FOIA Numbers

Our Sometime-Stat-Guy has come up with a few new charts:

And property crime clearance rates are falling, too:

We're thinking that needle isn't going to move until the Department doubles the size of the D-unit and spends a bit of money on actual professional evidence collection and processing.

Clearance rate goes down like property values and confidence Chicago will ever dig itself out of this shithole that it is.

No detectives with half a brain is doing anything to cause them to be second guessed, so that means no work. This is what they asked for.

These odds make your chances of getting away with murder better than winning at the casino! Unbelievable! And Rahm wants another term! To funny, laughable!

The community (folks) is getting the policing they asked for.

Rahm doesn't have money for anything that is going to help police, fire or city employee's. He drew his line in the sand with every hard working tax paying citizen in the city when he endorsed and allowed the BS protest to shut down the Dan Ryan starring "REALLY SPECIAL" ED & the other two, who are responsible for more problems in the city, Jessie "mumbles" Jackson & irrelevant father "legend in his own mind" phleger! Then Rahm belittled the Governor for trying to "UPHOLD THE LAWS OF ILLINOIS"!
RAHM YOU ARE A WASTE AS IS ANY MONEY YOU SPEND SEEKING RE-ELECTION. HAVE FUN YOUR DAYS ARE NUMBERED! I DON'T THINK SOMEONE TRYING TO SCREW THE CITY UP COULD HAVE SCREWED IT UP WORSE THAN RAHM!

All the candidates for Mayor need to pick up on this. Special Ed is incompetent and should be let go. Crime is way to high and no one is getting caught.

No one at the top knows what they are doing. Rahm is totally the blame for cutting manpower.

Well they must not want to solve crime in Chicago. A lot of victims who will never get justice. Don’t worry, Ed will march instead of doing his job and running a department.

This is totally inexcusable. I would get an all new command staff for the detective division. Stop it already with the excuse of no snitch policy. This is just made up crap by upper management.

Sounds quite masochistic.

My advice is to do best you can under current administration and retire. I plan on moving far as I can from here. Crime is totally out of control. Can you imagine what the neighborhoods will look like in five to ten years of unchecked crime.

Is this the stuff Special Ed thinks isn’t important. I never hear anyone talking about this. As you were no problem here.

Imagine how much better evidence collection would be if the city had more than 5 guys working each watch running clear across the city. Amazing how some of them can actually still function after being in court all day then showing up to a homicide at the end of their shift.

Department failed the victims and the public they serve. This should be a top priority to fix this problem.

We have a detective unit? Why are the so called command staff morons not terminated? 12% clearance rate? Getting marked vehicles done soon and they will all be uniform at least we will have a more visible police presence!

How do you clear any crime when there are not enough Evidence Techs? You think a scene is not contaminated when it sits for 5 hours waiting to get processed? And then, of course, when you’re down 300 detectives, who the fuck really cares about clearing crime?

Under the leadership of Johnson, the clearance rate has dropped below 20%. That is a disgrace for a large big city police department. Will the mayor or city counsel ever hold him accountable? Maybe we should keep the new detectives on summer foot patrol? They would be more useful than assigning them to the detective division. OMG

Clearance is only an internal statistic.
Like a Guilty plea is to a Cook Co Conviction.
The violent armed feral are being let go to commit more crimes.

The ACLU arm of The Cook Co Office of States Activism making it even easier everyday for the persistent arrestee.
Can’t hold on to witnesses, released pending video, not talking-get walking because it’s all recorded on behalf of the defense atty.
It all points to mismanagement and lack of hiring.
And restorative justice.
Mostly restorative justice.
No boss merit or otherwise will admit to who’s running the CPD.

Clearance is a joke.
Take it at that, if we can get one, it’s nothing more than a feather in a Merit Bosses downtown fedora.
Caseload goes down by one, if lucky maybe a multi-clearance, but there’s always another day and pick up another three unsolved community mysteries.
All in a days work.
And it’s one day at a time.

Clear - Suspended in disbelief and I’m not complaining.

Why do we even waste the salary and extra unmarked cars? They should all be in uniform,in marked cars maybe then a full tour could be worked and they would not be outside the city shopping!

You can't blame most of the detectives . Although i would venture to guess there are a few who should not be detectives, both merit or rank ordered test takers. The system is now against them .

Abolish the detective division or at least totally change the command structure. These numbers along with the homicide clearance rate are a total joke. Why are we paying for and putting up with this incompetence? Is no one accountable? Must be a lot of merit bosses in that division which explains lack of productivity. Pit them back on the street writing parking tickets. At least that way will be generating some revenues instead of stealing their paychecks. First step new commander makes is abolish ALL overtime, All overtime for everyone at all levels.

Shootings down, robberies down, other violent crimes down and so are clearance rates. Some are calling for more detectives why those on job are not performing with less work. Putting more on the job without total change in management will only waste time and money. Good leaders will get results. But with a lack of any good leasers in the CPD I am afraid more bodies will only result is less crimes being solved. Why do you think a general is fired during wartime. Good leadership will get results. But you have to understand that clearing cases will put many more people of color in jail. So maybe that is the whole issue, people of color committing crimes that restorative justice is ok. Just put the dicks out on street where they might do some good. Forget detecting crime start preventing crime. First step is abolish the cold case squad. Who cares that they might get lucky and solve a 40 year old crime. That energy should be going to solve and prevent todays crimes.

All the merit promotions have caught up with the detective division at all levels. Prime example of the Peter Principle is the CPD Detective Division.

Real simple solution to the clearance rates. Accountability no one is held to any standards. Years of 15% or less Homicide clearance rates and who got fired? Why is there any overtime allowed for detectives when they are not producing suitable results. Money wasted with no results, why spend it when there in no return on investment. This BS of no quotas has OT to stop. No quotas just means it is ok to do nothing. Without some measure of accountability for on the job performance things will continue the way they are. Just lots of excuses for not getting the job done. There needs to be a new Sherri in charge that everyone is afraid of. Tough fair leader that will not put with all that is currently happening. He needs to be able to pick his own management team and shake things up at all levels. It is obvious things are not working so time for something new.

The homicide drop is obvious to me, but looking at the robbery drop demonstrates to me, robbery dicks aren't the way they use to be. When robbery units were separate from other units, they were considered the Task Force of the D. Homicide dicks always said robbery dick's were crazy fucks. That's right, homicide was over glorified and that's a fact.
