Runoff Election

A lot of blame being laid out over the election. Remember, the Machine doesn't like to leave anything to chance - there were 14 candidates because the Machine wanted 14 candidates. Each was targeted at a certain bloc of voters and primed to divide up an increasingly fractured electorate.

And so, Chicago is left with cat-lady Prickwrinkle and Lightfoot. Prickwrinkle is a career Machine politico who has been in government longer than we've been alive (and we aren't exactly young) and Lightfoot is a Machine creation from way back, holding all sorts of jobs and never actually accomplishing anything at any of them.

The question becomes who will do the least damage to the city and the department. This is the biggest issue at the moment and Lightfoot is making the correct noises:

That doesn't make us more or less likely to vote for her - we remember her at OPS and she was baseline incompetent then. She is the sole reason OPS was turned into IPRA and then turned into COPA as some sort of "social justice" agency that doesn't exist to find fact - it exists to second-guess police with the full benefit of hindsight and deliberate misinterpretation of the law.

Everyone needs to pay close attention these coming weeks. Don't rely on us and certainly don't rely on our comment sections - we weed out what we can, but there are trolls sowing misinformation all the time.

Daley lost because he didn’t convince the voters he was the guy! I voted against him because he said he was for opening the State Constitution. I voted for Willy Wilson because he was for lower taxes, believed I earned my pension and he seems to be fair.

I will vote for Lorri Lightfoot because she is the lesser of the to evils.

Tax Queen needs to be jobless!

White voter 11 Ward! Race keeps being a part of the media voting criteria and it shouldn’t be! That’s why we are in this mess!

This is the only small glimmer of hope I found in Lighfoot. She appears to understand how important the city workers earned and guaranteed pension is. Don’t remember any candidate saying what she did. She’s also not as openly racist as Preckwinkle and is married to a Caucasian. Preckwinkle is just the same Chicago machine politician. Don’t trust Preckwinkle. Either one will destroy policing but I’m kinda use to it already. Going to vote for Lightfoot. Save the pension. PS...Don’t vote for Pawar for treasurer. He’s bad for the pension.

There really is no choice to be made. With Lori Lightfoot we have a chance for sanity. A chance mind you. With Preckwinkle, there is no hope. The CTU is for Preckwinkle and both hate us. If that does not tell you to vote for Lightfoot, I do not know what more can guide you. Lightfoot, before it's too late. (Retreaded from 1983)

Lightfoot is an avid supporter of marijuana and of getting a casino in Chicago. She also knows and wants to fund all the city's pensions, and she is not opposed to making that kind "entertainment" money to do so. She said many time she does not support new taxes for any reason. She is adamant on that, no new taxes, but yeah, we know how that goes. Although she has a big heart for low income minority families, and yes, she will play the race card when she needs to...for herself and for others. But she knows extra taxes can affect everyone, and her bleeding heart liberalism won't let her tax the poor minorities and undocumented persons.

Lightfoot does not HATE the police, nor is she fond of the police. She thinks most of CPD is racist and covers up most incidents. Sorry, but the second part is true, and we have got to get her to see that its the exempt rank that is doing the cover up, not the blue shirts, because that is a well known fact. She also thinks CPD lacks training, which is also true. Hopefully she will honor that and provide monies for much needed training.

There are some pros and many cons with Lightfoot, but in the long run, she is a better risk than Preckwinkle.

Got to wonder if she will do the girl power thing and make history by making Staples the supt.

I’m ok with the depolicing that will come with a Lighfoot or Preckwinkle. It’s already been going on for years and I already kinda planned on it getting worse(if that’s possible). It’s been penciled in on my calendar for the last few years of my career. However, I feel Lighfoot is the lesser of two evils for the future of our family’s financial well-being. The pension is the single most important issue to the city workers. Lightfoot is also not the same old scumbag politician that we’ve been stuck with for 30 years. I think Lighfoot will have a much better relationship with the police department and FOP than Preckwinkle. Preckwinkle seems like more of a hater. Also a great taxer.

To this identity politics driven culture, Lightfoot has a leg up. She’s black AND she’s gay. She’s going to get the sympathy vote from many of the sheeple. People’s conscious’s will make them feel guilty if they DON’T vote for her. So we better get used to her as mayor. Let’s hope she takes a class or two on how to run a city in the next couple of months. God help us.

- This summary could apply to MANY of the 14 candidates that ran in the Mayoral election as well as those with "Merit" promotions at CPD. Typical in a City run by Clout.

Maybe the Runoff Election will turn into a big cat fight and a lot of skeletons will be revealed on BOTH sides - another typical result in a City run by clout.

All it takes is a heater

A girl x case
Andre crawford (serial killer killing prostitute)
Bradley sister (never found)
And the current laquan lost tape/ bad camera angles.

Prickwrinkle could barely hand the case of her driver losing her crashed county vehicle.
LITE-foots pretty much destroyed OPS with her clownish ideas of keeping people like her brother out of prison.

Shout out to my North side Brother who got rid of ass hat ARENA. Keep in mind ARENA still control abot a million dollars of menu money to fix up that ward!!! he may go out in a blaze of glory spending it.

But take my word that Lightfoot is way over her head ( no joke )
When she was brought in to OPS it only took days for officers to realize
Why she was there. I have witnessed her loosing her cool over investigations

When she is told NO she walks off and dreams up new ways to comeback
even harder at the situation. None of this was successful.

This is why she started several jobs but never found out how to work in them.
Then left until another job opened up.
Also look at her private practice in law? Nothing to write home about.

She talks up a story but has no follow thru.

I like my retirement but she is not the best choice.

I’m the city of Chicago, any self respecting person who is angered by the election and says “I’m not voting in the run-off, this is bullshit” is effectively casting a ballot for Preckwinkle.

We’re in a bad spot brothers and sisters, but in my own humble opinion- we simply cannot walk down the Preckwinkle path.

I hope that police officers, retired and active alike, don't shoot themselves in the foot by ripping Lightfoot apart too much. She is far from perfect but she is far and away a better choice than Preckwinkle. Preckwinkle must never be allowed to walk through the doors of the Mayor's Office.

This blog consistently and constantly ripped Anita Alvarez apart. And while she is far from perfect, now we have Kim Foxx. Sorta reminds me of my parents voices when I was a kid and they would say "stop crying or I'll give you something to cry about". Well we have something real to cry about now in Kim Foxx and we don't need the final nail in the coffin with Preckwinkle.

The fact is that white liberals elected Toni and lightfoot. Look at their base in the map that was put out. It’s majority white liberal areas. The black communities on the south and west sides overwhelmingly voted Willie. Any asshole blaming coppers for actually voting for the best person available for them is an idiot. It’s not our job to vote for the lesser of the evils, you vote for the best one available for you just like the white liberal progressives did. There were 14 candidates and 3 were pro police and even that’s questionable. Joyce, Vallas and McCarthy. Joyce finished ahead of Vallas, mccarthy, Fioretti, Kozlar. THOSE are the assholes that could have dropped out because the majority of those votes would have gone to Joyce. He was the leader in votes amongst that crew. He also beat Chico but I imagine if he had dropped out those would have went to Mendoza. What really should be looked at is the issue of race. The ONLY race of people that went against their own candidates was the white race by voting lightfoot and Preckwinkle. Blacks all voted for Willie and the majority of the Hispanic areas were Mendoza with SE side going to Chico. Soooooo when people talk racism it appears it’s actually everyone but white people who are racist. To anyone saying we screwed our chance to get Daley in, I say ohhh fucking well. A Daley created this mess and I’m not sorry he’s not there. Yeah we’re stuck with 2 shitty candidates but Daley would have fucked us too. Wake up.

Preckwinkle's interview on WBEZ yesterday morning: her #1 spending priority is "MORE MONEY FOR SCHOOLS". Yes, absolutely pandering to her #1 constituency: incompetent, slothful school teachers who demand "job protection", no matter how horrible their job-performance, and compensation disproportionate to the value of their work-product (ACT 18 scores for most of Chicago CPS grads is not worthy of cheery recognition!).

Preckwinkle's 2nd and 3rd spending priorities were phrased as "more community development" and "more subsidies to small businesses", which is MORE PANDERING to constituencies, this being reverends' real estate projects and storefront nail salons/convenience stores. Try to imagine a Streeterville or Lincoln Park resident trying to obtain one of these grants.

Preckwinkle's 4th priorities was phrased as "rebuilding community trust in police", ignoring the Big Elephant Issue of CRIME, petty crime and violent crime sky-rocketing rates here in Murder City. Nope, she beats the drum of "lack of trust" in cops, again pandering to the BLM SJW crowd.

WBEZ's reporters, surprisingly, didn't let Preckwinkle's omission of "crime" and "financial woes" go unremarked. They pressed her with a couple out-of-character tougher questions.
Preckwinkle ducked and dodged, refusing to respond beyond "I've reduced population of our jails", so clearly isn't concerned about these nonetheless super-critical issues, both severely impacting future of Chicago. Preckwinkle, in one interview, confirmed for me that she's NOT A LEADER WILLING TO TACKLE TOUGH PROBLEMS, and only panders to her base: CPS Teachers, some Hyde Parkers, and County employees appointed to their jobs.

Yeah, I think it's going to be ugly. But I don't think Preckwinkle can campaign effectively, because she's always run against guys stupider than her.

Lightfoot reminds me of former Daley Chief of Staff, "Queen Bee" Julia Stasch, lots of expressed "do-gooder" intentions, moderately SJW tendencies, think they're smarter than most folks, so incapable of "suffering fools and assholes" - meaning ultimately ineffective, so get boxed-out by clouted folks innately stupider but tougher to combat than milk-toast academic-types. Both creatures of Machine, allowed to function and flourish by Machine, but delude themselves into thinking they're "independent" of Machine. Nope, just another tool of said Machine.

All this doom I gloom, "I'm moving that is it, F-this city, the city is sinking," blathering on and on. Recently retired from CPD when Harold was elected mayor the same was said "this city is going to change rapidly,Im moving out that is it," the same old rhetoric and nonsense! Take a good look massive corporations are relocating to Chicago downtown areas and other areas. look at all the boom cranes downtown, union jobs are they just parked there? People are spending huge amounts of money to live there,The university of Chicago hospital just put up a big addition,Northwestern is constantly expanding.

When Harold was elected that was when I joined CPD, he called for hiring and I was hired, like many of us were, Harold turned out to be a decent mayor, i was there when he came out to the southwest side the Mayfield banquet hall a polish event and an older polish lady asked him if he could dance a polka, and you know what he did it, that man had charisma, I was working in 007 he came to an event there,it was cold out there was this "rookie," me standing on that corner when Harold's limo pulled up, Harold got out I and came up to me and shook my hand and asked me how was everything, I said "cold," he smiled and said why don't you come inside the event and get something warm to drink.

Is Lori the best, of course not but what candidate was the "best,?" No standouts, but if Lori is for taking care of the earned pension of police officers and she cannot be bought will definitely vote for her. To give Toni who has been in politics her entire life and accomplished nothing worth remembering, and she is a huge part of that dirty swamp we will never get a fair chance, with Lori she has the background of dealing with law enforcement and God willing will be decent to the police and the law abiding people/folks! No matter what God bless the hard working Chicago police officers, and note to Lori to help clean out the exempt rank hacks for a start this is needed desperately, and then work to be sure crook county does the job at states attorneys office and Lori being former federal prosecutor she knows when the bullshit is being said by them.

Doesn't matter who gets in now or in the future as far as pensions are concerned, there are going to be pension changes, can't be avoided.
The question is, who is going to get the shaft most?
Friend just retired as school superintendent of a small grade school district in western suburbs at age 59, will collect nearly $200k per year plus health the rest of her life!
She'd been superintendent maybe 8yrs, taking over for the last who retired early, and handing off to the next, who will retire early, because they won't earn anymore working than they will in retirement at age 59. Not only is this wrong, its unsustainable.
My friends husband will also retire from the school district at the end of the year at 59. Between the 2 of them they will earn $300k per year in retirement. While I don't begrudge them for taking what the system has given, this is clearly excessive. This is happening across the state, in all government agencies. Not to mention all the no show jobs across the city and state that have been handed to political appointees.
So, decide for yourself how this will end and choose wisely, because, its going to end.

LGBTQIA+ mixed with communist idealogy mixed with voter fatigue mixed with corruption has won. Go to mass, fast for lent, prepare for the worst, and do your best to survive.

We here in this lovely city, delightful county and glorious state, have precisely the political hogs governments that we are accustomed to.

Our governing rulers reflect our own natures.

We all, with few exceptions, are just as they are.

We like the one hand washes the other.

We want the clout edge.

We enjoy the drama of conflict.

We savor the flavor of tribal contest.

We are the example for all others of like mind and taste for discord seek to emulate.

We are what we oppose.

Hence, the pretending that we are not.

Thus, even on this least dishonest of all blogs, the illusion of honest competition in this current election was maintained, and is being maintained, as if the divide and conquer methods are not inherently dependent upon the vigorous application of the delusion that each has an absolute duty to vote their own mind.

The oft labeled "machine" is us. All of us cogs.

So, we dance as puppets on strings we fancy we control. By holding dearly to the false concept that anything we each choose is, by itself, of any effective value but to the hogs.

We take a celebration shit to honor the ousting of a few pittance, pesky, putz alderfucks and pretend that this will alter anything of significance.

We bleat and bloviate, bitch and blather, piss and moan and groan and wet our panties.

To what result?

Not a fucking thing will change for the better.

We get what we earn.

And this is what we have earned.

Sad.

This is going to be interesting if Lorrie Lightfoot becomes the next major. When she was the head of OPS she was HATED AND I MEAN HATED. Let me explain the reasons why. She had this attitude that she was better than anyone else. She was VERY DIFFICULT TO DEAL WITH ESPECIALLY WITH THE FEMALE BLACKS WORKING THERE. She looked down on many of them because of her status of being an attorney. She constantly criticized the work of the investigators especially the females in the office. She treated some of the Male Whites much better than the rest of the investigators. In fact to this day, she is still in contact with one of them. She was extremely lazy. She left most of the heavy lifting to her deputies and supervisors. She promoted several black supervisors who were out and out raciest There were two female supervisors she promoted that were also gay who did not deserve the promotions. One of the issues many of the investigators had with her was she would show up late, have extended lunches, and leave early. When she was not on the computer she was reading the newspapers. AS far as the charge she was behind framing Police Officers that might not have been the case. It was several of her supervisors that were behind it. Now don't get me wrong there were some real bullshit investigations but it were her supervisors who wanted sustained cases so they could show how "Competent they were". I honestly don't think she schemed and went out of her way to frame Police Officers, some of her supervisors and investigators yes, but not her. When she left the office there was a party celebrating her leaving. It should be interesting how she governs the city if she wins. If her tenure at OPS is any indication, we are SCREWED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is not the police department of the 50s or 60s. We make up the general population. Being in criminal justice she knows that if our pensions get f%$=/#@ with we will remain on the job and watch the city burn. It is an unfortunate fact. She works with us and we work with her. Not sure she was “all by the book”. Federal judge Posner had a problem with her

Lightfoot would have been the first woman and first African American to head the Northern District of Illinois, but a former Obama administration official familiar with the U.S. attorney selection at the time told POLITICO that the White House grew skittish of her confirmation chances due to a U.S. 7th Circuit Court of Appeals opinion that ruled Lightfoot, while a federal prosecutor, had made a misleading statement to the court in a case involving the extradition of a fugitive. The 2000 opinion, penned by then-appeals court judge Richard Posner, reprimanded Lightfoot for her role in the case

At least Lightfoot considers both sides and then makes a decision. Preckwinkle will never consider anything that does not fit the socialist progressive agenda. Plus, Lightfoot's life path, experience and education far outdistance the same of Preckwinkle. Lightfoot represents the future. Preckwinkle is the past.

Lips moving lies coming out. Face the fact that there is no fix for pension problem. They can’t borrow the problem away and can’t tax the problem away. Gold Coast is to smart to be taxed community pays no taxes and according to map on SCC middle class is about gone in city. So just who do you think will bail you out, state is in worse shape and Feds let Detroit file bankruptcy. Janna the Hut had enough to get himself elected but not enough to even pay the interest on all state debt. Get out early take what you can and start over in another Red state. At least you will have your dignity and maybe even sanity. The CPD job will rob you of both.

Your pensions along with CFD and teachers will become smoke in the wind when city burns.

No good can come. It never will.
Crime and punishment for such will never come.
Welfare state will never be diminished as well, only expanded.

Don’t be fooled - Pensions will not be reformed and No Constitutional change will ever pass the public vote.
Taxing pension is more likely but that won’t need a ConCon and it will ire plenty when/if it happens.
Teachers across the State, esp. CTU will not tolerate pension meandering or increased contributions, nor will labor unions.
That alone translates into thousands of Democrat votes. Down state teacher unions/federations/pension plans don’t like CTU and the deals they’ve been getting, they don’t want consolidation either, which was part of the reform plan.

We (PABF) are a small dot on the entire State pension payout map. But the Dems like only to point to the (greedy) Police, the ones working 24/7/365 subject to the most undesirable conditions and always with the possibility of serious injury.
So it’s a moot point to,bring up regards to who to vote for.

I’ll never vote for tax-spend-no jail Prickwrinkle and those who support here (kmmmfxxxx2020).
Looks like Luring LightLoafer for me.

They’re using it to prove cars are down in the station too long and not up and clear timely. Cars not hitting the street directly after roll call. If they have issues with these things, why don’t they just call the cmdr and let him know and handle it? Why do they need to surprise a Lt in front of the whole command staff with things and embarrass him/her. Just not a good idea. What kind of leadership book tells you that’s the right thing to do? Been talking to many people and zero for taxing swampy Toni, the rest everyone for Lightfoot. Make sure you vote like your pension depends on it which it definitely does, as far as the "sky is falling," we are moving out,and the rest according to pension board we have over 10,000 yes 10,000 retirees residing in Illinois the vast majority in Chicago, so to the doom coppers stop spreading such false vitriol and rumors. Harold Washington was elected for mayor and the same type of talk (maybe it was your fathers), look if you feel that cheap degree can get you a better job move, the housing stock on northwest, southwest side has more buyers than sellers. The coppers in the academy and the firefighters in their academy are looking for a good home, so if your ready wish you well enjoy your life may God bless you on your journey to better lives!

Oh and forgot when your alone in that place, trying to make new friends, trying to find a new doctor you can always come back, heck truthfully 10 people in my neighborhood Garfield Ridge that moved are now back, bet it's the same in Mount Greenwood and the Jefferson park area. Lori Lightfoot might have maxed out her voting base. As much as Toni comes across like a wicked witch she does have an established power base.

LL will not garner much support in wards that can't accept her lifestyle or her past employment. Notice in her acceptance speech (her largest audience to date) making a sympathetic reference to her brother's criminal past.

I do agree that LL would actually be better for CPD but don't kid yourself, the fractured machine will still quietly work (self preservation) on TP's behalf.

Turnout will again be low which also increases Preckwinkle's chances.

Lift residency are you Kidding? City will never do that unless court ordered rdred. Simple fact is if they let city workers move out there would be 40,000-50,000 tax payers leaving within 2 years. The few remaining good neighborhoods would collapse, Housing values would fall quickly. The real problem would be the loss of $400,000,000 -600,000,000 in tax revenues. No way they negotiate the end of residency with out a law suit. FOP are you listening. But, and do it is a big but, you better be careful what you wish for. The problems I outlined would also force city into an immediate bankruptcy situation. Remember what happened to promised pensions when Detroit filed bankruptcy. Hint, the pensions did not increase. Still want to lift residency rule? Tread lightly my friend.

There is not a person currently employed by the CPD that has the necessary qualifications to be the new Super. The merit hacks infest the CPD at all levels including the highest offices. 2hat you need is a good old fashioned clean sweep of ALL MERIT HACKS. Give then one chance to pass test for current rank, pass the test keep the rank, fail test back to previous rank with same requirements pass that new test of be busted. Two busts and you fired. Lori Lightfoot pledging to protect the pensions remind me of Old Harold Washington going out to campaign at the Copernicus Center. He did a pretty fair polka, dancing around the floor with a Polish lady, laughing all the way. He enjoyed doing it because he knew it had to be done.
It was a campaign.

Just the opposite is true.
When you vote you give up your right to speak because you voted for them to speak for you.

Lightfoot vs Bigfoot: pros and Cons
Bigfoot
Pros
She's not Rahm
Cons
Hates the police
socialist
pro tax
Machine hack
released thousands of criminals back into the city and county
fires her male staffers at the drop of a hat including Ernie Brown
connected with crooked Ed Burke , Joe Berrios, and the crooked Cook County machine
Spawned Chuey Garcia
panders to caters to teachers union
Brags about sandbagging VanDyke
buddies with Obama and Clinton
Lightfoot
Cons
OPS head- a very bad organization
Chairman Police Board- approved firing of lots of cops for nonsense
Socialist progressive bent

Pros
Actually protected some cops from unjustified termination and discipline
former staff at OPS hates her
Hates Rahm- quit working for him
Pro-police pension
Faced the beast and unruly thuggish crowds during some police board hearings
ex federal prosecutor
Beneficiary of machine, but apart from it
know the law
As a black gay woman, will have nationwide support from all three of those groups and the politicians pandering to them, making LOCAL political pressure against her largely ineffective
And that's what you have to choose from

Lori Lightfoot apparently said she used to run the OEMC. Not true. She was the in house counsel and therefore represented OEMC/the City's interest. She claims this gives her experience "dealing" with unions. That's true if dealing with means fighting against. Having personally met her and been around her and seen how she dealt with us lowly employees I cannot in good conscience vote for her.

You are a total idiot. Submitting it twice does not make it so. I was there, too. She had near nothing to do with the "lowly employees" as you called them. Her responsibilities were more on a corporate level as a vice-president. You must be thinking of the labor relations person. That is the person whom had the most contact with employees and the unions. If you vote for Toni, you will have shot yourself in the foot. Don't be a dope. Or, are you Toni's relative?

There is no way pensions are getting fixed. People are leaving. You can't draw blood from a stone. Any more tax increases and the only ones left will be welfare recipients and pensioners who haven't moved for Florida yet. No one wants to cut spending for anything else so it's looking more and more like a death spiral. Weed won't save you. Casinos won't save you. There's too many overpromises not just with pensioners but with everyone on the dole. Even noncitizens are getting money and more arrive by the minute.

Comstat is a disaster. Theyre trying to jackpot the Lt’s now. Remember when they sold us the bill of goods about GPS being for our “safety?” Well, not anymore. Praise in public, critique in private.... not at comstat.

2/28/2019 05:37:00 PM

Ok tough guy! How about I give you two years as Chief of Detectives? What is the clearance rate going to be? 75-80%? We have a State's Attorney who makes every single arrest for homicide a "Continuing Investigation" with bullshit excuses! (Well the video that shows the offender shooting the victim to death in cold blood, ALSO shows a CTA bus driving past at the time of occurrence, so I need you detectives to locate every passenger that may have been on that bus and interview them to see what they saw, before I can approve murder). The clearance rate has nothing to do with Staples. It has a lot to do with Kim Fox. You could do a lot worse than Staples as Superintendent. She always has backed up the police and will bend over backwards to take care of police (dogs or not) if they have personal issues (health, etc.), so just relax Francis.

Why does the commander have to be called? He/she should and is aware of the problem. Most if not all districts have the cars that hang around the desk looking for lunch runs, headquarter runs, anything to stay off the streets.

Staples might be "good people" but a misrible executive. I have lost count of how many years of less than 20% homicide clearance rates. The job requires a smart ball buster not a good person. No more merit for any reason. Want to get ahead in CPD study and pass the test.

All you Daley dfucks need to realize its 2019, not 1969. The city you loved is gone. You know what people remember about a Daley as mayor? Street parking being sold for a fraction of its value, a city in crisis, pensions on life support, etc.

Add to that the fact Billy didnt have the balls to get in the race until Rahm was already out: he had no chance. But you keep holding on to the thought the city could somehow be saved by the same family that sucked every drop of blood they could.

I don't recall others talking these things up before. Of course people didn't think she would be in the runoff then either. If you recall Wilson didn't want to hire more cops. Look at real estate tax amounts for North Side condominiums, and you'll see plenty of properties assessed beyond their MLS sale-listing price. It's weird, but symptomatic of our "tax and spend" politicians to talk about "more spending for the people" when the proverbial well is nearly dry. If it costs me $10,000/year in real-estate taxes for my empty-nester condo, no kids, no need for schools, no decent library or genuine police street-presence in my Streeterville (excl Michigan Ave itself) neighborhood, where only investigated street-crime is Smollett's fake mugging, then what remaining incentive do I/we have to remaining here in Chicago, facing such an extremely high-tax burden (capped SALT deduction)??

In a number of recent business meetings I've attended, conversation inevitably turns to topic of "moving out of Illinois". Haven't run into a high-worth guy yet who plans on remaining in Chicago, in Illinois post-retirement. This is a real issue. Not only has middle-class residency been severely curtailed and diminished in Chicago, but the wealthy folks don't want to stay here anymore. When your 60+ year-old wife gets her eye-socket smashed by a group of wilding black teens on a 5 pm summer Saturday afternoon in front of Walgreens on Illinois, you really lose your faith in your home city.

I'm concerned that neither of these SJW candidates has the fortitude and interest to tackle the serious issues facing Chicago: pervasive political corruption, dire financial problems of City of Chicago, and global perception that street-crime is out-of-control in our "Murder Capital" city. Nope, Preckwinkle's stated top priority is "more money for schools". Can't vote for that Taxwinkle; guess it's Lightfoot after all.

I remember when Lemmer was a Captain in 023 and would write up his own Top Ten Half sheets of individuals he wanted stopped and CC’s done on. I used to tell him that what you are doing could be looked at as targeting or profiling w/o due cause or articulable suspicion. You know if Pookie gets stopped 10-15 times in a night and its documented, that is a pattern and could be a problem down the road. I was of coursed dismissed as a lowely Sergeant which was fine because I never encouraged anyone to do his bidding. Of course it’s because of him and others that we are in the situation we are in regarding street stops.
I also remember when Lemmer, the smartest and most qualified person on the CPD, (just ask him or wait, he will tell you he is), got all the foot guys to write To/Froms to give up their contactual rights regarding the 2 hr start time. Well MLAS got involved and told him you can’t do that. Lemmer also would make his own Watch Forms complete with date and revision # in the lower left corner. These forms were Mission forms of his own making that the coppers would have to fill out, the Sgt.s would have to sign and the Lt.s would have to sign and log onto another form (inventory/control form) and place it in a file. If the Lt.s didn’t do it he would threaten them with being SPARED. He was always threatening to SPAR someone or dump them off their car. I remember he literally had 8-10 coppers assigned to a Rapid Wagon. He is a total control freak, micromanaging egotistical, never been the police bureaucrat. I remember him saying that the promotion process on the Chicago Police Department is the most legitimate promotion process in law enforcement today. That says it all.

So glad you said that about Grau. Especially the part about being a back stabbing jagoff. That he is. He is also a scaredy cat and always has been. A do nothing cop. Cline only hooked on to Grau to have a "friend" who was hispanic. Just like he hooked onto Maria Maher to cover the female quota. Both were morons, but that did not bother Cline. Alligators?
A self-solving problem if you don't fuck around
where they're prone to be and exercise abundant caution.

Hurricanes?
Don't build/live on low lying places near oceans,
and get your ass out of the way when they blow through.

Hillbillies?
Some of the most wonderful and helpful, Golden Rule
abiding folks you'd ever want to meet.

Besides... They might be tho only ones who can lend
you a hand when you're ass-deep in 'gators and a
storm surge is carrying your house-on-wheels out to sea
and you're clinging to the antenna on the roof and
screaming like a little girl...

Maybe a hillbilly would tell you
that you suck as you float by.

Sarcasm.
Silliness.

as to all the folks saying lesser candidates should have dropped out and let daley win i have a different take. jayne bryne was a sitting mayor and a women. a fluke at the time due to the citys snow response but a sitting mayor none the less. the first real power house black candidate harold was running. i was working at robert taylor on election day and it was truly a white vs black election. i never saw a larger black turn out until obamas election. shortshanks was the spoiler. he had no business running but like hillary thought he was ordained and it was his turn. he split the vote and gave us harold. those years were one big party, everyone ran wild on the cities dime. people forget harold died in office, i truly believe he would have driven the city into bancruptcy during multiple terms. ha was fun but not fiscally sound. fast forward to chrome dome ss 3, instead of everyone bowing out and letting the heir apparent sweep into the daley wing of city haul, i see him as the spoiler that destroyed any chance of chicago having a sane responsible govt. fucking daleys, the gift that keeps on giving. the white vote hopelessly splintered we are faced with an unknown entity and an old angry racist machine hack. and im sure if toni baloney gets in it will be business as usual with some daley allies and relatives getting their cut of a dwindling pie. its like the 5 mob families in new york, doesnt matter who the boss is everyone earns and gets a cut and kicks some upstairs while the host slowly dies the death of a thousand cuts. i truly hates me some daleys, fuckin retards!

C'on...out of 14 candidates, Mrs Soda Tax and Mrs LGBQ were the two best candidates ? Chicago voters apparently are not very smart.

The choices both suck. But I'm looking at another angle of this too, age. Preckwinkle is 71 and might want to hang it up after a term. Lightfoot is younger at 56, and would be nearly impossible to oust four years from now.

I'm lucky to have retired, but not too sure I want to flee to the land of alligators, hurricanes and hillbillies.

Unless she developed significant health problems I'd expect pompous, power mad Toni to stay in the mayor spot as long as she could. Both are terrible choices and both have their agendas. But Toni would be even worse than the other one. Both would like to see Chicago be Portland or SF. I'd want to have a plan to get out before it's gets more like the left coast.

This election was more proof that the 1965 immigration act has been responsible for all this insanity.

These two 'winners' wasn't possible in our history.

Too many candidates ran just to raise money and they knew they never had a chance. That’s what screwed this up. Or those who ran, want something in return. Like Joyce who wants a job with one of the two, Goofioretti who wants anything, GMAC who wants janitorial contracts, Vallas whobwants the school job, amara who wants a city job so she can pay her taxes.... and on and on. Too bad all these fringe idiots didn’t get their petitions challenged. But the biggest spoiler ahole is Joyce. He never had a chance. The sad part is Wilson marbles mouth will be the king maker.

Please quit making excuses for Staples she is an abject failure. Great boas because he accepts failure from her charges. Zero accountability.

Tough guy says couldn't get to 70-80% but I could get to 40%. First order would be firing your lazy excuse giving pass. After enough heads tolling in first 60 days bet those left would be working harder and getting better results. What is lacking in Detective Division is accountability. Staples should have been gone two years ago. Stop defending her and get her some positive results if you really value her leadership. Be part of solution and not part of problem. Results are what matter not how nice you are to work for. Remember the old saying when the going gets tough the tough get going. Good thing you weren't in command during WWII we would all be speaking German now.

Unsure of the formal process, but regardless, the answer is John Daley. The default answer is Brigid Gainer. No doubt.

It was not the electorate. It was the 14 huge egos in the race.

This election would have been best solved by ranked-choice voting (RCV) as is practiced in Minneapolis. With RCV, there are no run-offs.
