How Many Chances?

  • Last November, a deranged 26-year-old man, Devin Patrick Kelley, opened fire on worshipers inside a church in Sutherland, Texas, killing 26. High-casualty mass shootings are tragic in human terms but anomalous statistically, at least in terms of the portion of total U.S. homicides that they represent. The vast majority of murders, which take place disproportionately in America’s low-income and minority neighborhoods, don’t get nearly the same attention. The Texas church shooting does have an important point of commonality with the majority of American murders, however: its perpetrator had a troubling criminal record. The deincarceration movement, which would return thousands of convicts to American streets, presents a threat to public safety. Repeat offenders already commit a substantial portion of the nation’s violent crime—according to one study, 53 percent of killers have at least one prior felony conviction. They will be walking the streets in greater numbers if deincarceration advocates have their way.

Consider a few examples. In October 2017, Radee Prince shot and killed three people in Maryland. Prince, it turns out, had 42 prior arrests and 15 prior felony convictions. About a month earlier, a police officer in Yonkers was shot in the face by an 18-year-old assailant not unknown to police. He had recently been sentenced to probation and classified as a “youthful offender,” despite being caught with an illegal firearm, hundreds of rounds of ammunition, a machete, and brass knuckles. Earlier in 2017, Baltimore police named Cortez Wall, an 18-year-old murder suspect, “Public Enemy No. 1.” Wall had already been convicted of a gun charge, for which he was on probation. That didn’t stop a Maryland judge from releasing him on bail on a drug charge; he had allegedly murdered someone before his release, though police did not yet suspect him. Had bail been denied, Wall would have been in custody when he became the prime suspect in the deadly shooting.
The final example in the article is the murderer of Commander Bauer. The article continues with cold, hard facts that show recidivist felons commit the vast majority of crimes, including murder. And it also points out that "progressives" like the current city and county administrations are driving the crime rate solely through their asinine policies.

Some people don't deserve to walk the streets. Some don't deserve to see the sunshine. And some don't deserve to breathe the same air you and we do.

Not a cop but Richard Pryor had a chilling joke about all of this way back in the 80's. The joke starts out discussing him filming Stir Crazy, which part of it was filmed in a real prison. Before the movie shoot Pryor assumed that the system kept the brothers locked up and once inside he would hear the real stories and help some of the brothers out. The joke starts out by Pryor saying, thank god for penitentiaries. After filming the movie he had to rethink his previous comments. You get the real deal once on the inside, instead of turning their lives around, prisoners plan their next crimes, usually with new partners There are some people that cannot be helped. Keep them locked up. But today's politicians love criminals.

Habitual Offender laws need to be put in place Nationwide. 3 strikes is more than enough havoc wreaked on society by a single offender in a lifetime.

An entreprenaurial someone might find the historical example of Devil's Island to be a profitable and public service to consider.

To kill, with acknowledged or amply proven intent, devoid of any justifiable reason, seems a fitting low standard for placing said killer upon just such an island, to be comforted by others of the same ilk.

I suspect our illustrious, honest about the realities of life, President might well find this an interesting concept to consider.

Why, if our federal, let alone our state, taxes can be doled out, by the millions, to fund the studying of the comparative penis sizes of similar familied insects, this concept is well worth a few tax dollars to explore it's implementation possibilities.

Look what a disaster progressive juvenile justice reform enacted in Broward County Florida has created. Dubbed the "Broward County Solution" the goal was to lower arrests by not making arrests. Many misdemeanor crimes were reduced to school-related issues and arrests dropped. Perceived injustice by perpetrators of color was cited for the new policy achieving the new "racial and educational equity." The article implicates school officials, elected county officials, social justice agitators, a police chief and "reform" policies from a previous presidential administration. When you hear gubernatorial candidates in campaign ads tout social justice reform keep policies similar to the Broward County Solution in mind. How many chances? It starts at a younger age and "progressively" gets worse.

It's meant to drive the normal person to their knees and ask the politicos for mercy, protection via MORE LAWS that will not protect them and to further TAX the working class.

This is another reason why no sane person can support the gubernatorial candidacy of J. B. Pritzker. While pandering for votes, Pritzker is fond of telling black audiences that their community is unduly impacted by the politics of "mass incarceration." That is a false BLM slogan.
Overwhelmingly, those behind bars are felons, plain and simple.

Weapons units in Cook County Adult Probation are bring ordered by assistant chief Matt Sobieski, not to make arrest on any convicted felons sentenced to specify probation. Also these officer's are ordered, not to conducthouse searches. Which are allowed by State Law. How this liberal assistant Chief Sobieski is making a new policy for weapons officer's can only carry their own personal weapon only to and from work. This liberal Assistant Chief does not know under Federal Law (officer's safety act) these officer's are allowed to carry in any State. This Assistant Chief , WAS ALSO RESPONSIBLE FOR THE DISBANDING OF THE WEAPONS GANG UNIT. This UNIT along CPD gun units and FIB, make many arrests of CONVICTED GANG FELONS ON ADULT PROBATION WITH GUNS! Also solved homicides. This unit was awarded commendations by the FBI and Chicago.

I'm opposed to long prison sentences. However, recidivists don't deserve a prison sentence., Hang them, or firing squad, or guillotine, etc. Too much capital goes into the hole of incarceration, and yes that is a double entendre.

Is everyone losing directional parts of their minds, the FBI blow-it on the Florida shooting and a bunch of others. You want a deterrent, bring back the death penalty. I have a grandmother that's always in church praying for all us police and when she watched the news of the Florida killings, she made a comment that completely took the family by surprise. She said, "after he is tried and convected, hang him in a public square and leave him there for the young people to see." She told me, if they seem what will happen to them if they commit such a crime, they will think twice. Maybe she's right, but I'm already seeing bits and pieces of news, their feeling sorry for this son of a bitch, fuck that, the old lady is right hang the prick for all to see.

Citizens, raise your hands if you know who your alderman is. Raise your hands if you know who the commander of the district where you live is. Now, who is the judge that hears the cases of crimes committed in your neighborhood. It got quiet real quick. There is the problem, judges are not held accountable for the criminals that they repeatedly release back into society without paying for their actions.

Been retired for nearly two decades, but, willing to bet that gun court or its present day equivalent is the same joke Br. 26 ?, at 11th and State, was back in the day.

Passing all the new laws in the world will not work, until judges start sentencing these habitual criminals properly. New Judges, not new laws.

Vote NO on all judicial retentions.

Reasearchers can only use numbers provided by arrest or prosecution. Since most of the murders in Chicago go unsolved and the ones that are solved are most likely domestic related, you have to figure the real % of recidivist offenders is closer to 80-90%.

Chicago's decline and the rise of crime and violence is a direct result of left wing liberals taking control on this city and this county. Look at Kim Foxx as a prime example. Her prior career in the State's Attorney's Office before she was elected was completely unimpressive and unremarkable. She spent almost 100% of it in the juvenile bureau where she hid from doing any real work and gained zero experience about how to be a prosecutor. She was not liked or respected by any of her colleagues. Then enter Toni Preckwinkle who hires her because of her race and decides that Kim Foxx is Preckwinkle's solution to Anita Alvarez. Alvarez would never go along with Preckwinkle's warped vision and goal of dismantling the criminal justice system. But Preckwinkle knew Foxx would so she hired her and politically anointed her and all the other dems fell into line ousted the career prosecutor Alvarez and put Preckwinkle's puppet Foxx into office. Since then, Foxx has acted like a she is the public defender and not the State's Attorney. She has done exactly what Preckwinkle has instructed and criminals are empowered and police, prosecutors, citizens and victims in particular all suffer. Too many black and brown people in jail? Just refuse to prosecute crime and that will solve that problem. But pay no attention to the rise of a lawless society marked by crime and violence. Last week, Foxx had the audacity to show up at the funeral of Commander Paul Bauer. Thankfully, when she entered the church, the police ushers put her in the last row, last seat. Frankly, she shouldn't have even been there. It was an insult to the police and the family and anyone who believes in an society of law and order. But since they couldn't throw her out, at least they did the next best thing and put her in the worst seat in the house. That was more than she deserved.

Thats the title of this thread, I thought you were referring to How many chances regarding how many chances one has(candidate),to pass the power test to get on the department.

O.T. Here but you should see how much the department has lowered it's standards just to meet the mayors so called #'s to hire how many again 100 per month? If you fail the power test, don't worry we'll give you as many chances as you need to pass it.. true fact. Ask B.M or C.P. or R.L what a joke of a department this has become.... not to mention C.P. making mayor salary style $$$ with all that O.T. last year alone....just sayin
