Can CFD Confirm?

A couple e-mailers sent this:
  • Hey SCC, let your co-workers know that CFD just took delivery of six new ambulances and in each of the ambulances are six cameras - on in the driver compartment to keep an eye on traffic, one in the back to look in on the patient, and the rest pointing outward to view the scene around the ambulance. We know you guys and gals are aware of bus cameras, stoplight cameras, speed cameras and every pedestrian with a camera. Just thought we'd warn you about the ones on our ambos now.
Good to know.

HIPPA applies to the patient compartment if the patient refuses medical treatment and is taken into protective custody by CFD for treatment per fire department policy and the patient then objects to the care based upon religious preference.

This is a hornets nest....Eliminate cameras inside the ambo.

Pay me.

They are like the bus cameras not like in car cameras where they upload. They are held on a hard drive for only 48 hours then over written. If you wanna get video, the ambulance has to be taken out of service and the hard drive pulled just like the cta buses. So nobody is just randomly viewing these unless an incident happens which needs to be downloaded. Otherwise the footage is gone in 48 hours.

i can confirm all but the one in the patient compartment. that’s a Hipaa violation. plain and simple. if it is indeed in the back, some
civil rights/hipaa attorneys outta take notice.

They have four outside cameras. They do not continuously record. They have a recording device that triggers if you are involved in an accident that captures approximately 15 seconds before and 15 seconds after. There are no cameras inside the patient compartment. The only time a CFD rig has cameras inside the patient compartments is when a CPD Officer is back there with the body camera activated.

Not a Hippa violation. Dissemination of the video would make it a violation. The act of recording itself is not, disclosure is.

Not only HIPAA but the Illinois Department of Public Health has been adamantly against video cameras aimed at patients. Perhaps they have a workaround by putting the camera behind the patient so you can't identify their face, but with the number of patients who don't sit still, I'd be surprised if this passed muster - if they even bothered to ask.

I love it and defense attorneys are starting to hate it. We can adapt and act accordingly. The public under the influence or raised a certain way seems to have trouble not acting the fool. Cameras are showing the public and media what we really deal with on a daily basis.

More big brother BS. I am still not a fan of the body cameras, not because I think cops should get away with doing anything dirty, but because cops act in a way that most humans cannot understand. Take that away from cops and you get robots, or worse, cops that simply do not respond to back others up. Ya they are great when there is a police shooting, but there are very few police shootings.

It's HIPAA, not HIPPA. Federal law. Requires that protected identifiable information (aka "PHI" which includes name, address, drivers license number, phone number, SS#, photo etc) be shared only on a "need to know" basis and patients are informed how the information is used and shared. Ambulance crews already collect and record PHI and this is just one more bit of PHI that ambulance crews will have. That it is destroyed after 48 hours and inaccessible except in extraordinary circumstances makes it a pretty low risk situation with regard to HIPAA violation.

Hey SCC CFD medic here there are more than six but none record into the cab or back of the box it is against IDPH policy for us to record patient care unless we can digitally attach the video to the medical record. Which won’t happen for 100 years. Also the cameras don’t constantly record they only record .... at least anymore.... events IE an accidents. So just don’t tackle people into an ambo that don’t deserve it and we will all be fine

Police officers have been disciplined for less than his actions .
Director Schmitz ,ISP , have your investigators swear out a warrant for Johnson ,Phleger , Jackson Sr . And let them explIn it to a judge .

There are cameras in the hospitals, so why not keep them in the back of the ambulance compartments when patients are being treated. Imagine how much money they will save in lawsuits with the camera footage. They record everything via reports and it is kept confidential because of HIPPA so why not just keep the camera footage confidential. The city is already paying out alot of money from lawsuits for improper medical care. Trust me it is coming!!!!!

http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/laquanmcdonald/ct-met-laquan-mcdonald-police-conspiracy-media-access-20180710-story.html

Then you read this and wonder am I insane-psychotic-or just plain stupid to do any proactive police work in the jungles of chiraq,as we already know world news we are the most corrupt city-state-county in the entire USA! Will JVD lawyer pull back in the police bosses who took that 6 figure pension and rapidly retired and make them testify in their roll in this boondoggle? Just disgusting to think that the first impulse,on paper was good shoot, then politics became the front runner and stories changed,as the bosses ran for cover!

When the bosses tell you "go get them kid" "we have your back" look behind them for the size of the knives. When your sitting in court, and then at home thinking what can happen with the corruption in the court system it should give you pause to think and observe these fine officers! When you being sued and that fat-ass,boss with the gold star and shiny shoes, is laughing with his feet on the desk, and your in court all alone knowing you could lose everything your family-home-career-and freedom you need to put on that thinking cap and say "not going to be me!" Or will it be you? Your choice!

Six cameras. How many mics and Bluetooth pickups?
Siri, anyone?
Those ambos as you call them are recording jack rabbit starts,
stops, engine revs, total speeds, deceleration, lateral sway,
# of times put in reverse, AND top speed in reverse.
Don't even think about doing donuts.
You're also gonna be busted for food & drink inside the ambos,
because they are disease vectors.

Talked to some CFD guys, said it is true but limited to Ambo 33. Shows driver area and road, sides and back outside view, and one pointed into the patient area showing where the gurney sits but not the sitting wall.

Supposedly activated when the ambulance speeds or stops suddenly, they weren't sure about any other time
