The Slum Times, attempting to stay relevant, decides to call for reform of a previous reform they championed for years:
- Drug dealing that makes you afraid to wait in a bus shelter or catch a train to work.
Nine shootings in a month within two blocks of your home.
Worst of all, coming home to find strangers sitting on your porch or selling heroin in a hallway. Imagine how much scarier that scenario would be if you were a senior citizen.
West Side residents who packed City Council chambers this week told these stories, and others, to make a powerful case for Ald. Jason Ervin’s ordinance aimed at “prostitution-related loitering.”
Remember when the CPD was accused day after day after week after week after year of hassling the "community" over low level offenses? Part of that was the stealing of the NYPD's "Broken Windows" policing - small problems become big problems if left to fester, so enforce the little things.
Well, that was declared to be racist because.....to tell the truth, we don't know exactly. We're pretty sure minorities manage to live by the law on a regular basis. We do it. Lots of other people do it. But OEMC and the Department came up with a priority system for dispatching:

- Priority 0 - officer/firefighter/paramedic assist
- Priority 1 - shootings, battery, felonies involving great bodily harm
- Priority 2 - misdemeanor type stuff, property crimes
- Priority 3 - narcotics sales, prostitution, ordinance complaints, etc
- Priority 4 - administrative functions
See those prostitution calls? Low priority. As in, the police get there when they get there. We didn't ask for this system, but by golly, we'll adhere to it as if it came from the Burning Bush. Same with the narcotics calls. The bar to leap over in order to get PC is so high as to be insurmountable to the beat cop. And even if you get near it, the judges at 26th Street are throwing out anything under a certain weight. The "community" could do more about it, but they're apathetic far too often, involved too often, or occasionally scared.
Sorry if they're scared, but there are ways around that, too. And one involves becoming responsible members of a law abiding society, and not abetting the ne'er-do-wells....like Ervin and his misguided policies.

O.T. Training Academy Disarms Officers
I took Force Mitigation at the academy. The arrogant officers created their own policy- you must turn in your weapon and lock it in their locker. Only they have the key and they keep the key. But it is my gun. What the fuck kind of policy is that? Then to add insult to injury, they made us stand outside and then we had to pat each other down to make sure we had no weapons on us.
We are officers of the law. Disarming us is plain stupid. What if an active shooter shows up? Duh, I guess the training instructors didn't think of that! What a joke.

Communities, I'm sorry to say, often deserve whatever they tolerate. You want to fix things? You want to feel safe? Make the call. Speak to a cop. Make a report. Don't tolerate anything. This is how you fix things. Call your alderman, call city hall or better yet write the Mayor and copy your alderman and the media. Shine a light on the problem. Maybe the SJWs need to step up and contribute for once instead of bitching and moaning about stupid shit. How about go out and organize a neighborhood cleanup?
I read about a place that's hiring ex-offenders. This helps too. We all need a place to live, food to eat and clothing on our backs. We all need hope. Jobs provide that security. When all you have is poverty, hopelessness, hunger , violence and drugs, don't be surprised by the results of all that. We pay enough in taxes that these problems are not insurmountable, but it does take effort on the part of every citizen. It has to start in the home. Raise your kids to be respectful. Instill in them a good work ethic and love for education. Be a responsible parent. Don't tolerate crap from your kids. Doesn't mean you have to beat the crap out of them just let them know they can't get away with stuff. There are probably a couple generations that are lost but the next few can be a deciding factor.

If cops would ONLY act on the actual specific Complaint of a flesh and blood actual harm demonstrated person, based on a warrant that would then FORCE PROSECUTION of those arrested, then police would gain a MUCH better reputation.
That takes removing the wicked bullshit corruption called prosecutorial discretion.
This is the stand alone thing that is hanging good police out to dry and to catch blame rather than politicians owning their own garbage.

I was once told that Police are not the problem because they have captured all the criminals already, but that it is the lawyers in the courts who keep letting them back out onto the streets to commit more crimes. This is in fact TRUE!

So the F.O.P. can't legally call for job actions, I understand that but there has to be some sort of entity that could educate and coordinate our frustration and collective unity. Until we are given a voice to protect each other and the citizens without fear of unwarranted reprisals we need to radically fight back.

I took Force Mitigation at the academy. The arrogant officers created their own policy- you must turn in your weapon and lock it in their locker. Only they have the key and they keep the key. But it is my gun. What the fuck kind of policy is that? Then to add insult to injury, they made us stand outside and then we had to pat each other down to make sure we had no weapons on us.
We are officers of the law. Disarming us is plain stupid. What if an active shooter shows up? Duh, I guess the training instructors didn't think of that! What a joke.

Synopsis: Circa 1730 hours, on duty female UCO carjacked at gunpoint, vehicle stolen. Offender (s) crashed vehicle nearby. A second victim resists being carjacked at that point and shot in arm. Offender(s) go on to carjack a third victim successfully. At some point a second person is shot. Offender flees on foot to nearby high rise residential building and is arrested with a handgun recovered. Best part: this is downtown.

A whole 6 LTs are getting promoted according to the 14th district rumor mill today. Also word that 50 sgts and 100 detectives. Classes are all getting made and starting May 21st. Allegedly this is from a command staff meeting today. The 14th district Dollie upstairs should be happy since she’s already gloating how she’s gonna more than likely get a merit spot.

I sure as hell don't wanna be running scenarios with meathead coppers like you .. you'd be the type to flip out and pull ur loaded gun on someone. It's a training safety issue. You're probably the same guy who will ask a million questions and "challenge" the instructors,making class that much longer. Dude...free advice. Chill out, go to the class, shut the fuck up, pick up a few tips or ignore it altogether ... don't be a spaz

Securing and storing of officers' weapons (as well as performing pat-downs) is standard protocol for reality based force-on-force LE training. Your comment reveals two things: 1) the only training you have received up to this point is that which you got as a recruit in the Academy, or possibly the minimal in-service training provided by the Dept. 2)you are unaware of the number of officers killed by other officers during training ("I THOUGHT the gun was unloaded!").

She doesn’t have to say it, it’s been proven time and time again. That’s how you get merit promotions And if she doesn’t get it this time, she will have time to do something more merit worthy in the office upstairs prior to having the merit nominations submitted.

because bad things have happened in similar training situations in the past. it is a simple safety issue. people do all kinds of crazy things in training situations. The last thing you want is someone pulling out a real gun in a training situation.

Merit packet in, it's a lock! Everyday I walk the halls of a packed academy, through a gauntlet of recruits who admonish me with the greeting of the hour. Good morning SIR, good afternoon SIR. All in preparation for my upcoming promotion.
wow, been retired for at least 5 years, but just seen that cato got made cmdr in 015. that is scary.
