"A Lot More Evidence"
- Chicago police Superintendent Eddie Johnson on Monday batted down media reports that the thousands of dollars “Empire” actor Jussie Smollett paid two brothers was actually for personal training and nutrition, not for staging a phony racist and anti-gay attack against him as authorities allege.
Citing unnamed sources, entertainment website TMZ reported over the weekend that a $3,500 check was for the brothers’ help in getting Smollett more physically fit for the filming of a music video.
But in an interview on “Good Morning America” that aired Monday morning, Johnson stuck by police claims that the money was for the brothers’ help in orchestrating the attack early in the morning on Jan. 29.
“They said that he paid them $3,500 with a check,” Johnson told co-host Robin Roberts.
“But did they say what it was for?” Roberts asked.
“Yeah, to carry out this incident,” Johnson replied.
You can already see the media laying the groundwork for Smollet's defense - CPD is incompetent and interpreted all the "evidence" in the worst light possible (as predicted here.)

At some point this evidence has to be turned over to Defense Counsel. We guess it's being held back as leverage, possibly for a plea deal down the road. But until that time, expect to see more of this "CPD incompetent, Friends of Trump" bullshit reporting from the coastal media outlets.

It strikes me as odd that GMA would at first interview
Smollett, then turn around and have Ed on the same
show. These interviews don't just happen, they are
planned by program directors. And all they think about
is ratings. I can understand Smollett, but Ed? Sounds
like someone has an agenda. They're "creating" the
news. Ed should never have gone on that show.
WTF does a chief need to be on TV for? And who
approved it? That's where I think the set-up is.
Seems like they knew Ed did not write his own
statement in the presser. They wanted him on live
to catch him off guard. Remember all the folks who
recused themselves. I think the Smollett people and
the City are working on a strategy to let J.S. walk, and
are using Ed as a pawn. This has heavy Federal standing
so why did not GMA go for the Postal Inspectors? They
were ruled out by the show and would never be given
permission to play in this circus. Things are decided at
TRIAL, not on GMA.

Robin Roberts is a discredited journalist who peddled the story as true. She is a goof. But the New York media moguls give her the power to be a boss. Only ignorant people watch her as a source of news. We all know you cannot fix stupid. Which brings me to a point. God only knows what a Cook Count jury will do with this case. The truth can be inadmissible at Daley Center and the guilty can go free. The trial will be the unknown factor that is the next chapter.
Well, “CPD incompetence” describes Johnson’s handling of this story from the get go. He shouldn’t have made such a spectacle of it that he did. He shouldn’t have leaked out pieces of the story like he did (and then blamed someone “other than CPD” leaking it out). He shouldn’t have let Guglielmi say the idiotic things he said. Johnson shouldn’t have said all he did in the press conference. CPD IS incompetent if you take all this into consideration because it’s led by incompetent leaders. This is going to bite everyone in the ass just when Johnson was starting to get cocky.
My question is why is the Chief talking about the details to the media at all? Why not just say we (the PD) had done our job and have presented our evidence; now it's a matter for the court? Having this tongue-tied spokesman appear on GMA can only undermine the case - how will you find a jury that has not been exposed to this presumption of guilt 24/7 on the news, this case already tried in public and by the Chief?

So the $3,500.00 check was for personal training. The check that was written a couple of days prior to the "attack." Question was there any personal training done after the attack? Suspicious that he would pay them and then they immediately leave the country. Well after they went to a store bought "stick up masks" and a red baseball cap and were caught on video in the area when Smellit said the attack occurred. Seriously people need to choose their battles and this one is a looser. wait until the real cell phone records are released, think there may be some interesting text messages?
A little off topic but I thought some might find this interesting. Talked to a guy today who just retired as a recruiter for the USMC. He was stationed in Detroit but his then girlfriend now wife lived here. When he retired he moved here to be with her. Said Chicago is FAR worse than Detroit is. Said Detroit has been making a comeback for a few years and going in the right direction while Chicago is going in the wrong direction and becoming worse by the day. He says he felt safer in the Detroit than he does here and is not sure if he should move to the burbs or move back to Detroit as he thinks what's happening to Chicago will eventually engulf the rest of the State. He's going to wait and see what happens with the Mayoral election but if it's Preckwinkle he's out of here tomorrow.

Granted I have less than 10 years on the job but I thought Superintendent Eddie Johnson did a terrific job on Good Morning America. He had a command of the facts, he exemplified executive leadership, and he made me feel proud to be a Chicago Police Officer. I have thought about leaving the job to be a FED but I won’t. Instead I’m going to attend graduate school and study hard to make sergeant and master everything there is to know about the Patrol Bureau! As a result I’m bidding out of 16 and going south to Englewood to join classmates who are the working police. Those guys know how to do every report on the job and frequently get multiple part one arrests on a quarterly basis.

I have new respect for Johnson after that press conference. But, he had to bring up race and the fact that he is a black man living in Chicago. Presumably the guy that wrote the check knows about the check already so there's no tipping off involved. If they come up with a plausible excuse today, it's going to be really hard to change it down the road so they are stuck with whatever plausible reason they came up with today.

Should any episode resemble the fiasco caused by the Empire Liar he will surely be able file a legitimate court lawsuit based on copyright infringement! He is set for life and simply has to wait for any television/movie plot is created! Damn, he might not be as dumb as YOU believe!
