Once Again....
Dancing around the obvious - did anyone call Eric Holder?
- As the number of jobs downtown rapidly increased in recent years, the number of people with those jobs who also live in Chicago’s vulnerable, African-American communities declined, a new study shows.
It means that even as more residents obtained well-paying downtown jobs, fewer of those workers were living in communities where their salaries could have benefited neighborhoods that are hurting economically, the study’s authors said. Some long-struggling communities like Englewood, West Englewood and Auburn Gresham haven’t benefited from Chicago’s downtown jobs boom, the study found.
“This speaks to the cost of segregation,” said Alden Loury, director of research and evaluation for the Metropolitan Planning Council and one of the lead authors of the study. “It’s not that nobody who lives on the South or West Sides works downtown. It means that as the number of jobs have grown, these neighborhoods just haven’t benefited. The basic question for us was: While there was dramatic growth and economic development downtown, what was participation for communities that have long struggled look like?”
- Downtown Chicago has experienced significant job growth since 2010, but a new analysis shows the number of residents from majority-black Chicago communities who work in the city center has decreased.
The new analysis, produced by the Metropolitan Planning Council, found that the Loop, the Near North Side and the Near West Side added 65,000 new jobs between the start of 2010 and the end of 2015, with the number of jobs in those three areas totaling 715,000 as of 2015.
Yet the number of those jobs held by residents who live in majority-black communities on the South and West sides dropped. During the five-year period, the number of employees working downtown who were living in those communities shrunk by nearly 1,500.
Residents of these communities made up only 10.6 percent of the workforce downtown at the end of 2015, the analysis also showed.
Gee, who was president during this decline in community jobs? 2015....hopefully it wasn't anyone from here. That'd be embarrassing to have a president come from Chicago, Illinois and have the entire city and state end up even worse off than when he started.
And these well paying jobs - did they require an actual diploma or GED? Did the City Colleges anticipate this emerging job market and push an educational agenda that would have benefited the economically depressed communities neglected by the then-president's administration?
As Special Ed is fond of saying, we have more questions than answers.

More excuses and no action on getting their act together and moving forward as a “communerty” typical.
Wouldn’t someone from these poor, violent communities who actually got a good education and a good job also move the hell away from an area that resembles a war zone? So many more questions than answers indeed.
Maybe they moved out of those neighborhoods after getting those jobs.
I'm pretty sure if someone wanted a job, they would be required to have sort of skills or qualifications that relate to said job and of course they would actually have to look for and apply for said job.
If given said job, that person would have to report to that job when they are scheduled to work. While at the job, they would have to preform the tasks that said job requires, everyday and hour they are receiving pay for said job.
Who the hell needs a job when you have section 8 subsidized rent, a link card that magically feeds you, a free medical card, money to clothe the children and cash to support the family. Do a little side hustle money and you are working class without much work! Ain't this a wonderful country! Vote for a few of those socialist democrats and soon enough, you'll get a guaranteed income! Chicago can't fund the damn pensions and these idiots are toying with a monthly stipend for free loaders like they have in Stockton, CA.
You think all these new condo buildings downtown are to attract people from depressed areas around Chicago? The days of mom and pop stores is ending downtown. Corporations now attract talent nation wide and choose only the finest applicants.
Get a decent job, and the first thing you should do is move out of Thug Central.
Think of your family. Think of their safety. Think of your safety.
Think of the safety of all those shiny toys that your juob allows you to afford! /s
How many were living in the Southside and after they got a decent job, they moved to a safer neighborhood?
Once again, the facts are being twisted to support the pre-determined theory.
Here's a thought. Once someone gets one of those 'well-paying' downtown jobs, they MOVE OUT OF THE GHETTO.
They don't want their new car stolen, their kids attending violent, underperforming schools, or their spouse attacked in front of their home. They want OUT!
Most downtown jobs require an education. Those buildings are full of professionals with skills. The residents of the mentioned neighborhoods don't meet the qualifications.
had to read it twice. is this the new angle of systemic racism? nice try.
who wants to live in a shithole. or is it a way to give back to the community like your shiny car or the possessions in your home?
Here's an idea conduct a natiinwide survey searching for residents of all colors whi lived in these neighborhoods. Ask why did you leave. Answer got a better job, better future and opportunity to change my personal story. Also checked how many people have been killed in these neighborhoods, tally up the facts and theres your answer.

That question was never asked, nor will it ever be asked.
Conflicts with the agendas.
They should’ve paid me the money they used to create this so called study. It’s obvious that whoever researched this have never step foot in the south and west sides, if they did they could have seen how the circus and zoo interact with each other first hand. Idiots

Alas, another reason why ed is upset with SCC, unauthorized use of scripted quotes provided to the media...
Those well paying jobs require that folks show up everyday and have the skill and educational experience to actually do the job. The few in the community that fit those requirements and got those jobs promptly moved out of the communities in question for a better lifestyle. Not hard to understand that what's left are those with no motivation or skill sets that fit any job situation. Real simple solution is to get educated and motivated but somehow that advise is seen as something that is not desirable, or in fact ridiculed in the community. What you trying to do become an Uncle Tom?
Don't know how much the study cost but I would have done it for free in 10 minutes. The equation is as simple and old as time. Get more money move into better neighborhood. The other side of that equation is troubled neighborhoods all over city are losing population. Fact. There please call me next time will save you a lot of money.
If you think Barack cared about his people on any other day than election day, you can...I
Kees me you fool!!!!
I don't know how that "I" got there. Conspiracy perhaps?
Now, kees me you fool!!!!
The jobs in the loop are not for uneducated (read: poor) and they haven’t been in my lifetime. Degrees, adavanced degrees, and intelligence are required to do these jobs. Are you saying people living in impoverished areas aren’t intelligent? Yes, that’s exactly what I’m saying. That’s why they live there.
Fop you watching this? What's this have to do with us you ask? The economy is doing great! Get us our raise we deserve and make up for those years of one percent! Like arbortraitor Benn stated he screwed us because of the economy (Benn that is) and in his decision states we can go back and get those raises when economy is good!
Those darn police keeping people from these communities from coming downtown to work
Businesses require one thing. Can your work help them make money. Racism isn’t involved. Anybody who can help them make a profit is welcomed. What’s the real problem?
Those jobs require a real education from a real school and no criminal background of violent crimes. It's not racism, it's natural selection.
Almost all of those good jobs downtown require a good education which is not going to be obtained in a Chicago public school. If the community wants things to change for the better then they should focus their attention at the waste of time and talent taking place at their local school and at the CPS overall.
Obumma did shit for the black community, yet these fuckin idiots think he is God. Grow up and face reality
In the late 1980's, when driving through the Humboldt Park neighborhood where my late mother grew up now over 100 years ago when it was Scandinavian, she was very quiet and then said, "no one would live here unless they had to." Ditto sentiment for those neighborhoods that Metropolitan Planning describes. When residents don't have to live there anymore, they're no longer residents. Adios!
It’s time to declare BS on most of these so called “studies” that are pushing a political agenda. The studies’ author is usually being paid by a special interest group, and I include the media as a special interest group. The author of the study will take a selected grouping of data points to make the predetermined conclusion. These methods of political manipulation along with political polling are taught to the political hacks who carry out the marketing of the political flavor of the day. Two suggestions: Never believe a “study” on face value and never trust or believe a political hack, I believe political hacks do not have a conscience.
Retired CPD say's, "Just give it up. Do the absolute minimal, check off, and go home without looking back."
Who is going to come up with the $500.00 a month the city wants to give to the underserved population in the city?
When the corrupt Chicago politicians offer multinational corporations tax breaks to "MOVE" jobs to Chicago from the suburbs this is not "ADDING" new jobs nor is it "job creation" it is the "MOVING" old jobs... period.
This is ignored however in the government BLS reports on unemployment.
Or may be it is because the moment a person secures a job that allows him to afford moving out of a shithole he does?
With all that information, there has to be a way of saying downtown is racist and start marching. Where’s jesse and phulger.
Hey I got an idea. Since election time is right around the corner how about pitching the universal basic income for Chicago!! That should get the same ol' assholes re-elected.
Right after the election we can say we tried that and forget about it until next election.. lmao.
Let's examine the CPS high school graduation rate is dismal, the kids are not going to kollege! Hmm but rahm is spending billions on building new schools, after closing over 54 schools, spending taxpayers money like it is not his own money! How is that CPS sexual assault scandal going, notice how quickly the media is maintaining silence as the dictators have told them "no more about the children!" No 1 fired from CPS top echelon of clout and disorder, wow incredible the things they get away with "what about the children?"
Why are they not calling the feds in,take this federal, how about a "consent decree" for CPS, to keep your hands off of our children mayor? How much does the teachers union contribute to the democratic campaigns here? What is the cost of the "children" being touched?
C'mon.
If you are a barber, you probably will stay in the hood
and not work downtown.
My company is moving from the Avondale neighborhood to 350 Orleans to save on property taxes. But first we had to move a bunch of people to Las Vegas to make room, as the new offices don't have space.
As far as i know, they didn't use home addresses to decide who gets to move to the new offices.
It needs to be pointed out that those vulnerable communities' participation in non-traditional jobs has actually flourished downtown - burglary jobs, robbery jobs, carjacking jobs, shoplifting jobs, assault and battery jobs, package theft jobs, sexual assault jobs, and racial harassment jobs.
First and foremost, an individual has to TRY to get a job. I know of many jobs that will take anyone to fill a spot and give someone an opportunity. Heck, the company I am employed, literally gives you a brand new truck on the second day of employment to accomplish meeting your daily tasks and in mitigating an individuals' responsibility of Actually showing up. This is hogwash, further fueling a despondent community that has had billions of dollars fed into its streamline and abused. And now there is suggestion of collecting $500 cash for just being in these communities. Garbage. Get off your ass and go get something. The cycle of poverty CAN be broken, yet it must be solved by proactive responses within the community - like accountability, like trying to get something better.
Did they also factor in the number af black Chicagoans that have fled this city because of higher taxes and violence in those communities?
It’s well documented that Chicago has one of the highest number of residents bailing out of this city.
Gee, with all that untapped unemployed talent out there...CPA's, chemists, physicists, lawyers, actuaries, etc..it's a dirty shame.
Unless they make it a law that you must graduate high school it will never change. In the city I believe there are students who actually drop out of grade school. At the same time the level of academic achievement by some high school graduates is below "ANY" standard, and not sufficient for gainful employment and advancement. There was an article last year on University of Chicago graduates and the percentage was horrendous in a 5 or 6 year attendance range! The problem is the standards have dropped to make the minorities happy but you can't fool the employers with these BS diploma's. The job applicants are un-hirable!!!!!!!
There's only one way to point that finger and it is the student and their family! Teachers are not religious figures and therefore cannot perform miracles turning water into wine!!!
Well, if those people with those downtown jobs did start moving into those impovrished neighborhoods and benefitting them, then wouldn't they then start complaining about gentrification?
Fakers message today. Most say they don't want to commute. An excuse for everything.
Well, well, well.
Here an opportunity for Amazon HQ2 to put some skins in the game.
Zeero taxes, free land and taxpayer infrastructure upgrades to build that centre in the jhetto.
Give them 5 years or so before they run out of town out due tp increased surrounding violence, internal loss/thefts and a workforce of chronic no-shows.
It’s all a write-off.
How many abandoned factories are out there still standing and not yet leveled and rebuilt as affordable housing or shithole strip malls?
Last week or so, Rahm and a few lesser examples of elected and civic leaders went over all the way to China (CRRC Sifang America, FYI- CRRC Sifang America has offices downtown and in Oakbrook.) to appeal to the rail car builder that a make believe, yet to be imposed tariff increase (some already exist) would put a kibosh on an assembly plant to build a few hundred passenger CTA rail cars and that could possibly create 200 (non guaranteed) commurnity jobs, the same jobs that were lost decades ago to China and the job killing global partnerships of the Democrats.
What few people know is that U.S. Steel in Granite City that just restarted plant operations few months ago and boasts 500 new and replaced jobs due to the POTUS willingness to impose import tariffs of China steel monopolies.
Just a start to bring USA steel production back.
Rahm doesn’t want that or those jobs.
China intends to use their imported steel products to build China CTA rail cars, entrench H1B visa personnel, to Chicago and Rahm is just fine with that.
Maybe he, like Shortshanks went to China just ulterior reasons such as money hiding, insider dealing and of course investment opportunities beyond the reach of the IRS.
The whole Democrat idea of jobs is create them, displace the slackers so they can collect entitlements for having learning disabilities, bring in foreigners as replacements to fund the entitled.
Not everyone want a job, just a stepping stone to a guaranteed income in addition to the entitlements.
The problem is today is SELF segregation.
They do it on racial lines.
They do it on WORK lines also.
They "struggle" to remain victims so they can demand more freeeeee stuff.
Cut off the welfare and you will see just how many people are willing to 1) Work, 2) move, 3) move to where they can find work.
I am so sick of seeing the "poor" people weigh 400 pounds and use Link Cards to grab up all the stuff the grocery store that my family can't afford to BUY with our own money EARNED! And then they complain too?
Enough is enough. It is time for change we can all believe in.
How about a guest worker program, from Chicago, New York, Atlanta, Baltimore, Philly, ETC, instead of from Other COUNTRIES?
Plenty of other jobs available.... they need truckers for one. The free shit army has so few deserters 🤨 that a big problem
New name for the Scum Times:. The SEIU Times. They own it after all.
Let’s not forget the Chicago high schools that are pumping out phony diplomas for kids who rarely show up to class, don’t do the work if they do show up, and can’t read, write or speak the King’s English. Whose fault is that Rahminator? Probably Trump’s right?
Remember 37 alderscum have signed on with Pawars gift of 500 a month for the lazy.
The community wants free money for no work. End of story. And Rahm will give it to them in exchange for votes.
Rahm passed out diplomas to the CPs dredges as soon as he got elected. He wanted to run for pres or be vp. So he needed that grad rate to go up. Now they are unqualified for a job or if the go to college they fail. Vallas is going to point that out.
"Unless they make it a law that you must graduate high school it will never change. In the city I believe there are students who actually drop out of grade school..."
When they turn 18 they can drop out of grammer school.
Don’t want to commute, bwhahahahaha.
Maybe Boeing and IBM can open branch offices in Englwood and Garfield Park.
You know the best part about Phake Phather’s ministry, it’s how he fleeces his flock out of what little money they have.
