I heard Area South Detectives showed up late to court. Their excuse was “Area South doesn’t have enough vehicles for on duty working Detectives.” These guys said they took an Uber to court rather then drive their own vehicles.
This department is mismanaged so badly it’s laughable. Not enough vehicles is only the beginning. How about our “CHRIS” system that has software that’s over ten years old. How about computers that don’t have programs to run downloaded video recovered from scenes. How about the fact that they never should’ve closed two, Areas 4/5. CPD has realized this a huge mistake an attempted to reopen these offices only to be shut down by the bean counters downtown.
As usual the Detectives are being blamed for low clearance rates when all the above has a lot to do with it. This in addition to a CCSAO that works against the CPD not with them.
My prediction is it’s only going to get worse because downtown isn’t handing funds out for equipment, new office space or additional personnel. And Kim Foxx probably isn’t going anywhere. Carry on...

Can some of you use your heads a bit? A huge reason for the low clearance rate is the states attorneys office. If youve ever had to attempt to get a case charged you would know how they do everything they can to not charge. That’s especially true with violent crimes and most of all with homicides. The state has taken it upon themselves, thanks to Kimmy, to be the judge and jury prior to charging anything. It’s their pathetic attempt to keep their conviction rate high at the expense of good police work.
The detectives and everyone else involved in the cases do everything they can to present the case and it’s up to the state from there. Let’s also not forget the lack of cooperation from the good citizen and witnesses who are refusing to do the right thing, more so now then ever.

CPD closed Area Four Detective Offices several years ago. Area Four is located at Harrison and Kedzie and shares that location with the 011Th District. The same district that year after year has had more murders then any other district in the city. How can anyone justify closing Area Four and worked out well for the community.

Because, if I remember correctly, the big drop off in street work happened when the ACLU deal was brokered by Rham and G-Mac, leaving detectives with not only their investigative work to do, but also, most of the work of identifying who hangs out where and does what, because I recall a murder I worked, I approached 003rd District tac and asked, hey....who the fuck hangs out on the xxxx block of xxxxxxxx, guess what? The cargo pants kids shrugged their shoulders and said, yeah that block is pretty quiet. Mind you, I go over there a month after the homicide and not one street stop had been done on that block since this guy got killed. In a month. They continued to process their TVB and thought nothing of it. Don’t worry though, we detectives got the job done, with zero help from warriors such as yourself, and zero help from the community, either. So you’re totally right. Who needs us to actually solve crimes when we got you to wear your super cool police clothes and fuck with the last few taxpayers left in each district, write blue cards and process TVB’s? You have no clue what this job actually entails, likely because you suck at YOUR job to begin with. You got nothin’ kid!

To be fair, could it be better? Yes. As a department we don’t work together, street work is no longer being done, and zero help from community members leaves the D unit to do everything with zero help. Also, cleared cases from the year in which reports haven’t been approved yet are not included in the stats.

Just the terminology the CLEAR (Citizen Law Enforcement Analysis and Reporting) system uses,
True = Arrested and charged with the commission of an offense.
False = no arrest, no charges.

No Area South Dets take Ubers. Everyone assigned a beat has a car. What a fucking lie. What some of the dogs attempt to do is suggest they take their own car. Why? Because the court date will be quick and the remaining 7-8 hrs of the tour will be theirs. Well, that’s how it was until recently and now the dogs are crying because they are being held accountable.

I'm not the OP but boy did you miss the point. Back in the day there were street cops who knew all the players, what they drove, where the they stayed, who they hung with, even what they wore. Kept the Dics from having to start from scratch all the time. We don't see that too often anymore.

So you think a “tactical” officer shouldn’t be aware of a gang conflict in his area or know a few dope boys on the block?? Is that to much to ask of someone who is supposed to be out there interacting more frequently with the gangbangers then just a beat cop? And even beat cops have interactions with them right. So let’s see a beat officer gets assigned a shooting completes the report, tact looks at case report maybe some witness said offender had a particular team Jersey on. Now tact guy been stopping “rey “rey” with same jersey on 2 weeks ago. Boom! “Rey rey” might have done it or know something right? Now tact guy goes about his day when a dectecive arrives a few days later and asks about a shooting.?? Hey the one beat cop says I did the report but those guys on tact might have some info to pass along to you. So does that seem like a reasonable idea. But the reality is like the original poster said the tactical twits will be doing tvbs and blue cards then promptly putting their heads down in their phones posting on face book!
