- A man has died after police shot him Saturday evening in the South Shore neighborhood, according to the Chicago Fire Department.
Paramedics responded to the 7100 block of South Chappel Avenue shortly after 5:30 p.m. and took the victim, an adult male, to Jackson Park Hospital, where he will be pronounced dead, said Larry Merritt, a fire department spokesman.
No police officers were injured, said head police spokesman Anthony [Google-me], who used 2098 E. 71st St. as the address of the shooting.
You have to wonder about a fire department spokesman predicting someone will be declared dead.

As I watched an interview on WGN Live, they interviewed a local male who stated "well I didn't see the shooting but I Heard he did't have a gun on him". So as someone who watched the POD video that captured the entire incident, several times over to watch each movement "snoop" made. He had a holster on his body from which he pulled out a gun and at one point, had it pointed towards officer's before he was shot. Why is it that news media outlets put idiots who were not on scene to give their versions of events, only to cause more hate in the community?

There is a missing piece to this story. I caught a bus on 71st st. a few blocks west of where the shooting occurred at about 3:20PM. At that time there appeared to be a rally of some sort going on just east of 71st & Jeffrey at the shopping center (amplified voices, crowd response, etc). This is not mentioned in any of the news stories. Issa, the Sun-Times reporter, appears to have been present at the time of the shooting. Why? Does he usually hang out on 71 & Jeffrey with the people selling 'squares'?

Last night I lectured a good kid, a black kid, not to come on this job and to take up an offer from a suburb instead. Yes, interviews with folks on the street who blamed poor police community relations for the upheaval. Well, pardon me, but I would like the media to identify a large city that has good community police relations? I don't think that one exits, that is good community relations between the police and black people. Perpetual victims is all that you find.

I had a brother [real brother] shoot his brother to death on either the 43rd or 47th st El platform. Some moron comes running up, on the street level, saying I " I saw it, I saw it. The police killed him." I then informed him that his brother killed him and is in custody, and he responded ,'uh, okay" , and walked away. This was early 80's. Nothing new about these kind of responses form our citizens.
I say CPD pulls out of that area of “the community” to give the “community members” room to decompress.

As I watched an interview on WGN Live, they interviewed a local male who stated "well I didn't see the shooting but I Heard he did't have a gun on him". So as someone who watched the POD video that captured the entire incident, several times over to watch each movement "snoop" made. He had a holster on his body from which he pulled out a gun and at one point, had it pointed towards officer's before he was shot. Why is it that news media outlets put idiots who were not on scene to give their versions of events, only to cause more hate in the community?
And there again is glen brooks the director of "I drive my city vehicle drunk and crash into parked cars", standing by the cameras like statue and never moving his lips.

Commander Gloria Hannah is a disgrace. Seeing her dressed that way at a major incident was shameful. We all give up something for this job. When you’re a Commander you should at least give up extensions to your ass and hoop earrings when responding to a major crime scene. And don’t get me started on the Dollar Store bracelets. This is not the first time she has embarrassed the department with her hair and wardrobe choices. When is enough enough? Hannah has singlehandedly set women on this job back 25years. She’s a perfect poster child for why men believe women don’t deserve a seat in the squad car. She makes me sick.

I think we should consider de-policing certain areas. Take CPD officers out of the South Shore, Austin, Englewood, Garfield Park, and others with high crime that activists and the media believe at least in good part is caused by police.
Not trying to be smart, this is a serious idea. If we eliminate the tension, then maybe crime will go down a bit. I'm not saying crime in these communities is the police's fault, but it's perceptions and attitudes that could be leading to more crime. Thoughts?

I believe each officer either receives or buys a helmet when they are in the academy.
Why point out any uniform inadequacy regardless of the useless rank of command. We need to recognize how serious all of these acts are against us and stand behind each other in solidarity. Wtf with the extra magazine and loaded weapon-good shooting period! He went for his weapon-as the police you shoot-today to stop the threat-but me as the retired police I’d shoot to eliminate the threat. I still believe if you shoot it is to eliminate the threat. I was trained to shoot and use deadly force against deadly force-this offender exhibited a deadly force-shoot-end the that threat-move on! God bless all of you in this time of policing!
