- City Inspector General Joe Ferguson Wednesday said he favors requiring Chicago police to document incidents in which an officer points a gun at a person.
Whether they should have to is the lone sticking point in negotiations between the city and the state attorney general's office over a proposed court agreement intended to govern reforms in the Chicago Police Department.
Ferguson said Wednesday he had a gun pulled on him by a robber who stuck up a gas station where he worked as a youth — and then had police pull their weapons on him minutes later when they responded and thought he might have been the culprit. He contended it’s a life-altering experience.
So was getting robbed you idiot. In the meantime, everything now becomes a TRR, removing multiple officers and supervisors from the street to fill out paperwork that just gets more extensive, more involved and more nit-picky by the minute.

I LOVE extra paperwork. Why avoid generating a report for an incident and risk liability down the line? Our general orders state every bonafied criminal act must be documented. Use it to your advantage! No one will ever say no to documenting whatever happened if you’re persistent. I look at it as extra time off the street, and less opportunity to be jammed up.
The new fetal movement isn’t avoiding work, it’s doing work that YOU want to do to avoid all the nonsense calls that you don’t want. Take that hit and run auto accident, volunteer to block traffic on a crime scene, look extra hard for those shotspotter shell casings that require a report and inventory. So, to any citizens calling for police service you might have to wait 3, 4 or 5 hours for a police car to show up because the powers that be have the police in the station filling out useless reports.
So now we have to swipe in, carry a ton of extra equipment, body cam,taser, phone, etc. Then they add more paperwork. I will continue to avoid any nonsense at any cost.

This is my thought as well. How many times has the weapon been drawn previously? What is the race of the subject? Additionally I’m sure there will have to be a whole other narrative to fill out. In addition to TRR and every other statement given to COPA, detectives etc following a shooting. Just one more piece of information for the attorneys to pick apart. “There narrative is the same as the TRR, collusion!” Or, “why is this narrative different fromthe TRR. Liar!” God forbid there’s an extra element involved like an ISR. Imagine if you stopped someone, searched them, they ran away with a weapon and you followed then shot the subject. You’d need to justify the stop, justify the search, justify the chase, justify drawing your weapon, then justify firing the weapon. God forbid at any point you do something wrong or “fail to deesculate.”
Ask yourselves, is it worth it?
And I love the idea mentioned above that because the Feds do, we should. Ok, well then let’s have 72 hours before making a statement following a shooting like the Feds. You can’t just pick and choose what to emulate from them.

I worked in hood for first few years, gun was out almost every encounter, non hood for last 10+, people look at you sideways (other cops) when you take gun out. Pulled it out about once or twice per year. So making good cops do paper on gun draw is fucking insane and the end for the hood.

A dozen police and sheriff's cars went screaming past my rural flyover home today, sirens going full blast. No, it wasn't a massive crime response, they were taking special needs kids for a ride as part of a summer program. The other big police news here lately was that officers in a nearby small town found abandoned kittens in a box in a store parking lot and gave them a full police escort to the local vet, where they were cared for and adopted out.
Outside of the shithole Democrat cities, America is a VERY different place. Take your family outside of the city and breath some freedom for a change.

Back in the day when most cars were one man, no safety vests and we did not have portable radios, everytime I got out of the car on a traffic stop at night I had my snub nose in my hand either behind my back or under my ticket book. We were losing a lot of officers back then and the city did nothing to make the job better. If you point the gun at someone I can see their point for a short report, but there should be no report for merely taking it out. But, knowing the city and the assholes who always gravitate to R&D, the reports will be long winded.
So what if they want you to generate more paperwork, in fact why not do what airline pilots do when they're in contentious contract negotiations and just slow things down, from the preflight inspections to every other little task that has to be performed before, during and after a flight.
Take your time, you're getting paid whether you're doing paperwork or patrolling. And when you're doing your paperwork, agonize over every word you use, every punctuation mark you insert. Don't hesitate to dawdle over each and every letter in a word, if possible.
They are practically handing you an opportunity to legally engage in the blue flu. Take it and run with it.

It may have looked like I was being unsafe, but my hand was on my Roscoe with it pointed directly at the bad guys on almost every traffic/street stop I was on in 'the hood.'

Sounds like you don't know your use of force policy. No where does it say we are not supposed to not kick ass and take names. The question is are you justified or not justified according to our use of force policy and the law. If your actions are within the use of force guidelines and the law then you are going to be ok.

Yes. Seeing CCTV footage from friends and neighbors cameras was enough to convince me. Just installed some on the exterior of my house. Luck was on my side. Did not have to damage any plaster, siding or brickwork to install the cameras and wiring. Previously knew nothing about the subject until doing some research. As with anything, you can spend big money or not so big money depending on your wants, needs, finances and level of DIY ability.
I cannot wait until you see the new lineup at the SAO....like a fucking code pink rally. I can’t even anymore......
What’s the problem? Another long report that will tie you up for another 15-30 minutes means more down time that your not available to get in trouble.

The problem that can exist in and destroy any occupation is overload. There is simply too much asked of officers. When there is a sizable amount of equipment one must carry combined with excessive, mainly pointless and redundant paperwork, while considering many other job stressors, it becomes impossible to be an effective and efficient police officer while remaining safe.
