Overtime Down 30%

  • Overtime spending in the Chicago Police Department dropped 30 percent during the first quarter, thanks to tighter controls to rein in, what Inspector General Joe Ferguson called an “unchecked culture of abuse.”

From January through April, police officers were paid $29.7 million in overtime, down from $42.1 million during the same period a year ago.

    [...]

Police Supt. Eddie Johnson said the effort to rein in overtime has been helped by strategic deployment centers now located in “half” of Chicago’s 22 police districts.

They use predictive analytics, ShotSpotter technology and new high-definition surveillance cameras to stop crime before it occurs.

“It helps us to be more proactive and streamline where we’re going. We know where to put the officers to be proactive to stop some of the violence,” he said.
Special Ed has officially jumped the shark. Shotspotter does nothing to "stop" crime. It is a passive system that detects when a crime (firing a gun within city limits) has already occurred. It has prevented nothing. The hi-def cameras are nice - if they're up, working, recording, and pointed in the right direction. Otherwise, you have something like a 30% chance of actually catching crime when it's set on a random search pattern.

On a sarcastic note, we heard that homicide shooting clearance rates are down 30% from last year's abysmal 20% clearance rate.

The day has arrived that shotspotter boondoggle has to pony up RESULTS.

Truth is finally coming out.

Shotspotter is among the largest fleecings ever perpatrated upon taxpayers.

Hey Eddie if it’s that simple, why not triple or quadruple the number of “Strategic Deployment Centers” and triple or quadruple the number of high def cameras to cut overtime 90%.

Hell why stop there? Multiply it tenfold and you can cut crime completely.

Eddie you’re an idiot. A disgrace to police officers. You’ll do anything and say anything to help Rahm get re-elected. Embarrassing really.

Let's look a little deeper. Perhaps it was the elimination of vri 1800 start at both 011 and the old 007 dist that shrunk the overtime payout. Just saying

WOW

IF anyone checked on the amount of shootings that actually have person questioned RAHM would lose the next election.

The bullets get inventoried

The POD footage is watched

The canvass is done

AND still nobody is found. The case is suspended and that is the end of it.

Ok so last staff meeting commander comes in and is complaining about how shootings and crime in general is up in the district. This was after crime being down up til this point. In prior meetings he harped on the fact that the Sdsc room was responsible for the drop in crime. So I asked what was the Sdsc room going to do about the rise in crime. And he just continued to talk about how the supervisors and officers need to work harder and stop more people. So as long as they can say crime is down the rooms are responsible. When it's up it's the officers faults.

no mention of the fact they pretty much reduced VRI by 150+ officers a night. Districts like 010 had 3 boxes. That's roughly 20 less squad cars a night!

As Anyone who has ever followed a sports team knows, as anyone who has experienced 25-30 years of weather, as anyone who lives knows, there will be up days, and down days- they revolve around a mean - sometimes there are reasons and sometimes not. When crime blips down, all the boys at the organized criminal enterprise at 35 th st say it's their policies and technology. I put forward this explanation: last year, the drug competition was reduced dramatically. This year, with less competition, there is less violence. When competition heats up again, as it will, we will see an increase in violence. Off topic, but also important, if your car is stolen, it is described as a stolen car. If my sig pistol is stolen , why is it called an illegal gun? It is not a sawed off shotgun, a sawed off rifle or a machine gun- those are illegal guns - my sig, if stolen , remains a legal firearm, although a stolen one - another way the political hacks at 35th st manipulate the truth.

What's wrong with the city? Better question is what's right, now that should stump anybody!
Sorry I can't think of one thing that is right in the city! Can any of you?
I can tell you a good start, a new mayor, a new states attorney, a lot of new judges, clean house at the city council and cut them down to 25 alderpeople and make them part time because they never did nothing full time but mess shxx up. Next get rid of the state reps and senators and cut the spots in half and again part time! Elect a real attorney general! This would be a good start and get everything back on track. Almost forgot....get rid of every county board and related government in the state and assign the unincorporated areas to towns! Look at the boards in the state that have ridiculous perks and pay and pensions. Start with the toll way! I think you all get the idea, stop the bleeding caused by nepotism, politics and greed!

They trimmed VRI, that's how they cut overtime. These twits are as dumb as a box of rocks and the media is as uninterested in finding something real to write about as a crack head is in going cold turkey. I love these new recruits, those instructors at the academy are telling these inexperienced officers that they are the future, the change! Theses dimwits actually believe it. They told us the same damn lies in the late 90's. Only we weren't obtuse enough to believe that the experienced officers were untrained and useless. I'm so tired of these house mouse heroes and their big mouths. Can I get a number for a negative community interaction? Hey, are there any inside jobs available for me? Hell, I've been on the streets 3 months now, isn't that long enough?

If they in fact ‘saved’ 30% in funding OT, then send it towards their underfunded pension payment obligation.
(They’ll blow that 30% savings by giving the ‘crickets’ OT waiting for the money to be rightfully then sent in to the Pension Fund)

Firs of all, Special Ed doesn’t know his ass from a hole in the ground.
He has nothing but contempt for police officers.
He’s just doing what he’s told by Rahm2019, he has no ability to think on his own.

Overtime is down because of a crooked, no-bid, high priced contraption, seeing an actual return on that investment will never come.
It’s there for looks. Talk about time abuse. It doesn’t measure actual time spent doing 3 hrs of insider housemouse work in a 8hr day does it? Want a clearence, start with a manpower assessment.
Something should be done with bloated staffing of house mice of every rank and bloated title.
Shuffle that stationary manpower to avoid moss growth.

How long before Rahm spouts off a campaign speech with another closing line that reads “I saved $42.1 million, thank you very much”.
That savings will NOT be adding equipment vis-à-vis vehicles and personnel to the CPD budget, it will actually lower it next year.
Another round of funding Sanctuary entitlements is more likely going to be spent this year with that savings.

It’s Cook Co...nobody is getting convicted, nobody getting jailed, with a smoking gun or bloody knife.
Go out and get your numbers, leave clearances questions for Phflucher, JJJSr, Special Ed and KimmFxxxup, junior law clerk and duly elected States Activist.
We’re making arrests that’s it - just for statistics to heighten Rahm’s image.
We’re making arrests to have a need for his community inspired COPA decree.

Now if you all can go out and arrest a shitload of white folks (not just one drunk in the forest preserves) and just put a case on them, maybe a Cleared by Arrest will be great again.

No more arrest = no court appearances = a cut in over time. Area court branches are ghost towns. Also, body cams captures on view arrest and offender admissions. No need for officers to testify.

You may feel that way, but I’d imagine the vast majority of officers could care less if it’s a bid spot. You want the union to collectively bargain to make that a bid spot? What is the union going to give up to the city to gain that “benefit” that affects 1% of the department?

Similar to the last regimen and retirees giving away duty availability for the new kids on the last contract, you can’t try to renegotiate that benefit back into the contract for 5% of the department. It should have never been given away in the first place, but you can’t give up something that affects 100% of the department for a benefit for 5%.

Wait to you see the future, you know why the junk ford unmarked fusions are rented? The city will have all detectives in uniform as they should be and buying all marked vehicles, the time keeping in the detective unit cannot justify a less than 13% clearance rate! To many are getting double and triple salaries with excessive overtime, wonder will the repossessed jeep wranglers with punisher decals be sold cheap? How about the jet skis and boats? Ferguson does not like police, cannot see a clearly low hanging fruit, handed to him lying lieutenants exam offenders, but he can audit this unit!

Hopefully all that happens is that coppers are required to payback some of that money, and hopefully the media does not get the disks, then we have a major problem at contract time again! They just demoted a CFD deputy chief so expect some of "eddies betties" to be dumped at the least finally, the summer heats up,and Ferguson just appointed another deputy, who has soul responsibility to look into CPD! The file he was given makes it easy for him to make a name for himself, see you at your fundraiser will be the enw phrase all over D-units!
