Officers who do more engagement than what is absolutely required have been threatened by HQ that they’ll find themselves on a list of “troublemakers.” Thousands have, or will soon, head for the exits, telling all within earshot to avoid police work as a career.

Go out to the far burbs of Rockford and Ogle County, they are still locking people up for dime bags of weed and it doesn't get thrown out in court either.
The liberal power brokers want the police to be nothing more than social workers in today's communities. If you perform anything more than this, you are putting your career and freedom in jeopardy. I retired back in 2011 and never imagined that the police profession would deteriorate to this degree. I truly feel sorry for the current police officers and think about them every day.

This epidemic is happening in county jails too. Aggressive correctional officers are labeled as troublemakers by administration and are harassed and bullied for doing their job. COs are threatened to not upset murderers, rapists, child molesters by yelling orders of LOCK THE FUCK DOWN, SHUT THE FUCK UP,etc. Instead, COs must say PLEASE.

No it’s not illegal. They’re not forcing them, they’re giving them an option. The option is if they want to be considered for assignment to 018 then they actually have to do some police work other than drive around aimlessly.
My nephew had his last day Friday 1 June after over 6 years otj. Said if he didn't get out now he would probably get locked in for a long haul of misery. He doesn't even have another job but I had to agree with him, get out now. He's early thirties and single so it's a bit easier but he really thought at the start it was a great profession. Time to move on.

Illinois pensions are ridiculously high, it’s legal theft! No one deserves 75k a year for sitting on their ass. When the eye opening news hits there will be a revolution, and rightfully so. It can’t continue forever. Average SS check is around 800/month while pension checks come in north of 5k... Tax payers get fucked!
Cap the gold braid pensions too, as they pull over 120k/year from the patrolmen’s fund.

If it is engineered, the goal would seem to be to make local law enforcement so ineffective that the citizens would be begging for something new. Something that works.

In my small flyover town, the big law enforcement news this summer is that the police dog has gotten a Facebook page of his own (and has an overwhelming amount of likes already). And the cops are randomly handing out "tickets" to children caught obeying rules like wearing helmets when biking. Tickets are good for a free ice cream at the local mom and pop ice cream stand, donated by mom and pop.
It doesn't have to be like Chicago, and in many small, nice, quiet places in America, is still isn't.
If you get fed up and decide to leave, we'd love to have you as our new neighbor.

Some tips from someone with 20 years on....
Get your conceal and carry license...and carry...and shoot it you are justified in doing so
Don’t leave anything in your car...nothing. The predators that roam the streets will have no problem causing hundreds of dollars in damage to steal the small amount of change in your cup holder.
Invest in a door club and use it when you’re home
Don’t keep anything in your garage that cannot be replaced for a couple of hundred dollars
If you have security cameras, mont them as close to face level as possible. Too many are mounted overhead and although they may capture the incident, they are useless without a clear shot of the offenders face
Buy a barking dog
Say away from the red line and division street year round, and the lakefront/downtown area during the summer
Finally, hope that you are one of the thousands of zebras that are lost in the pack and get away instead of the one captured and eaten by the lion

You guys are idiots about the "stay fetal" movement. Who the hell is going to protect our neighborhoods if you "stay fetal"? There's other ways to lock up shit heads without getting jammed up. Signed complaints? Traffic? I do plenty of felony revokes and agg duis. Yes, People get time for felony revoke convictions and agg duis. I had many shitheads get 18-24+ months for felony revokes/add duis. You get more times behind bars with traffic and less chances of getting jammed up. Oh yeah, if the car takes off don't chase....pretty simple. And impounding cars does help(less drive bys and most of them can't afford the fees)
Count correctional officers have to ask inmates and beg them to not be grieved. Administration has told inmates they will get toys and stuff for each officer they grieve and sue. Administration loves screwing good officers! So sad. God bless you CPD officers

I can't wait to leave county corrections. I am going to do something different and with substance. Administration lumps all COs in the same bag and values inmates more. Inmates are given credibility while COs are given scrutiny. Administration does not have COs best interest at heart and thrive chaos amongst the ranks. I am thinking about becoming a janitor.
