This needs to be pushed - and pushed HARD. The Department has effectively hamstrung the rank-and-file with so much oversight, that a cop isn't allowed to make any decision without having it judged, reviewed, re-judged, reviewed again, sent to a committee that dissects every single second, judges yet again, then looks to suspend, fire or jail the officer(s) involved for each and every violation.
Time to play hardball FOP. Demand that the Department draw up some sort of "How To Police" guidebook that will ensure each and every action taken by officers is within legal guidelines, city ordinances, Department Directives and some sort of "community standards" whatever the fuck those may be - as far as we can tell, they depends upon the weather, temperature and day of the weekm biot to mention color of the officer and offender.
Absent these guidelines, the FOP should instruct everyone that no police action will be taken for any situations until such time as guidance is provided. Better re-tool the Academy in an effort to retrain the entire Department. Get it done.

Do you really think it's the officer's who need "more" training. What about the sector of the public that, it appears, or they think, and the POS MSM backs, their every move as constitutional or justified! The officer's attorney should sue and subpoena COPA's 'experts' reports. With three reports, it's almost like they were shopping for one that agreed with their pre-determined judgment. And now hiding them. Go figure. The officer will win a big defamation suit.

About 25 years the FOP rallied and marched when Lech Walesa came to town. I think there were at least a thousand officers picketing across the street from the union leaders hotel. Very appropriate that someone who stood up to a tyrant was a focus of the protest against our own dictator. We need to march again. Maybe at the location of the new police academy. Maybe at one of Rahm's special events. Or the Obama library. We have a bigger voice than you know.

If you call for a supervisor on every single job, you're just documenting that you have no idea what you're doing and can't make a decision. And you won't have time to wait for one during an attack or an in-progress job.

This is all the FOP is going to do. As I previously posted there is some major infighting going on in the FOP. Kevin and the Deano leftovers against Murray and Preib. Kevin is soo worried over he contract he is afraid to do anything that he thinks will get tiny dancer upset. Murray and Preib want to get very aggressive but are being overruled by Kevin. Kevin is afraid of his shadow, Murray and Preib want a all out war. There have been major arguments between the parties. What sad is that the Deano left overs have Kevin's ear and is giving him very bad advise. Example: don't rock the boat in dealing with the mayor. One only has to go back to Deano passive actions against the mayor. The same people in leadership (oxymoron) today are the same people who were in leadership when Deano was president. They want nothing more than to see Kevin fail. There is a problem with how attorneys are assigned to cases. Questions are being asked on how certain attorneys are being assigned to cases. There also is a growing problem with some of the attorneys fee's being submitted to the FOP. There can be a major scandal if this comes out ESPECALLY NOW.

The only white shirts that are protected are the heavily clouted meritorious kind. And they don’t usually work the street.
Let me get this straight in my mind. You are trained to meet force with force to gain control of the situation. You are taught UOF guidelines in the academy. Then a gen order comes out that overrides your training. Now you are to disregard your academy training (and what you have been doing for years) and do what the gen order says. Then when you get into a split second ordeal you're supposed to forget academy training and revert to a hap hazardly worded gen order, all during a time when the situation can go sideways in literally the blink of an eye. Then you are "investigated" by persons that have no practical experience OTJ and better yet, have no knowledge how to conduct a proper investigation. Do I have this correct? If so, then I'm thinking CCW holders have more rights than POs. If anyone comes at me with a bat, I'll do my best to stop the threat with force. As far as I know the law says I'm entitled to protect myself and loved ones. Someone explain this to me. If this is correct, then I'm glad I never responded to the acceptance letter i got back in the seventies. One other thing. Sounds like POs need a "real" union. The family got paid-off from rahm using taxpayers money over 5 million dollars for the families when this fine officer,great USMC Marine who felt he was not going home if the savage crazed on drugs would of pounded his skull in! Every dispatched call, ISR or traffic stop could be your last. And I'm no even talking about the possibility of being hurt or killed; that has always existed. Now we don't even know the rules to the game. What we think is justified according to established law and UOF guidelines may in fact be overturned by a select group of citizens.
Inside spots have no stress, limited responsibility, and they're paid exactly the same. They're becoming the most coveted of all positions. And personally, I think my family would be even happier lol

This is all the FOP is going to do. As I previously posted there is some major infighting going on in the FOP. Kevin and the Deano leftovers against Murray and Preib. Kevin is soo worried over he contract he is afraid to do anything that he thinks will get tiny dancer upset. Murray and Preib want to get very aggressive but are being overruled by Kevin. Kevin is afraid of his shadow, Murray and Preib want a all out war. There have been major arguments between the parties. What sad is that the Deano left overs have Kevin's ear and is giving him very bad advise. Example: don't rock the boat in dealing with the mayor. One only has to go back to Deano passive actions against the mayor. The same people in leadership (oxymoron) today are the same people who were in leadership when Deano was president. They want nothing more than to see Kevin fail. There is a problem with how attorneys are assigned to cases. Questions are being asked on how certain attorneys are being assigned to cases. There also is a growing problem with some of the attorneys fee's being submitted to the FOP. There can be a major scandal if this comes out ESPECALLY NOW.

I was blessed to have been given that same offer of a spot inside when I had 10 years on the job. I took it and never looked back. Family on the job was happy for me, as was my immediate family. I parlayed that initial spot into two more and spent a total of 18 years off of the street with weekends off. I’ve been back in patrol, on the street, for the last 4 years. Turning 55 soon and bye-bye.
Never turn down a spot that involves zero contact with the public.

Try asking the force mitigation "instructors" about the proper use of force in the LeGrier incident. They absolutely refuse to discuss it and claim that ongoing litigation prevents them from commenting.
They're right about that. They are not lawyers. Even if they were they wouldn't be able to comment. Any comments they make might get into the wrong ears and hurt the City's or the officer's legal position.

You would have worked hard in some dangerous situations on rotating shifts with only two of every six weekends off, but OTOH, you missed out on thirty years of vaudeville and a pension. This is the problem with a lot of these asshole coppers on the job, stop kissing ass to get of early, doing whatever some of these moron white shirts tell you to bring in just to get off early. Well Sarge, you wanted to have those little chevrons so badly didn't you. Unfortunately you didn't see this coming. Well I agree, and will now call a sergeant to respond whenever a situation may arise when the likelihood of physical force may need to be employed. Don't like it!? Well that's just too damn bad. Time to earn your money asshat and get some skin in the game. If I'm going to be crucified later for the application of the proper use of force, you are going to be hoisted up right besides me as well.

That's cute, but unless you can explain over the air why you need a sergeant at your job, you won't see this one or any of the other ones I know. Requesting a sergeant doesn't mean you get one. You're not in charge of shit. You need a sergeant because you're afraid to do your job? Sorry, but you're on your own. Make a decision or find a new job that doesn't make you piss your pants and call for daddy. "I need a sergeant because I might need to use force." "I need a sergeant because this guy is being mean to me and not listening." "I need a sergeant because my diaper needs changing." Do your job and maybe you'll learn enough to be a sergeant someday.
