Twenty One Arrests
- Here we go again!
Chicago police on Monday said 21 people were arrested Saturday around the River North and Magnificent Mile neighborhoods in the first “mob” activity of 2019. The high arrest count is the result of a new, less-tolerant approach by police assigned to handle "large group" incidents in the downtown area.
Police said several groups, comprised mostly of juveniles, were given “direct orders” to disperse from the downtown area on Saturday after causing disturbances by disrupting traffic and fighting, a CPD spokesperson said.
Individuals who failed to disperse were taken into custody, according to the department. A CPD source said one arrestee was only 11-years-old and a 15-year-old girl was arrested for trying to punch a police officer.

Disgraceful. Police should be far more aggressive around these bars and restaurants that serve Alcohol, like they are around areas of drug and gang activity. So get busy again protecting us like you used to do, and start stopping these drivers with vehicle equipment violations and check them out. Why should I have to have 2 License Plates, Vehicle Sticker, Car Indurance, etc. when so many others drive for years unstopped, with no License Plate, expired Licenses, speeding, and driving buzzed on booze regularly? This is bullshit, and people are fed up. All responsible Police Agency supervisors and Town Officials should regularly check the Alcohol and Traffic Enforcement related activities of their Officers, and they should be stationed near bars in busy areas, while between assignment calls, watching for overserved bar patrons who drink for hours tgen get right into their cars and drive. Local NBC evening news ran a story on this last night, including a video that showed 2 "yutes" beating a store security guard on North Michigan Ave until he pulled a gun and they ran. You can arrest all you want, but what good does it do if no prosecutions????
There is no way in the world I would risk my finances arresting one of these jokers acting out on the public way. Lawsuit would be tough to fight in today’s anti police climate.
If the Tribune and Sun Times had any actual journalists left, they would feel ashamed at the "reporting" they are doing. I applaud the effort but I don't see how anything changes unless there are consequences to lawlessness. Even if the police manage to arrest a couple offenders, what does it matter if they are let back on the street without even a slap on the wrist.
On a related note, I spend a lot of time in this area and have heard store employees complain that the curfew has created a spillover effect. Place like 900 Shops will become the new Water Tower unless there is an area-wide curfew enacted.
Too bad that the elected officials care more about protecting criminals than the law abiding citizens. This will only accelerate the flight out of Chicago and will impact tourism. Even though I live close enough to spend time in this area and I avoid it out of fear for my family. Especially as summer approaches it is all too common to see mobs of "kids" converging on the area and fighting has become all too regular of an occurrence. It's only a matter of time before people start getting shot right in the heart of downtown.

Well 0858, did you think that maybe the suburban guys are getting blown off in their enforcement too? Do you really think this is a CPD problem only...? 5th District don't even enforce 6-101's or 6-303's anymore unless the suspension / revocation is for DUI or Hit and Run PI. Other than that, they get nolle'd. Same thing goes for your run of the mill traffic enforcement. Agg. Speeders always get reduced to just basic speeding, if someone gets hit with lane violations, registration BS, insurance, etc, the cases are always plead down and most dropped. If the cops write "local" tickets, people cry and say "it's just for revenue generation." If they write state tickets, they mostly fall flat. They also couldn't give a hoot about DUI's. I was a big DUI guy and I'm to the point where I don't care any more. Unless someone blows or you get a chemical test that proves it, they will NEVER get a conviction in 5th District. I've had cases where I had great video of driving, admission of drinking, god awful FST's on video but because the guy didn't blow, "you can't prove beyond a reasonable doubt that they were intoxicated" and they win.
Point is, everyone in this county is sick of the court system. No one is held accountable and pretty much don't care either. Just go to court, get your OT and go home.

Most ticketed for dogs on the beach are white. Lol everyone breaking rules gets appropriate smack down. Plus everyone supports the police.
Further, during summer nights, The community members pile many to a car and drive up to suburbs. They open the car doors and flee to steal and break whatever isn't nailed down. Stupid rules dont permit police to car chases even at 2 am. The criminal animals know it and are often escorted out of each town back to the city. The stolen cars, etc., are always found in the same shittcago neighborhood. The community members case the areas first to determine if the whites will challenge them. They also use the internet to find homes. They're just looking to win the ghetto lottery.
They all think rules only apply to those they can intimidate.
Arm up law abiders, regularly visit the shootimg range, wire up your homes with cameras, and pray hard. With HUD and pending forced affordable housing, its all getting spread everywhere. Write the President.
Not looking forward to the Long hot summer in hellinois.
Can't wait to flee this freak show state. Why should i work hard and pay for some freeloader to move in next door with all their stink and theft. I'm absolutely not a racist. But I'm absolutely excellent at pattern and behavior spotting. These are not well behaved rule followers. They hate you because they hate success.

ISP Road Dog for 10 years here. I worked Central Illinois for 9.
Wrote thousands of tickets and the judges in Centrall Illinois
hammered everyone. Came to District Chicago a year ago, and everyone who I wrote tickets
to get off. 45 mph over, “Slow down sir!” Case dismissed.

It’s terrible here. Crime pays under this incompetent and corrupt justice system. It’s best to try to avoid going to court.

I am on the fence on this. On the one hand people should be punished, of course. On the other hand I see the Cook Co. system as being so clogged with the dregs of society I can understand how they let everything slide.
