Term Limit Proposal

  • A preliminary analysis indicates former Gov. Pat Quinn and other supporters of a binding referendum to set term limits on Chicago mayors gathered more than enough valid signatures to place the question on the November ballot.

The Chicago Board of Election Commissioners reported Thursday that its line-by-line examination of petitions circulated by Quinn’s Take Charge Chicago group counted at least 54,995 valid signatures — exceeding the 52,533 minimum required by law.

Quinn’s group submitted a total of 87,355 signatures, but nearly 42,000 of the signatures were challenged on various grounds by objectors aligned with Mayor Rahm Emanuel.
However, the 50 thieves on the City Council are likely to forego placing a risky proposition like this that might actually damage the Machine on the actual ballot. It's still an uphill climb.

Forget Term Limits, how about reducing the number of Aldermen to 20 or 25? Take ALL that money saved and pour it into more police on the street.

I'm ALL for that!

The City Council is mostly a Rubberstamp Approval process anyway. No diverse ideas or innovative perspectives on it.

You can rubberstamp government decisions a LOT faster with only 20 Aldermen compared to 50. Meetings would be shorter too. Less people to stand up and talk. Roll call votes will move a lot quicker.

While they're fucking with state law, why don't they work on rescinding the one that requires Chicago employees to live in the city?

This law will never fly. It opens up too many other doors, like term limits for ALL elected offices in Illinois.

That'll never happen in Madiganistan.

It might be, SCC, but consider that the machine is sick of Rahm. Someone put Quinn up to it, and we can hate him all we want. But my enemies’ enemy is my friend! And to the crackpot Rahm media squad, know this: your days are numbered. Consider that when you are making assanine comments cornering Vallas and Joyce. You people are done. Suck it.

FYI...Quinn anticipated the city’s move to block the referendum from being placed on the Mayoral ballot and head faked them because he is submitting it to included on the 👉Governor’s Ballot👈 instead which takes place in November. If 51% vote Yes, in favor of Mayoral term limits for the City of Chicago then Rham Emmanuel is automatically 👉disqualified👈 from running on the Mayoral ballot in February!!! What a Brilliant move by Pat Quinn!!!!!

Term limits are a great idea for Chicago mayors, Illinois governors, and all members of congress from Illinois. If they didn't get theirs in two terms, they're inefficient at promoting themselves.

48 Thieves.
We have only 2 Aldermen that intelligently and reliably vote against expensive, useless and wasteful Rahm proposals.
The Gang of 48 will see their positions in jeopardy next.
The ethic caucuses have plans for their insurgence in 2023 with a little preview this coming 2019.

Quinn has an uphill climb due to the entrenched corrupt legal system we have.
Rahm should never been allowed to run as a city candidate or be hired for NOT RESIDING in Chicago.
A friggin box in the basement is not Residency when the premise is being Occupied by another renter.
But a loyal appointed justice differed.

If Rahm runs, he will exhaust every campaign cent to do it and it’s not guaranteed he’ll win either.
There’s a lot of other components to Rahm bailing, firstly are those millions in walk away money, second is impending social disorder.
So I feel the community tempered winds pickup, not so much if the referendum leans towards Quinns favor, Rahm is going to wimp out on a “family first” matter and try to save his weak reputation.

Rahm’s team of Resistors are going all out to stall this referendum issue until polling shows otherwise.
Another moment to Thank God Hillary didn’t win.

Vote and Stay Fetal Anyway.

It's funny that Quinn is the one leading the term limit charge. I agree there should be term limits on all politicians, especially aldermen. Corruption is inevitable the longer someone stays in office. I don't trust Quinn one bit though. He's still sore about losing to Rauner. Just another egomaniac trying to stay relevant. Now that Rauner's in office, I wonder if he changed his stance on term limits.

Didn’t Potatohead Quinn disagree with term limits when he was in office? Funny how that work. I seem to remember when Rauner ran against Quinn, Rauner wanted term limits. I do believe he still advocates for term limits, but the bottom feeder career politicians (which Quinn once was before being dumped, again) did not want that going to a vote. Do as I say, not as I do. Seems to be a common theme these days.

SCC,

Zerohedge picked up this piece by Adam Shuster of IllinoisPolicy.org.

https://www.zerohedge.com/news/2018-08-31/illinois-breaks-pension-debt-record-us-states

Short story, Illinois pension liabilities are now 600% of total annual state tax revenues.

Average for a US state is about 100%.

I suspect the upcoming election results will not bode well for the Rahm. It may very well signal the end of his political career. Lets face it, being the former mayor of a very brutal city is not one of the prerequisites for government service that normal people will vote for. . That dogma of never let a good crisis go to waste is rejected by the rest of the world now results and not rhetoric. Talk is cheap, what has Rahm done to make the city a safer place?

Yes, things would be worse with an actual socialist as our Mayor, but hopefully, the three decades long socialist-lite experiment has shown the electorate enough to ensure they will not double-down and make things worse. You are full of crap! It is impossible to have two city pensions. You can have a city pension and be rehired by the city, but you cannot participate in two city pension systems or get two pensions from the same system. He can be on disability from CFD (he had 18 years I read somewhere) and work as an Alderman. By being the Alderman he gets a paycheck, but he is not participating in their pension system. However, you can retire from the city and get a county or state job. In those instances you can participate in their pension system and ultimately have two pensions, but there is no circumstance where you can get two CITY pensions. So cut the bullshit hater!
