The carbine is going to be pulled from service come 01 July 2019. Only SWAT will still use them.
How many rifle homicides last year - including the pistol-type carbines? How many shootings in 008, 009, 010, 011, 015 involved rifles last year? The newspapers ran a whole series of articles on it when they were pushing the left's anti-gun agenda.

I’m begging you officers to please take your safety into consideration first and foremost when responding to ALL jobs. Take your time, think carefully, act as if you will be judged by a jury of 12 who do not like you. In essence, do the minimum required by law and back up your fellow officers. Period.

This actually made me gasp out loud while all alone at home.
If it is true, that carbines will be taken away; whomever came up with that policy is a fool. A lot of research and effort went into developing the policy that allowed officers in the patrol division to carry rifles. And that Policy, under Weiss was ahead of its time. Today, policy nationwide, has been changed from the days of waiting until SWAT arrives; to encouraging the first responding officer(s) to engage the active shooter. Parkland Florida is an example of what happens when police wait for back-up. In some cases active shooters have been armed with rifles. (The Sandy Hook Massacre for example, Aurora Colorado, etc.) It is unrealistic to expect an officer armed only with a handgun to engage someone with a shotgun, AR-15, or other high capacity rifle. SWAT, which is currently going through major internal strife may take a half of an hour to arrive on a scene. Yes, in a hostage situation it would be wise to wait for SWAT and Negotiators. However, in an Active Shooter situation SWAT will not be the first officer(s) on the scene. Taking away rifles from District Personnel is dangerous to officers and the public. Whomever came up with this terrible idea needs to be identified by name, so that he/she can be held personally accountable for the lives that may be lost as a result of this absurd policy. An alternative would be to train specific officers in each district and on each Watch to have rifle capability. In that way, there would always be rifle armed officers to respond to active shooter situations. And in the event that the situation required more officer; neighboring districts, with the same trained and armed officers could be immediately deployed to the situation. The Restorative Justice Whores have already taken away police discretion, now they want to disarm you! This is not England. In Chicago, Police must be better armed than criminals, unless the "Real" and ultimate intent is that the criminals win! Baby "G"

Strange. On many many forces a AR style carbine is carried in every vehicle. It is almost as standard equipment as a pistol.
This department is a fucking joke
The carbine training is a joke. Half the rifles were covered in dust and the ammo was old. The rifle locks in the cars never functioned properly. Most of the officers that took them out were laughed at for having a Rambo complex. It took me 3 years to finally get the training but it was hard to get any range time for practice to keep sharp. I like so many others purchased my own Colt rifle, wow wee what a waste of $1300! Its collecting dust in my locker as I type this cause my new unit at HQ does not have rifle locks in the squad cars.
Will be selling it cheap $600 with ammo, scope, carry bag & 5 mags in October when I pull the plug. A good olde ruger mini-14 is all you need.

One last thing, I was trained with the shotgun back in 1992. I have never had any further training since. Do we even training new officers with the shotgun anymore?

I was military police and a new BSB commander (think mayor and city manager for a base in Germany) got the bright idea we would have to file a report every time we unholstered. Use computer templates to submit reports for checking on the magazine (we also did safety) after wrestling with someone to cuff them, bumping into car door or getting caught in seat belt. Soon they will get tired of reviewing and signing them.

Rush nowhere, if a call comes out, go to it, park 1 block away with lights and sirens on, proceed after about 1-2 minutes, give it time to de-escalate. Give them what they want.

The only change is that the consent decree is now in effect and the reforms in it will start happening. The firearm pointing order takes effect 1 July. It specifically says you don't have to report for drawing the gun or holding it at low ready.

Heaven forbid the police be allowed the same firepower as the criminals. Never thought I'd see the day when we have to hide or delay our response because the bad guys are better armed than we are. When seconds count, SWAT is only an hour away.

Year ago the department put shotgun racks in the front seat of marked cars . The best way to offset overpaying for a rifle is by selling it cheap. Since it sounds like you haven't been to much training, I'll save you a little off the learning curve. Everyone who arrives with a Ruger Mini-14, trades it for an Ar-15 if ones available. I've seen people sell their Ruger and buy Ar's at longer classes. And as far as the shotgun... I've been qualified twice a year for years. If you want to stay at HQ and get shotgun qualified, get in the FOIA unit. They're the Spec Ops warriors of 35th and Michigan.
As none police.
It put the citizens in jeopardy even more by allowing criminals to run rampant and putting the brakes on police.
They just want you stay fetal! So given what they want.

No, CPD took shotguns away decades ago. SWAT, sure they have there place and its a tool but not the only option. Modern and IMHO correct active shooter doctrine is to go in and stop the threat immediately.
Hate to sound like a broken record but: I remind everyone, again, about Shotgun Murphy (G-d rest his soul) of 007. His unauthorized shotgun, in the trunk, stopped numerous incidents when he upped that gun and racked one in to the chamber, it was Loud and worked. Many times saw the aholes flee like roaches in the light. LOL. It worked miracles. BTW, also saw him use said shotgun against shitbirds holding a hostage and against "badass" lol, stick up aholes. RIP Herb!!! Ah, the good old days.

Because:
1. Police are not allowed to kill them.
2. Citizens who are not criminals do not kill them.
3. Everybody has family. Especially criminals. Family votes count. Political power corrupts.
4. Citizens can just take a licking and keep on ticking. And they do.
5. Criminals, having families, breed prolifically. Thus, cps budget depends upon the progeny of criminals to live until, (snicker!!!), high school graduation. When, if they do, indeed live, they become voters. And breeders, if not already having become so while (snicker!!!!) attending cps classes.
6. Criminal enterprises contribute to political coffers. Oh, yes, yes they do.
7. The politics/politicians here have much in common with the criminals. I am not suggesting genetically, but, you do the math.

All this investment in Hunchlab bullshit instead of investment in the officers and equiptment that is in poor condition and out dated. There haven't been shotguns in the district's for YEARS, and when there were, ONLY the Tact. Teams were allowed to sign them out, with the rare authorization of the "WATCH COMMANDER " ( yeah , I went Retro), and ONLY when they were executing a search warrant.
The Mass Crowd Dispersal / Pepper Spray devices that once were in the W.C's Office were disposed of too.
( Maybe they're in the bowls of the notorious CPD / Homan Black Site" gathering dust? )
Most P.O.'s were only allowed to touch a shotgun ONCE, while they were in the Academy, and NEVER again.
If there is any question as to the NEED for at LEAST, TWO carbine qualified vehicles, on the street, per watch in each district, look at the video of the North Hollywood Bank Shootout in 1997.
Twenty wounded,( 12 officers, and EIGHT CIVILIANS ) in twenty minutes.
Some officers never recovered, and were permanently disabled.
Lives were saved because DESPITE their being woefully OUT GUNNED, even WITH shotguns, which proved ineffective.
Officers continued to engage, and saved countless lives,UNTIL the offenders were stopped by officers with carbines.
The offenders modified, homemade body armor actually withstood hits from several 5.56 rounds, until they were stopped with by the same 5.56 rifles!

I withstood the crap at rollcall by fellow officers calling me Rambo and other B.S.
Listening to them initially saying how if the SHTF that they were going to call me.
I told them that when that happens, it's already too late,your probably dead, and just don't know it.
These same guys would later, individually seek me out, and try to pick my brain about buying their own.
I told them the same thing , that I told them about the IFAK Class.
Even if you don't buy one, at least take the training.
It could save your life.
Since I joined the Department my goal has never changed.
Never to look for trouble, but be prepared in the unfortunate eventuality that it FINDS me.
Years ago I said that eventually, the city would take away our gun, give us water pistols , filled with dye, and chain a video camera to our wrist, so that we could video, and mark our killers, so that the judges could give them a good scolding when they asked them to come to court.

Carbines should’ve been pulled from service long. There are too many new officers paired up, with 2 1/2 years on the job... running to noise disturbance calls ; armed with carbines. There is simply no guidance in patrol.

This department has gone down the toilet a long time ago. Only going deeper.

Unless they just want us to sit outside and wait 20-30 mins for SWAT operators.

Ummm.... That rifle platform ain’t so much easier to shoot than a pistol ok there chief. You still have to use some technique and focus. It’s much more cumbersome and harder to adjust a rifle when you’re wearing a heavy vest full of shit hanging on it. It ain’t no John Wayne flipping his 30/30 Winchester whilst on his horse move. And btw just because it’s acitve shooter doesn’t mean bad guy automatically has a rifle. Mercy and other incidents bad guy had pistol. So you don’t just sit there outside waiting for swat. You go in and do something to help save lives in whatever capacity you can whether you have a rifle, pistol or slingshot.
