New Gang Tactic

Frankly, with the advent of "breakaway" poles, we're surprised this hasn't happened earlier....and more often:

Supposedly, gangs in the area of 45th and Hermitage used a stolen car to take down a light pole that happened to have a Pod Camera and Shotspotter and Plate Reader technology on aboard. They know any break in coverage gives them an opportunity to make some money or shoot someone and who knows how much it costs to tie up a city crew to replace the pole and then reset/repair or replace all the tech stuff, which can't be cheap because (A) it's electronics and (B) some connected contract has to be fulfilled via some aldercreature's nephew.

It is a wonder that it took them this long, but a three-banger (POD, ShotSpotter, License Plate Reader) on their first time out is 3,000 points! But, minus 500 points for the destruction of the stolen auto leaves them with a grand total of 2500 points from their first time playing the Pole Down game. More Pole Down to follow.

Lol...

Seeing that picture reminded us of the savages out of
the late and unlamented 340 S. Western building...

How they would send a shorty up the light pole to
cock the traffic signals so that in the resulting
eventual crash, they would swarm the wreckage and
rob the injured, dying and dead motorists/passengers.

It happened at other locations but 340 was epicenter
in a nasty cluster of those incidents.

Shit heads being shit heads...

It would've been hysterical if somehow, those cameras
were mounted topside of an old CSL trolley pole and
those assholes crashed their sled into it trying to
knock it down...

>Front of a ghetto sled split in half to the firewall
Engine knocked clean off the mounts and driven the
passenger compartment... Still running... Spewing hot
oil everywhere... Every asshole in said sled that ain't
dead/wadded-up/blown through the rear bulkhead into the
trunk cuz they sawzalled the fuck out of the bulkhead
for them aftermarket speakers, are doing their level
best trying to duck hot oil and flying metal while
shoving doors that are impact-welded shut in a bid
to get out before the whole works go-the-fuck-up
with them still in it<

Being a Policeman is fun sometimes.

You get to see the aftermath of self-inflicted,
thunderously stupid shit...

Like the still occupied sled wadded-up at the bottom
of the counter-weight pit of a bridge where some
geniuses tried to "Dukes of Hazzard" one of Chicago's
inland waterways while the bridge was being re-built.

Bent-all-to-hell rebar and crickets...

You could use Jersey Barriers in high risk locations.
This is a variation of the old smash & grab burglaries
going back to the 70s. At first, hammers and crow bars
broke the glass. One independent pharmacy owner
fortified his storefront only to have the actors use a
dump truck to breach entry. Goal was always the same:
grab drugs & merchandise then jet. No time for a safe
job.
You're going to see more of these. Chicago can't be the
first place. Since camera companies & ShotSpotter are
nationwide, legal action is in order, because I guarantee
they have seen this before, yet sold you the systems
anyway. It's called discovery. They knew a way the
system could be defeated but they failed to disclose it
upon sale. That's fraud.

Can't help but notice basketball playoffs: the hoop
is right where it should be, but it's connected to a
Cherry picker Star Wars type vehicle parked about
30 feet back. Ther's no more single straight-up
poles with padding anymore.
A new design is in order for certain intersections
prone to defeat by using "burner" cars & trucks
to serve as rams.
I say the ShotSpotter and camera companies eat
the repair cost because of faulty design (easily
defeated). Cities were sold the Brooklyn Bridge when
they purchased these systems, only they didn't know it
at the time.

It's the old jail maxim: jails are designed to keep
people inside; not designed to keep people from
breaking in.
This is a design flaw. It may take class action
attorneys to win this for Chicago and other cities.
Chinese & British very big on camera surveillance.
Funny, they don't have this problem.

The City screwed up. It never should have allowed the CPD put all that hardware on a twenty foot aluminum pole. Too much weight. The aluminum pole should be replaced with a steel pole. Only common sense, something City Hall and 35th Street lack.

I watched in amazement as an 11 year old boy slowly shook an old steel pole by just getting it rocking, (oscillating) until the arm on top broke off and hung by the wires. You don't have to be big, just patient. You get it rocking and just slightly assist it, like pushing someone in a swing, going higher and higher until pop.

Situation room officers filed a safety grievance today. They are truly scared and fear for their safety in the workplace. In their grievance they are seeking airliner cockpit security doors for their rooms. A permanent armed actual police officer would be assigned to the situation rooms providing a police presence. They have a legitimate fear for their safety from the street gangs invading and migrating into their batcaves.

They have a point. If the gangs are targeting the sophisticated surveillance equipment in low level operations, what makes you think they won't target a high-tech nerve center trophy with assigned real-sophisticated human assets.

10 strikes misdemeanor DUI or just clownin’?
Did the District in-house camera watchers take a day and a half to notice it?
Did the bloated News Af’flairs indicate that the Area was investigating and no one is in custody?
Did City crews come out promptly to secure the scene, erected a new pole, spliced the wires, tested and reset the apparatuses within the hour?

What about the new gang tactic practiced at City Hall today Laurie won a two day delay of the vote to spend over $2 billion of taxpayers money freely given away to the ultra rich multi billionaire developers who are friends of the mayors and his friends friends of the alderman this is going to be interesting because Wednesday will be another vote will Laurie be in the backseat of the car or will she be in the front seat the mayor and everyone else need to get paid off before they are done the taxpayers be damned Laurie are you going to show us what a leader you are or will you show us That you are taken the backseat you would look in the rearview mirror well they are looking out the windshield this is going to be a travesty if this passes! Time to make a phone calls to your federal partners at 219 S. Dearborn St. they are ready to go just give them the word let’s have a massive indictments brought it in to City Hall and over to the County building you could be the nucleus deck and finish taking care of the problems you will be respected forever if you do this! If you do nothing you’re so you’re just like the old boys club you will just be like Tony and her crew the same exact thing do nothing for the people!

Time to go back to the light poles that will bisect a car.

As to the red/speed camera request, use a burning tire like they do in Europe. There are other methods but burning tire is the most dramatic. The yellow vests last I heard and destroyed or disabled nearly all the enforcement cameras in France.

Hey senior citizen, at your age try working one three-police-period rotation backwards of midnights-afternoons-days accompanied by rotating days off on the 6 and 2 schedule with 2 weekends off of every 6 weekends and you would not be so nostalgic. But, working the 4 to 4's and the watch parties were fun.

Yobs in the UK know nothing will happen to them anyway so why bother to break the cams. Rather than concentrate on crime, drugs and homelessness in Hull, UK their MP introduced a bill to make wolf whistling at females illegal and a hate crime. Kids routinely break bus windows with bricks and are never caught. Often people are injured from these attacks. The elderly and weak are targeted by cowardly gangs of chavs but if they are caught they get no real punishment at all. So why bother with the cameras. One area in Hull is getting a few new cameras but that won't deter these young thugs because the criminal justice system in the UK is a joke. And they waste their manpower acting like the social media thought police hassling people if they share something that might offend the protected classes(i.e. Muslims). https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/break-ins-batterings-gangs-crime-12074454
