Term Limit Proposal
- A preliminary analysis indicates former Gov. Pat Quinn and other supporters of a binding referendum to set term limits on Chicago mayors gathered more than enough valid signatures to place the question on the November ballot.
The Chicago Board of Election Commissioners reported Thursday that its line-by-line examination of petitions circulated by Quinn’s Take Charge Chicago group counted at least 54,995 valid signatures — exceeding the 52,533 minimum required by law.
Quinn’s group submitted a total of 87,355 signatures, but nearly 42,000 of the signatures were challenged on various grounds by objectors aligned with Mayor Rahm Emanuel.
However, the 50 thieves on the City Council are likely to forego placing a risky proposition like this that might actually damage the Machine on the actual ballot. It's still an uphill climb.

City politics at their finest.
Wait until we have an actual socialist as mayor. We will all be begging to get Rahm back.
Lol Rhams people are out to help him keep open the possibility of infinite terms
If the president of the United States is limited to two terms, so should ALL politicians!
Forget Term Limits, how about reducing the number of Aldermen to 20 or 25? Take ALL that money saved and pour it into more police on the street.
I'm ALL for that!
The City Council is mostly a Rubberstamp Approval process anyway. No diverse ideas or innovative perspectives on it.
You can rubberstamp government decisions a LOT faster with only 20 Aldermen compared to 50. Meetings would be shorter too. Less people to stand up and talk. Roll call votes will move a lot quicker.
While they're fucking with state law, why don't they work on rescinding the one that requires Chicago employees to live in the city?
This law will never fly. It opens up too many other doors, like term limits for ALL elected offices in Illinois.
That'll never happen in Madiganistan.
It might be, SCC, but consider that the machine is sick of Rahm. Someone put Quinn up to it, and we can hate him all we want. But my enemies’ enemy is my friend! And to the crackpot Rahm media squad, know this: your days are numbered. Consider that when you are making assanine comments cornering Vallas and Joyce. You people are done. Suck it.
FYI...Quinn anticipated the city’s move to block the referendum from being placed on the Mayoral ballot and head faked them because he is submitting it to included on the 👉Governor’s Ballot👈 instead which takes place in November. If 51% vote Yes, in favor of Mayoral term limits for the City of Chicago then Rham Emmanuel is automatically 👉disqualified👈 from running on the Mayoral ballot in February!!! What a Brilliant move by Pat Quinn!!!!!
Term limits.
Dynasty elimination.
End gerrymandering.
Campaign finance limits.
..... A good start.
Even the potencies of voodoo dolls can't limit the terms the hogs crave to have.
Why, it's almost like these incumbent hogs have sold their souls to the.........
How about this for term limits, first term in office, second term in jail.
Need a term limit for alderthieves too.
The mayor first... you 50 useless jag-bags are next.
You only think you have a voice in Chicago. Your the surfs and don't you forget it. As a penalty there will be higher taxes after next election. STFU and get your check writing pens ready. The community demands more, and rhea Chicago Democratic Machine will deliver.
Term limits are a great idea for Chicago mayors, Illinois governors, and all members of congress from Illinois. If they didn't get theirs in two terms, they're inefficient at promoting themselves.
Quinn’s group submitted a total of 87,355 signatures, but nearly 42,000 of the signatures were challenged on various grounds by objectors aligned with Mayor Rahm Emanuel.
Of course they were because the twerp MURDER mayor planned to use the same 42,000 decedent's names to get him re-elected...
The 50 thieves are the ones I’d like to see with terms limits more than the mayor.
Keep climbing.
Rahmie will slither back to the fifth floor barely winning next years election.
oh but we have no room on the ballot for that.
we do have three important non binding questions to answer.
are you by chance a somebody that became a nobody nobody sent?
take a number and sit there. we will call you when we have time.
Sure, increase the thievery. Do a term in office, get a pension.
I thought Rahm already had three bs referendums set to go on the ballot.
Why not put a referendum on the election ballot to have ONLY 10 aldermen and 10 wards, and to decrease the current 50 aldermen and the 50 wards ???????
Let's not stop at term limits, let's put a referendum on the election ballot to decrease the number of aldermen from 50 to 10, and have ONLY 10 aldermen and 10 wards????? I bet you will NEVER see this as a referendum !!!!!
As much as I despise Pat ("the income tax increase is only temporary") Quinn, I do support and applaud him on this one.
If this is what it takes to derail Rahm, bring it on.
#AnybodyButRahm
Forget it people no getting rid of ali Babba and the 50 thieves.
This could allow Rahm to just walk away saying hey would love to run but I can’t. Easy way out for him. He would not have to suffer the trail and a election he shouldn’t win. It’s a win -win for him. Maybe this is his plan?
I never realized how easy it is to go online at
https://chicagoelections.com/en/vote-by-mail.html
And request a ballot. I usually vote, however, sometimes life gets in the way. Everybody should request to vote via mail. After you put your address in , all the fields self populate. Its just clicking. Matter of fact you can click on all of your family members also, that way everyone can vote together, at home.
How about term limits for all state wide offices? Governor, State Rep (yeah you Madigan), State Senate, Attorney General, et. al..
Pat Quinn, who has had a governmental paycheck for 99% of the last 40+ years, is showing a lot of hubris with this
1:46 am
Thanks. You get it. Too many whiners on here that will complain but won’t drag their asses to the polls in November or cry about this guy or that. This is exactly what we need to get Rahm out.
49 thieves... please don’t lump Napolitano in with with the creatures
48 Thieves.
We have only 2 Aldermen that intelligently and reliably vote against expensive, useless and wasteful Rahm proposals.
The Gang of 48 will see their positions in jeopardy next.
The ethic caucuses have plans for their insurgence in 2023 with a little preview this coming 2019.
Quinn has an uphill climb due to the entrenched corrupt legal system we have.
Rahm should never been allowed to run as a city candidate or be hired for NOT RESIDING in Chicago.
A friggin box in the basement is not Residency when the premise is being Occupied by another renter.
But a loyal appointed justice differed.
If Rahm runs, he will exhaust every campaign cent to do it and it’s not guaranteed he’ll win either.
There’s a lot of other components to Rahm bailing, firstly are those millions in walk away money, second is impending social disorder.
So I feel the community tempered winds pickup, not so much if the referendum leans towards Quinns favor, Rahm is going to wimp out on a “family first” matter and try to save his weak reputation.
Rahm’s team of Resistors are going all out to stall this referendum issue until polling shows otherwise.
Another moment to Thank God Hillary didn’t win.
Vote and Stay Fetal Anyway.
It's funny that Quinn is the one leading the term limit charge. I agree there should be term limits on all politicians, especially aldermen. Corruption is inevitable the longer someone stays in office. I don't trust Quinn one bit though. He's still sore about losing to Rauner. Just another egomaniac trying to stay relevant. Now that Rauner's in office, I wonder if he changed his stance on term limits.
Didn’t Potatohead Quinn disagree with term limits when he was in office? Funny how that work. I seem to remember when Rauner ran against Quinn, Rauner wanted term limits. I do believe he still advocates for term limits, but the bottom feeder career politicians (which Quinn once was before being dumped, again) did not want that going to a vote. Do as I say, not as I do. Seems to be a common theme these days.
SCC,

Short story, Illinois pension liabilities are now 600% of total annual state tax revenues.
Average for a US state is about 100%.

That will never happen. Even if North Korea nuked the city, we will never beg for Emanuel back.
Stop posting stupid shit on here, Adam Collins
Mayor Zorro has gone quite mad with power. He has proclaimed that all first born males in the little village be named after him.
INCLUDING THE PETS!
"Zorro: You recognize that famous sign?
Old Man: Si senior. It is a Two.
Zorro: That is a Z!
Old Man: But in the school, that is how they teach my granddaughter to draw a Two.
Zorro: *I* say it is a *Z* - For El Zorro!

Not sure where you lay your head, but 2 of the Northside Alderman...them being Napolitano in the 41st Ward and Sposato in the 38th Ward are top notch and very pro-police. Maybe your alderman is useless as are most, but don't lump our good guys in with the rest of the misfits in the city council.
Doesn't matter none. This town is on life support already.

The identity or history of the catalyst to get term limits is unimportant. I thank Quinn for his efforts. Should his effort be successful, we will never have to suffer more than an eight year dynasty of a shanks-like character. And, 9.5 has already had his eight. Fuck him!
The mayor first... you 50 useless jag-bags are next.

Yes, yes, yes! Oust 49 of the these 50 pukes and make it 20 with term-limits!
Put Nicholas Sposato of the 38th Ward in the group of 20. He's a good and honest man.
Term limits? Someone should remind Jesse White about term limits. He was only gonna serve two terms you know!

When that moment occurs, unseen, perhaps, but still, this ratio hits 666%, then it shall be done.
I will not be voting for Rahm no matter who he is running against. Rahm needs to just go away.
As much as I despise Pat ("the income tax increase is only temporary") Quinn, I do support and applaud him on this one.

Which begs the question, why now?
This town needs an enema!

The only problem with voting by mail is trusting the USPS to deliver the completed ballot.
Chicago does not need 50 aldermen. Why not let the people vote to decrease the aldermen to 10. Let's get a referendum on the ballot!!!!
I suspect the upcoming election results will not bode well for the Rahm. It may very well signal the end of his political career. Lets face it, being the former mayor of a very brutal city is not one of the prerequisites for government service that normal people will vote for. . That dogma of never let a good crisis go to waste is rejected by the rest of the world now results and not rhetoric. Talk is cheap, what has Rahm done to make the city a safer place?
"Put Nicholas Sposato of the 38th Ward in the group of 20. He's a good and honest man." Now collecting two pensions Chicago citizens can't afford.

Oops! Forgot Anthony Napolitano of the 41st Ward. He is a good and honest man; the same as Nicholas Sposato. The other 48 need to go!
Wait until we have an actual socialist as mayor. We will all be begging to get Rahm back.

TD 9.5 is a progressive activist; which is a socialist-lite version. We've had same since 1989 without interruption. Twenty-nine years is long enough! Yes, things would be worse with an actual socialist as our Mayor, but hopefully, the three decades long socialist-lite experiment has shown the electorate enough to ensure they will not double-down and make things worse. We need a conservative as Mayor! Oust all DemocRATS! MAGA Baby!

You are full of crap! It is impossible to have two city pensions. You can have a city pension and be rehired by the city, but you cannot participate in two city pension systems or get two pensions from the same system. He can be on disability from CFD (he had 18 years I read somewhere) and work as an Alderman. By being the Alderman he gets a paycheck, but he is not participating in their pension system. However, you can retire from the city and get a county or state job. In those instances you can participate in their pension system and ultimately have two pensions, but there is no circumstance where you can get two CITY pensions. So cut the bullshit hater!

1. A rose by any name whatsoever is still a rose.
2. A thief, by any means possible, is still a thief.
3. There is only one "political philosophy/ideology" at constant war with MAGA, it's name is Greed, aka Graft, aka, Power to Impose Tax, aka, 1776 Redcoat Rascals......
4. Using the language of mumbo jumbo to expose mumbo jumbo is more mumbo jumbo.
5. There are only two perspectives: Earn or Steal. MAGA is the former, all else is the latter.
6. Darwn's Survival of the Fittest equation holds true no matter which one chooses, Earn or Steal, thus, we choose and live as we have chosen. Until we die.
7. MAGA or Greed: Choose.
