Just in Time
- Starting Tuesday, South Side victims of violence and trauma no longer will have to journey so far from home to receive medical attention. University of Chicago Medicine will open its new Level I trauma program, marking the culmination of years of campaigning by many young community activists for high-level trauma care in the area.
But it’s a new beginning that raises its own questions.
Will the program, which is expected to serve 2,700 to 4,000 patients a year, be financially sustainable? How will it affect trauma care in other parts of the city? And what kind of a difference will it make in the community?
We're imagining it's going to lose millions, lighten the load on other trauma centers and for every decent soul it saves, it might end up saving another nine that don't exactly contribute to society.

Betcha they'll be on bypass most of the time.
Let's start the pool for the first time they are overloaded and put the facility on by-pass.
You gotta partner with the DOD and get some Federal
dollars in there. Excellent place to train Army medics,
trauma surgeons. Set up training programs to boost
the knowledge and experience of paramedics from
the 'burbs. You have to know how to market it.
How many multiple hundreds of MILLIONS
will this "enterprise" end up losing/soaking
the taxpayers for?
And Rahm the ever strutting, crowing and proudly
shitting bantam rooster, congratulated himself
for clawing medical insurance away from retirees
and widows.
"We're gonna stick in The Cops ear..."
Could a special fire EVER be made hot enough just for him?
"We don't understand why you Cops are always
so pissed-off about everything..."
Finally we Goldcoasters can get into Northwestern's ER in a reasonable amount of time and not have to interact with the riff raff.
Hospitals pool revenue from different locations.
Money should not be a problem. They charge
med students thru the nose to learn that stuff.
The hospitals have a monopoly on carnage.
Don't worry about the perps getting a second
lease on life. Lack of rehab kinda evens out
that equation.
The U of C is changing their school colors from Maroon to Coagulated Blood. Just think of all the drama and bad outcomes they've just self inflicted on their good name. That Hospital is going to get middled by the SJW's in short order, and their Board is going to be saying to themselves "Remind me again why the fuck we did this?" I would suggest however, an official frequent flyer program for the inevitable crowd of medical service abusers. The program would provide transportation to a clinic in Peoria or Springfield. I'm just say'n....
No better location for abundant practice opportunities of trauma injuries.
Hopefully, they will be providing ample PTSD services for their staff. And that would include those staffing the waiting rooms.......
And don't forget all the Aggravated Mombrigating that'll be going on in the E.R.'s and waiting rooms with, well you, the locals....
Hey, how about set up some of the MASH style hospitals in high crime neighborhoods.
Tents could be deployed anywhere.
Unfortunately it will keep some alive that we would better off if they were dead. Remember every democratic vote counts.
rham is just one part of the sanctuary crime policy.
the four goofs in county gubment have contributed greatly.
public safety be dammed in the peoples republic of crook county.
Gee, where will the "communerty" go when U of C, Northwestern AND Rush all go on bypass, which basically happens when they need a "break" from treating said groups dramas,er, I mean, traumas????
This financial shell-game is easy to figure out. They take the costs of those who don't pay and back load them into the costs of people who do. Kind of a socialist like thing.
Why do you think your insurance costs are so high?
There is no free lunch.
Christ Hospital and the Village of Oak Lawn, And the Oak Lawn PD thank you. Now the decent citizens might not have to wait so long in ER for all the GSW's that come into Christ along with all the family, including the cuzzins of the guy circling the drain crowding the waiting room and spilling outside into the neighborhood.
What is U.C.'s endowment these days? These communist indoctrination centers, aka "universities" hoard a lot of money. Let them use it for their hospital! The taxpayers are bled enough already.
Old retired area one homicide detective here. The question that should be asked is why did the University of Chicago close their emergency room years ago TO BEGIN WITH? Didn't they think that the local residence were worth it? Was the hospital's emergency room losing money for the university? WHO WAS THE PERSON RESPONSIBLE FOR CLOSING THE HOSPITAL? The old hospital WAS A VERY GOOD TRAUNA CENTER, will it be now? Is the present hospital a level one trauma center? How many life's were lost because of the original closing?
Wait - who’s paying for this?
Oh yeah, hard-working, taxing paying citizens can foot this bill too.
I hate democrats.
Finally, the good taxpayers of the south-southeast side have a trauma center to call their own. I can’t wakt to see the UofC campus, it’s goinf to be great. I just feel bad for the UofCPD... all the gang fights, dropped off shot shitheads, Greek tragedy reenactments in the lobby, complete with screaming, wailing, emotionally out of control Family that say, “whyyyyyyy God” at the top of their lungs while collapsing on the ground, then trying to fight anyone telling them to move. I’m not going to miss this job...at all
Hate to say it but more money down the "shitter" for some of the most productive members of society!
Instead of spending money for anticipated medical combat emergencies.....How about we spend money on prevention.......HIRING MORE POLICE OFFICERS AND PUTTING MORE POLICE CARS ON THE STREET!
We can find money for everything but protecting the property, liberty, and lives of the general "NEVER ENDING TAX PAYING" public!
The thing that amazes me is with all the degree's and levels of education that we have in government, we cant see the tree's because the forrest is in the way......IDIOTS!!!!!

This is why. People who have to pay for health care don't want to sit in an ER with a bunch of hood rats hooping and hollerin. They did this in Joliet by moving Silver Cross Hospital further East. Now St.Joe's Hospital gets all the gunshots, stabbings and baby mama drama. I wouldn't go to that hospital for an ear infection. Back on point, it's a brilliant financial move.
Fambly will feed upon those naive students. Pure comedy to follow.
They recently changed all the "Trauma" room labels to resuscitation rooms. Actually had them repaint and label the six T51-56 (trauma) rooms R51-56 (resuscitation). Not a joke the head of the trauma department did not want medical cases to stop using the rooms, but will make sure one is always available for a tramua patient.... truly they have no grasp on what's coming.
Sorry to see this open. The long ride eliminated a lot of trash.
Thank you University of Chicago. They're your problem now.
Oak Lawn Resident
It's gonna cost em millions of dollars a year to try to police that place.
That Hospital will be CLOSED, in five years due to the patients NOT paying their bills!
They’ll be on bypass daily or they’ll stabilized the victim and transport them by ambulance to the Stroger Hospital or Mount Sinai.
Does their Level One trauma include GSW’s after 2300 hrs?
Bet it doesn’t or won’t, so it’s back on the #29 or early GS birds can utilize the Jeffery Jump #14 bus north to Northwestern or back into the dark Chrysler with tints for a quick dump off at Mt. Sinus or St.Rogers.
Same for the Level 5 pissbum.
S’all good though, broke Illinois gubmint got the tab.
And Rahm will provide the additional amalance service.
If you work in 002, 003, 006, 007, or 009 or will otherwise be responding/doing follow ups it would behoove you to take a walk through the place. It's a shit-show of piss poor planning. Zero went into security concerns. More access points than one can count, waiting room is tiny and until the other day was completely exposed via glass windows (they now have stickers making it harder to see in), only one UCPD officer and three hospital security (hospital security are COMPLETELY unarmed except for a set of cuffs. No guns, TASERs or batons) on duty. And there have been zero training scenarios for high priority incidents. If you're responding to a hot call over there keep your head on a swivel.
Maybe it will be the first level 1 trauma center in the whole country that is only open 9 A.M. to 5 P.M. Debt will pile up at a much slower rate at least.
J.J.
Wasn't the Cook County Bullet and Firearm Tax supposed to cover Trauma Center expenses?

What are you trying to say? You want the hospital security guards to protect you. You are the police and are supposed to serve and protect
The staff and other innocent patients might need you to protect them if these guards are completely unarmed, they are depending on you

False, that’s where we (tax payers) come in...
And maybe now the residents of nearby suburbs of Chicago like Oak Lawn and Evergreen will get some relief from the non- stop Ambulances screaming thru the Villages 24/7, but probably not, because their politicians are too stupid to regulate them to find out how many of these goofball Ambulance Attendant crews just love to speed, and blow their sirens for bullshit, just to get somewhere in a hurry, while the Taxpaying Residents have to put up with their excessive noise every day, thanks to Politicians incompetence and laziness, drunken Do-Nothins.
