Retiree Kills Crime

  • A retired Chicago police officer shot and killed a 20-year-old man who tried to carjack him in the Bridgeport neighborhood Wednesday night, authorities said.

The retired officer was in a car in the 2900 block of South Shields Avenue about 7:20 p.m. when three males walked up and one of them pointed a gun at him and demanded the car, police said.

The retired officer shot the gunman in the upper body, police said.

The Cook County medical examiner’s office identified him as Lazarick West of the 3400 block of West Grenshaw Street.
Someone in the comment sections says there is a rumor that the lads were just in need of wheels to get back to the west side to visit a sick grandmother who was feeling poorly lately and bring her some Holy Water from a nearby church. We have our doubts.

In the meantime, nice shooting. A retiree, so no COPA assholes. Taxpayers should be in the clear, though for the right price, you can get a lawyer to file anything. And who knows how many other carjackings these "lads" might have been planning or been involved in? This might actually impact the carjacking rate an entire percentage point of two.

As someone on scene at time of shooting.
I must point out that this retired officer was the victim of a major crime.
He stated he took action to stop the crime and was visibly shaken up by it.

The last words I heard from him was "I am getting out of this f@ucked up city"

We all stood there and agreeded with him and said we would love to buy him a cold one when he is ready.

Stay safe boys and girls. Being off duty or retired means nothing. If your wheels are running you are a target.

That's about the dumbest thing I've ever read. You've got to be a liberal. This has nothing to do with the car and everything to do with someone pointing a gun at you and placing your life in danger. And I'd argue that the life of this piece of shit that's running around carjacking and robbing people at gun point isn't worth the peanuts and corn in my dog's shit. Good riddance to that scumbag. I can't even imagine how many future victims have now been spared from that piece of shit's reign of terror over the next 20 or 30 years.

In Illinois, if you have to use deadly force in a forceable felony incident, you are protected from Civil Action. Granted, if someone tries to sue you, it usually takes a hearing before a Judge and it's normally dismissed in short order. There is a three man team working around Midway, late at night they prey upon females walking alone. From reports, there's been about six such armed robbery's in the mentioned area. I'm also told the 8th dist. tach is not doing much with these robbery's because they are in another BOX. WTF

That pos that sticks a gun in peoples faces and takes their property under threat of death or great bodily harm is saying that your property is more valuable to him than your life.

Sooner or later he will kill someone for their property.

Save a life? Is this life worth saving? When a victim kills an offender there is a good chance he is saving some victims life.

Some people in this world need killing.

question: If the dead offender's family sues, does the retired officer get any help from any of the Police Unions(FOP etc.) Several months ago there was a discussion on the Web Site CPD Notifications regarding insurance that a retiree can carry in an event such as this. This insurance question is the 700 lb. elephant in the room. I have a rider policy that covers off duty shooting. The exception to the policy is that it will not cover any action while committing a crime. The city of Chicago is gone was we knew it. It would behoove any retiree to look into this. SSC you do a exceptional service by keeping everyone informed, maybe there can be a discussion on this topic?

They will go after the city because they have deep pockets, but it’s not going to be easy holding the city responsible for what a retired guy does 50 years after the city taught him how to shoot
So if a streets and sans truck driver retires and gets into an accident , the city will be sued because they taught him how to drive?

an aside: The ironic thing about this attempted car-jacking and shooting is a week ago or so I was showing my wife the Ten Part Video Series; 'Bloody Chicago', that's on YouTube, and how the Back Of The Yards (and Brighton Park) came in at #10 for the most violent 'hoods in Chicago.

When you hear of read stories like this it always gives one a good feeling and not much thereafter as it’s soon forgotten.
But when I heard this it really put a smile on my face.
God bless the retiree and glad they had the composure to put a small dent in the Cook County Chicago its only property carjacking free-for-all sport.

Practice, practice, practice.
Getting that heater out the pocket, waistband etc.
Be ready everywhere for the coming of the free range repeat offenders.

And this:
“An insured car is not worth someone's life. Just let them have the car and save a life.” (4/27/2018 02:52:00 AM)

If the tussle is over the car and not every situation can benefit the car owner, ok, but you’re talking the car owners life right?
But let’s agree that the feral armed assailant will not be back next week to rob and/or shoot someone else.
Not on the Gold Coast, not at Sox Park or The Englewoods.
There was no loss in that situation worth saving.
It’s unfortunate that the restorative justices of the County of Cook no longer holds the other accomplices for contributing to the dead guys death.

Maybe the only misfortune here is the bad ju-ju for the car - but that’s why there’s CarMax.

It's just a car, let him take it and save a life. That's the stupidest thing I've read on here in a long time.

By pointing a gun at the Officer and demanding his car, he was making a direct threat to comply or be shot.
The Officer made the best possible choice by putting the savage down permanently. He did civilized society
a great service. He eliminated another one of the animals running the streets who possess no self control or
sense of right and wrong. By ventilating the dumbass, he prevented any further reproduction by said dumbass.
He doesn't seem to be the type that would lovingly care for his spawn to ensure they followed the right path.

Well done, Officer.

4/27/2018 02:52:00 AM

Most cars are insured for the purpose of the owner's liability for property damage and / or injury or death of any passengers or bystanders. Unless you are carrying comprehensive coverage, the vehicle is not covered in the event of damage or loss due to theft, fire, flood or "Acts of God." Most people carry comprehensive coverage if they still have a car note, but don't bother once it's paid off.

As a long-time Bridgeport resident I really appreciate this. It's just too bad there weren't 3 bodies. Why weren't the other two charged with murder?!

just so you know. one of the "lads" that was caught ON SCENE with the lad that was shot was RWOC. CC states attorney decline charges.

what did you want to charge him with? Being in the vicinity of a crime is not a crime.

To the latter comment, you are not the police and you should do some research. He should be charged with First Degree Murder!

Have a nice day, Troll.

WTF

Retired and living in Florida, and for the person who asked why the retired guy is still here, check out crime in Tampa area. Same shit that goes on here and getting worse. Car jackings increasing plus you have to deal with all the old timers and their driving habits. I hear North Korea could be an upcoming destination !!

First, great job by the retiree.
Second, fuck those who say "just give it up!"
Third, I bought my country acreage 12 years before retiring, so yes, it can be done.
And, fourth, I understand those, who for one reason or another, have to stick around awhile.

Retired or active, always be ready to rock and roll. Stay safe and fetal.

I worked with this officer for many years. We all worked together in Tact. He was an outstanding Police Officer. We could have lost him just lost Paul when he was in 001. This has to stop. This has been happening since I was 16 years old in Englewood. It's all
turning into the same thing.

Retired

No. The life you save by engaging the offender may very well be your own. Perhaps you're not giving your keys to the offender fast enough, so he shoots you in the face, yet you had the opportunity to engage and you chose not to. You are also likely saving some unknown future victim who does not move fast enough for the the offender. This event shows the effectiveness of being prepared and aware of your surroundings.

If I'm off duty and have to cap one of these assholes, I just might get into the wind. A 15% clear-up rate is mighty tempting.

Did you notice Mayor Rahm and his 50 Aldermen are no where to be see or heard during all these shooting incidents. They run the City, they are responsible for the safety and well being of its citizens. Can you believe the media has not searched them out for comments or solutions. And what about all the movers and shakers in the city are they not appalled. Silence everywhere.

Fuck You. Just because a car is insured is meaningless, ya stupid asshole.

With the cost of cars today, that vehicle is likely THE MOST precious thing 'own'. Many people working years to get that 'special car'. And if it's gone, so is their dream. Not to mention the COSTS that innocent victim has to incur, like a Rental to start with, and a Down Payment for a new car -- Insurance reimbursement for a new car is a joke -- PLUS the money to replace any belongings in the now stolen car. You wanna pony the cash up for the victim, huh Cupcake!

I swear to God, you HAVE to be a Bicycle riding, tree-hugging, latte sipping, Soy-Boy.

Take note Sweetheart, My Stuff is Mine and nobody else's, I worked hard to get it all. Anyone who tries to take any of it... well... it'll be the last thing they ever do.

Before you jump on that policy with USCCA, below is a comparison between their policy and the NR policy. Big difference , compare and choose the one that suits your requirements. They appear similar but in reality are completely different when it comes to benefits and when they apply
