P.O.W.E.R. Test Returns
It used to be you had to pass the POWER test to get into the Academy, then pass it four other times during the training, including to graduate.
That rule was suspended and a whole bunch of classes only had to pass the entry POWER test.
Now the test is back multiple times.
Multiple comments and more than a few e-mails claim this is related to a certain high-ranking member's son finally graduating and not having to strain himself.
Earned, not given, unless you're related to someone.

Great, now bring back flag every day to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
Ed’s kid probably.
It doesn't matter. Nothing matters anymore. Policing is done.
More lowering of standards. The public suffers.
Wrong or furthermore Bullshit. 1st Power Test is still in place as normal. You can take the test at a satellite site and present a "Power Card" that you passed the test which moves you forward in the hiring process. 2nd Power Test right before entry into the academy is still in place but you cannot present a "Power Card" for that one. You have to take the test under the supervision of academy staff.
We had to complete it once to get in and then 3 more times after that. They told us it was mandated by the State.
Power test should mimic the fitness test to get into FLETC. I did 3 years with a burb... 3 years with CPD prior to moving to federal law enforcement. Everywhere is a shit show guys... do something with computers or finance.
It is the Chicago Way. Political patronage is everything. Either you are a gear in the political machine, or you are nothing.
Yes it was THE BOSS’ son who could not pass the power test.
It’s over. Good luck to the poor suckers coming on. I have 7 more years and I’m done. The job went to shit. Thanks to Special Ed.
Some of the pictures I have seen recently of police command staff make it hard to believe that a lot of them were "EVER" able to pass the power test!
It's all bullshit.
The sooner you accept it the smoother your ride will be.
CPD, earned, not given.
Lmfao!
I’m in my mid fourties and can pass the power test tomorrow. How can you not be in your 20’s and 30’s, just entering the police academy knowing you need to pass the power test, and you can’t!? Seriously, it’s not that demanding.
Does anyone have a link showing what a passing score is for weight/gender? I found a description of this test online, but I'm curious if I can pass it.
They just set themselves up for a class action lawsuit from everyone who failed while in the academy?
Eye-Oh-Dee
Special ed kid didn't take gym at all fuck that anyone who they fail get a Attorney you will hit the lotto

What's bullshit is your ability to read. No one said you don't have to take the power test to get into the academy. They're saying Eddie's kid couldn't pass to GRADUATE from the academy, so they decided to get rid of that requirement until he graduated. Now it's back. Sounds like you "work" at the academy, and you're most likely a NOBLE member of the academy staff. Keep pushing morons, criminals, and failures through the academy, and watch the department and city get worse every day. Some of these PPOs showing up in the districts make me wonder if there are ANY standards or tests anymore. We get some good officers too, but some of these people should be under a psychiatrist's care and supervision, and others would shock the hell out of me if they showed me a high school diploma with their name on it. Clueless, entitled, brain-dead, whiners, with no concept of how to do even the simplest of things required for this job. It all starts at the academy, and there are no standards there. The "everyone gets a trophy" mindset shouldn't apply when the "trophy" is a badge and a gun.

If you can't find the info online, where even the most basic search would show what you're looking for, you should probably stick to flipping burgers. Here's a hint so you can do your own research: try Google.
The P.O.W.E.R. test was suspended several years ago. Nothing in the ILETSB or the CPD academy rules state that failing to pass the P.O.W.E.R. test has anything to do with passing the academy, termination, qualifying for the state exam. A few bitchy millenial recruits are upset that the P.O.W.E.R. test was reinstated, and began crying and spreading rumors about why. THIS POST IS FALSE NARRATIVE BASED ON CRYBABY RUMOR MONGERING!
Been retired 8yrs. I learned early in my career not yo get involved in bullshit. They want to riot, protest, march, burn the neighborhoods, loot let them. The mob can set fire to a Walgreens while looting same but the only story on the news is the copper bouncing his stick off the arsonist's head. A good example is last week an 82 yr old man was shot while walking his dog. No protesting and very little news coverage as the 82yr old man lies in critical condition. The shithead that is the subject of of the current demonstrations I'm sure was a pillar of the south shore community? Maybe Jesse or phaker can verified. Crime lab should run ballistics see if his gun was used in any shootings.

That bs has been going on forever.
I recall a certain retired commanders kid, big kid, really big, could fill a doorway. He had trouble with the run so a certain (very nice Sgt S.S.) would have the kid stay, for weeks, after everyone else had gone have the kid run around the academy. Well, it became clear that there was no way the kid was ever gonna pass the run, so the good Sgt told the gym staff that the kid passed the run. The gym staff didn't want to take the Sgts. word but the Deputy approved and the kid passed.
The POWER test is:
1) take POWER test once all your background invest if finished and you are ready to enter academy.
2) if it has been longer than 45 days since your POWER test, (you've been waiting to get in academy) you must take it again (State rules)
3) Take POWER test your first week in academy.
4) Take POWER test 2 more times while in training at academy.
5) Take a final POWER test prior to graduation.
The only State requirements are #1 & #2. All the rest are academy requirements (NOT even city or Dept requirements)

=================================================
Entered academy at age 38, and was having competitions wit the the gym instructors.
He should sue like step mommy to be a commander.
Could it have been Eddie’s son? The one where they pushed back their exit out of the academy because a certain someone was on furlough and didn’t want to cut their furlough short to see his son graduate? Hmmm
Rules come and go to please the ruling class.
Now, kees me you fool!!!!
I was recently at the academy for a retirement gathering, DC Calloway spoke. All I have to say is, oh my God. It's no wonder the academy has become even more of a joke than it was. He makes commander Bangles look and sound like a professional cop. His liberal racial bias is clear. Seriously, this is the best and brightest of CPD?
Give the poor recovering cadet time to heal didn't he just lend dear old dad a can of kidney beans...

Then you can take your Power Card over to Dave and Busters and play some wicked cool games.
Supposedly there is a recruit in the 18 group at the academy who has only pasted 1 test but still three also same class is a recruit who is a rapper and uses the N word and talks about killing and guns during his rap videos. What kind of an academy are we running
Did they ever pass the pregnant female who couldn't pass have the tests??
When I got hired in the early 90's, I had to take the power test as part of the hiring process. Then in the academy we had to run the wall course in under 1 min.
But even back then no one failed the power test. If you didn't do the required push ups or bench press the required weight you became a card carrying member of the breakfast club. I saw a lot of my classmates running when I would show up for class in the morning.
I remember you also had to go over a wall. I can also remember some people or folks may have been able to go through it but not over it and still got on this job
Does anyone have a link showing what a passing score is for weight/gender? I found a description of this test online, but I'm curious if I can pass it.

Then you probably can’t.
The academy had in place several power tests during the 5 months of training. The first power test is mandated by the state training board. The following power tests required the recruits to show progress in their physical fitness. Guess who stopped the power tests? Guess who lowered the physical standards for recruits? The leader in charge of the academy for the last five years. He was quoted as the power tests are mean, and not necessary. This leader also reduced the physical punishments of recruits ( pushups). This leader cannot change the first power test as it is required by the state. Because of constant pushing by his sgt, this leader finally has brought back power tests during the academy training. It is embarrassing how a recruit can enter the academy in shape and graduate in worse shape. Only in Chicago.
Does the soft kid have to spend 3 periods with an FTO or does he get promoted straight to deputy?
This is another sure sign this job is screwed. Remember when most people came out of the academy in the best shape of their lives? Like even the fat ones were in ok shape upon graduating. Now see more and more fat ppos. That just shows that they arent really making them do anything in the academy.
The word in the academy was that the son of the superintendent of police did not pass the fist power test because he is so out of shape to pass it, so they passed him anyways. Knowing that this kid would not pass any power test, guess what? the academy stopped having the recruits taking the power tests to graduate. But as soon as this kid (future boss) graduated, the academy brought it BACK. hahahahahahahahaha..... Wooo Just Woow!!

Evidently you haven’t seen some of the recruits or you wouldn’t say that. Don’t worry , they will all pass in the end

They weren’t.
I'm surprised there is any kind of strength test at all in 2018.
By now someone must have cried and whimpered that it is designed to keep out somebody.
Boo hoo hoo.

It’s just age and gender. Weight comes into play for the bench press.
See page 6. http://www.ptb.illinois.gov/media/1320/power.pdf
You have 7 years to go? Your fucked, you'll never make it. I'm out in 3 class of 91 C
23 months and counting

Your post is the one that's wrong. The way it used to be is pass it to be eligible. Then pass it again a few weeks prior to entering the academy. Then a 3rd time the first week of the academy. Then a 4th time halfway through. Then a 5th and final time before you get out.
I passed it till I was 61 years old- then the knees said, you did a mile, you're done, go home, and so I did. Bicycled 27 miles the other day at age 66- biking, not running, to stay in shape (weights too when the weather sucks)
The power test is and always was a JOKE for any one who was used to hard exercise. I remember a couple clout kids that couldn't press that toy they used for the bench press...and forget about running.
Yes it was THE BOSS’ son who could not pass the power test.
___________________________________________________________
couldn't pass the 1st power test either or the one before going into the academy either.... He had his own "private" power test behind closed doors the day of....
go figure !!! this department is a joke.......
Entered academy at age 38, and was having competitions wit the the gym instructors.

Wow! Can I have your autograph?
I saw guys get into worse shape as a result of being in the academy. Those shaky gym instructors don’t know anything about fitness either, pushing their crossshit workouts, wall balls and other gay stuff. The gym instructors didn’t even look to be fit either. All that free time and Cush gig and they can’t even get in shape
Why couldn't THE BOSS hire a personal trainer to make sure his son can pass now they just opened up a major lawsuit from applicants who failed the POWER test?
Retired. Went to the academy about 24 years ago. We had 4 people who couldn’t do the run at the last power test. Ervin called them into the office to fire them. They looked like they were gonna cry. Sgt jash went in and saved them. 2 older women and an older guy. And one guy was over 350+ pounds.he got bigger in the academy. All members of the breakfast club. These new kids need a dose of marsh-pec-Gus t and frost.
Power test should have never left.
Me and other classmates would show up early and help others run and we would help others with their grip, and pushups, or studying, and just the emotions caused by changes in life. But the one thing they all had in common, besides showing up. They all tried and wanted to do a good job and be the police!
Anyone have any doubt about body cams recording constantly in buffering mode ....that’s why there’s no audio on the tape.
Therefore anytime you use the bathroom , walk into the locker room you have zero privacy while that nonsense strapped to your chest is powered on...period. Thanks FOP for taking care of those stuck in patrol police.

Went through the Police Academy with PPO Keith C., let's just say his snoring kept all of us riveted...(happily retired class of 86-9)
What’s the big deal. For years everyone passes the power test. Even if it takes passing it in a private session
Worked in Area 4 and used to watch the recruits run. Towards the end of the recruits time in the academy you would see a group of recruits running down Jackson. Then sometimes 10 minutes back and blocks and blocks behind there was a group of recruits basically walking. Surprisingly a few weeks later they all passed and they all graduated. It was a miracle. City doesn’t want to flunk them because of the time and money it cost to train a recruit. Then there are the clouted ones and the ones that can’t be flunked because of the political backlash
Unreal.
I remember thinking (way back) in the Tero days, that the academy probably had it about right. Civilians thought it was too hard, those with military experience thought it was too easy. Was about the middle ground.
OT: take a look around at who the city has cleaning the buildings now. A little detective work found IR 804024(convicted felon and listed gang member) as having full access to the station. He's still there might I add.

Anyone who failed the power test file a lawsuit, you will get back pay too.

If you don't drop an info report on that, you're a fool.
While I agree if you aint passing the power test you shouldn't be on the job...I also have always thought it was a joke. I'm a skinny guy with a small belly that doesn't do much of what anyone would call a work out. The hardest event for me was the sit and reach. And I exercise more, usually running every couple days, now than when I came on. I was 29 in the academy and not challenged by PT (burb academy) but the young 20s were in there dying like they were in labor. I couldn't believe it. I'm pushing 30 with a wife and kids and these fresh out of college studs make me look like Captain America. It still baffles me. And the young kids in the military are no better.
That bs has been going on forever.
