble getting instructors to work the afternoon shift.
