So, Two Anti-Union Candidates
Surprise! JB Pritzker is anti-union, too:
- A company owned by J.B. Pritzker is warning its employees not to join a union, according to a letter one of its employees posted to Facebook.
"There's only one way to guarantee that you can avoid the problems a union could possibly cause. Just SAY NO!" the letter reads.
Billy Dean, an employee for SeaDog Ventures, which is an Entertainment Cruises company, posted the letter to his Facebook page. Dean claims he started pushing to form a union after his employer increased his workload up to "12-15 hour days with no break."
JB realized that this clashes with his so-called "progressive" stances on things, and he switched directions faster than you'd think a large-boned individual could:
- A day after the pro-union Democratic candidate for governor, J.B. Pritzker, was confronted on camera about union-busting activities at a company owned by his venture capital firm, Entertainment Cruises has changed its tune regarding its employees’ attempt to unionize.
Entertainment Cruises issued a statement on Friday saying that the company, which is owned by the Pritzker Group, supports “the right of our shipmates to engage in organization activities” and “respects this right and will conduct itself throughout the [unionization] process with integrity and fairness.”
Just another pandering rich democrat saying anything he needs to get elected. Hopefully, Rauner's people drop the entire Blago tape soon.

Public employee unions should be abolished and the other unions tightly regulated. At will employment is the best way to go for all concerned. Get all unions out of politics.

I don’t believe he mentioned anything in his campaign about bringing back permanent manufacturing.

Pachyderm Pritzker overwhelmingly beat his opponents but the kicker is that he tallied 1.2 million Dem votes to only 700,000 GOP votes.
He was relatively unknown by most. Lots a fraud in Cook County going unchecked but doubt that even a 100,000 cheats would be possible.
The landslide by the Bloated obama supporter has a lot to do with Low Republican Turn Out.
It’s no doubt that Cook County is awash with corruption but I’ll vote Rauner.
Get registered, get an absentee ballot if you have to for your kids, whomever.

Way to go Billy. Don't talk to your Boss about the change. Don't ask if you'll be getting compensated with Overtime Pay. Don't talk to him about that 'break' that you want. Hell, don't even talk to your Boss about you QUITTING if things aren't modified. No, don't do any of that, but immediately threaten to Unionize. Yep, way to go, asshole.
The fact is that the quickest way to drive a company out of business is when they have to start dealing with Unions. And the funny part is, the Union doesn't fucking care! (see: Hostess Bakeries)
Those employees who unionized in the first place are now Unemployed because their Union was determined at ANY cost to get that extra $.25 cents an hour. Even though the Company showed them they couldn't afford it and would have to close down. That's No Sweat off the Union Reps nose -- he works for the union.
I've posted before, how Unions destroyed Chicago's manufacturing jobs along with other industries (Meat Packing, Chicago Stockyards) that once called Chicago home.
ps: I consider a few unions as beneficial, like Building Trade Unions that have Apprenticeships, and for Police & Fire. But NOT for Teachers and General Gov Employees

Unions had their day but for the last few decades all they've done is shit on everything, including themselves, so I can't fault Pritzker for not liking them. The absolutely insane federal and (blue) state labor laws rammed through in the 70s are as significant as NAFTA in trashing America's manufacturing infrastructure, not to mention the multitude of individual companies shut down or driven overseas in the 90s and 00s because dysfunctional local union bosses valued penis waving over their little town having a stable source of employment. Well, the reality is that lavish public employee pensions and benefits are the main reason why this state is drowning in red ink. I see no good reason why I should be taxed into oblivion to keep these people fat and happy. Between the market crash and having to dip into my 401k to stave off foreclosure during two years of unemployment in Spaklefart's reign of error, I probably will have to work till I drop dead. Why should I have my paycheck plundered to shield government employees from the economic pain I am forced to experience? "But, but, we were promised these pensions!" . To steal a line from Animal House, "Face it. You fucked up. You trusted them".
I work in the IT sector, independent contractor. Would love to be in a union. I have seen, heard and witnessed bullshit firings. From merely saying hello to a woman on the job, from talking a certain way, from just not being liked, bullshit like that. Being in a union would prevent that. I work in a rare industry where you can make 60 a hour or more, not have massive student debt, not have to put your life in danger or at risk on the job or with the elements. Why do you think hundreds of thousands take Metra downtown each and everyday? To work the IT gigs here, hang out downtown after work, go to Cubs games, then take the money back to the burbs. Many of us tried to form a IT union years ago but companies shot that down quick.

Nearly all the tradesmen I know are union members. During the recession, many were out of work for extended periods of time. While Republicans are held out as the boogeyman: with Janus and Right to Work, there is a bigger problem looming on the horizon that many are ignoring to their peril.
The law of supply and demand. Too many illegals and cheap labor--lower wages and more competition. There was an oversupply of labor during the last recession. Keep supporting the Democrats and Sanctuary City garbage to your long term peril. Look at how many trade jobs we've lost already. At least Trump wants to put a stop to the floodgates that have been opened for far too long.
