The days of waiting for the late edition to see how your stocks are doing ended when people could buy a $350 computer. I grew up in a two newspaper home - Sun-Times and Tribune. We continued receiving the Sun-Times daily until I moved out on my own. We were only receiving the Tribune on Sunday by then. Both papers were substantive and focused on unbiased real news. You could tell between the editorial/opinion pieces and the "news". I continued receiving the Sun-Times and began to notice it was getting thinner and thinner. The paper became more biased and politicized in a manner I didn't care for and I had to ask myself why I would pay money for this shadow of a once great paper. It was the end of an era for me.

Chicago Sun-Times columnist and editorial board member Neil Steinberg could face jail time if he is convicted of domestic battery charges related to an incident involving his wife last week.
Steinberg, 45, of Northbrook was arrested about 9:30 p.m. Wednesday in his home after his wife, Edie, called 911 and reported abuse, said Sgt. Michael Keady of the Northbrook Police Department. Steinberg spent the night in jail and posted bail Thursday.
Edie Steinberg had first tried to call emergency services on another telephone, but Neil Steinberg hit that phone out of her hand, causing minor injuries, Keady said.
She was able to call 911 on another phone, he said.
Steinberg was charged with one count of domestic battery and one count of interfering with the reporting of domestic battery. Both are misdemeanors and carry sentences of up to a year in jail, Keady said.
This was the first case of reported domestic battery at the Steinberg home on the 2000 block of Center Avenue, Keady said.
Edie Steinberg said Saturday that her husband was not at home and that she had no comment on the incident.
Neil Steinberg, who did not return messages left at his home and office, said he was "deeply humiliated" by the episode and will enter alcohol counseling Monday, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.
Sun-Times Editor John Barron was quoted as saying, "We hope for the best for Neil and his family."
An editor at the paper said no one at the Sun-Times had any additional comment.
Steinberg, who is the author of five books, has worked at the Sun-Times since 1987, according to a biography that accompanies his syndicated column. He and his wife have been married for 15 years and have two sons.

I was gonna say something similar but this poster beat me to it. There is a huge void in conservative reporting in Chicago that needs to be filled. If the Sun Times truly wants to avoid going under, they could switch sides and fill that void. But, I seriously doubt that these liberals would do such as thing, as liberalism is a mental disorder. -one of the partners in the recent purchase of the newspaper was the Chicago Federation of
Labor which was curious given the ST reporters and columnists are scabs. Moreover, the CFL
used funds that the FOP and other local unions contribute annually. If the paper tanks
that's a huge financial loss for the CFL and its contributing members;
-what will poor Eddie Burke do when he can't call Sneed to plant blind items meant to hurt
his foes and enemies? I guess ol' "14" will have to find some whore at the Trib to do his
dirty work.

The print media on the whole has been unable to adapt to the Internet in any way that works for them. Other outlets have been able to do so but newspapers just seem to not be able to make the model work for them. The other Internet sites are syphoning away their readership bit by bit and they seem powerless to do anything about it.
I don't see a subscription model working on the Internet unless you are an institution like the WSJ or NY Times.
A lot of newspapers have tried subscription models for their web sites and failed pretty miserably. A few are hanging in while not doing all that well at it.

Sun-Times seized to be a newspaper a long time ago. The public realized that once they got an agenda they are no different than that black newspaper that went belly up a few years ago. The blacks of Chicago realized that their agenda was anti white and they did not want any part of it either.

Tried to buy advertising once. They really made it difficult. Talked me out of the sale. Only have 200,000 readers in an area of 3 000,000. A lot of waste circulation. Can't justify it. That is the real problem. Advertising, not news bias is the problem.
The Sun-Times alienated their core readers years ago by never reporting the real news. They cater to a segment that diesn’t Buy newspapers. Hate to see your paper go, but if you’re rude to your customers, they’re not returning. Recent blatant example-the White officer with the billboard-name/record published vs. the two black Kneelers-no name-nothing.
What is wrong Scum Times, did the gravy train run out when Jug Ear's term in office came to an end? As much as me may disagree with more liberal leaning media, they are necessary in a democracy, even if they are wrong. If all opposing voices are silences you either have a dictatorship or communism. If the voices of decent go away, they won't be there when you need them.The thing to do is make valid honest cogent arguments against their views. Remember most people support us and know what is right.

The left would love a democracy, that is why they are pushing to abolish the Electoral College. Secondly, where did you get the notion that a liberal leaning media is necessary? Until relatively recently, there haven't been many media outlets that were right leaning, the left has had a monopoly in that area.
The media is supposed to present facts, who, what, when, where, how, and let us decide the why. A liberal or conservative media viewpoint should be kept to the editorial section. Just the facts.
People have given up on alphabet networks, and newspapers who report virtually in lock-step the left's agenda. Most people aren't stupid, and know when they are being fed a line of B.S. The truth will win eventually.

The economic cycles of boom and bust have very little to do with who is in office. Sanders is a quack, but Trump has had nothing to do with the meteoric rise of what is now running out of steam. DOW down 440 today. Should we stick that on Trump? Of course not. We simply had a massive bull run that started around 2010, after the Global Economy contracted at levels not seen since the Great Depression.
Dodd Frank, on the other hand, was a reckless policy that caused great economic harm to the economy. George Bush furthered the oncoming crisis by continuing to push to prop up the housing economy, which was after the Dot Com collapse.

The Sun Times would be out of business if they changed the shape of the paper I swear the only paper people on the buses and els read is the times and that’s because of the shape. Easier to read in cramped quarters

Boycott all local papers,all Tribune holdings and their advertisers and sponsors.
You simply cannot prevent the demise of newspapers in any format. The same goes for news magazines. When you do not have the best interests of your customers in mind and put out a piss poor product what do you expect? What am I talking about? That media has become nothing more than mouthpieces for political parties. Lynn Sweet for example is no journalist. She is a shill for the democratic party and when the Sun Times endorses politicians they simply perpetuate the one party grip on this state that will never change. The Chicago American was an afternoon paper published by the Tribune. When it went to tabloid size (i.e., like the Sun Times) it changed its name to the Chicago Today. I think this change happened in the late 60s and it ultimately folded in the mid 70s.
