Monumental Patience

Another release of body cam footage and once again, the police did everything humanly possible:
  • Videos released Friday by the Civilian Office of Police Accountability show the tense negotiations between Chicago police officers and a bipolar man before they fatally shot him during a standoff earlier this year inside a Woodlawn home.

The police oversight agency released six videos and seven audio clips from the May 22 encounter that ended in Myles Frazier’s death in the 1300 block of East 61st Street. A man called police about 10:15 a.m. to report that his son, who had bipolar disorder, was armed and distraught, [spokes-weasel] said at a news conference after the shooting. He asked for police to help.

Officers arrived and tried negotiating with Frazier, 22, who was barricaded inside a second-floor bedroom, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office. Police body cameras captured their hourlong negotiation, during which an officer assures Frazier he’s not going to jail.
A hour of negotiations, while the subject was doing what?
  • At one point, an officer says, “Nobody’s gonna die today,” to which Frazier replies, “Really?” before firing a shot. Later, from the bedroom, a crying Frazier tells them about the death of his daughter, and an officer opens up about his late grandmother, video shows.

Tension escalates about 30 minutes in as Frazier fires more shots. “Myles, don’t point the gun at nobody else!” an officer yells.

Frazier fired at least five shots, Valdez said. Some of those shots went outside the house.
This offender is firing numerous shots out the window, each capable of wounding or killing officers, passersby, neighbors. And the officers still tried to talk him down. There ought to be a medal just for the patience exhibited on scene.

The outcome was dictated by the guy shooting the gun out the window.

This is foolishness. I don't care what mental disorder a suspect has, this waiting for this fool to shoot 5 rounds off is going to get one of us maimed or dead.

Control of the situation has been lost, and it aint coming back. The only way left is through evictions. Other cities through the bums out when they misbehave, and it's not done based on a reasonable doubt, just a preponderance of the evidence. Is there evidence that someone is committing crimes on government property? Evict them. That makes them the County's problem. All we need now is a real Sheriff and some poorly trained dogs and pow, control.

I wasn’t there but the narrative does not sound good in the police’s favor for letting him fire so many shots out a window. What if those shots had hit someone? Can’t win.

Family will sue, and win. We called the police for help, and they killed him. Why couldn't they just shoot him in the leg, or taser him? It wasn't his fault, he had mental problems.

Let’s cut the crap,

How much is the city going to pay the family for shooting this guy?
I worked a wagon for over 10 years and have seen suicide by cop before.

And each time this happens the city cuts the family of the suicide victim and check if the police fired any weapons?
Just look it up they are all city records of payouts.
Officer has no choice but to defend himself or others and city then pays off the lottery!

And there is no confidence in body camera video protecting you on duty. City can still try to fire you!
Mark my words!

patience is a virtue! location, location, location: University Of Chicago Behavioral Health counselor should have been summon on the scene to assist SWAT in their negotiations!

That Psych offender would have received the mental health treatment he so desperately needed on the date, time, and location in the City of Chicago, County of Cook, State of Illinois.

It's so simple. You listen to the officer. It's the attitude. No respect for any authority. They don't listen to parents (cops are called for domestic violence,) don't listen to teachers (security in schools,) and now they are 20-30-40 years old and NO DISCIPLINE! NOTHING! Now, the cop comes along and they're the heavy! The media has an agenda. This is over & over & over & over! Religious who've tried to re-define God's word. I can't look at fools like Jackson, Flaker, Sharpton and say these are men of God!

Anyone who is "violated by police" has broken a law. As funny as it sounds (maybe,)
I was stopped by a local sheriff, concerning my dog relieving herself in a county park. The officers were polite. I got the poop-bag out of the car and disposed of it. There is a county ordinance. I didn't lip off. I didn't act foolish (roll my eyes, etc.) I did what I was told. The officers didn't even wait to watch me do as I was told (which surprised me!)

Again, while most people are/seem to be good, you deal with the crap/garbage most would never do, but all are experts on your job! The press, rerunds, etc. BS!

NOT ILLINOIS. NOT LAW.

The public wants Hollywood policing. The kind where we talk them down off the ledge or shoot the gun out of their hand.
Movie police always get it right. After all their policing can always merit another take if something goes wrong. Nobody gets hurt in Hollywood😊

I just hope there's always a camera working and I religiously check to ensure all my shit functions at work cause, fuck me right? Oye, hat's off to CPD, from your brother down south.

The cops did the best they could under the circumstances. It's pretty hard to reason with somebody who's not rational. Better training might help but that is no guarantee either.

Since the 1960s the active amount of THC in marijuana
has gone up from about 3% to well over 9% today.
The brain is not fully developed until age 25.
Given the fact that kids get on grass in the teenage years,
this does not bode well for the developing brain. THC causes
narrowing of the very fine small blood vessels within the brain,
a condition frequently associated with Alzheimer's disease.
So he may have not been truly bi-polar after all. Only an autopsy
of the brain can reveal this.
The officer did everything in his power to diffuse the situation.
Sadly, Uncle Bag-A-Bones is gone at age 22. Poverty.

From what I observed on these videos, these officers did an outstanding job. You can't predict the outcome of these incidents. These officers, did their best to navigate the situation to a non-deadly outcome. When the offender decided otherwise, they did their sworn duty to protect the citizens. They did not shy away from their sworn duty, even knowing in today's political climate, it may be used against them. Thank God we have men and women of Law Enforcement that are not afraid to protect us all.

But why didn't the police have someone standing outside the window with a riot shield, on a CFD ladder, so the bullets couldn't go out the window?? He could have reached around the shield with one of those bean bag shotguns instead of killing him..... [\sarcasm]

This will play out completely differently in civil court.

A biased Civilian agency gets first permissions to release BWC video?
This protocol serves no purpose other than allowing attorneys and arm chair community activists to judge and call the what-ifs.

Ok, so how about it - JB Pigster’s new expensive money grab gun dealer licensing law, maybe an annual $500 FOID card, maybe a 364 day cooling off period would have prevented this? Or are we to assume a lack of Indiana gun laws are responsible again?

How long was it before COPA released the video to the family’s impatient attorney?
Well before the media got it and before CPD was informed, that’s for sure.

Could have been a lot worse for the First Responders just driving right up to the front of the house.
God Bless the Police.

If a crazy man cannot fire off his gun in all directions in Chicago... Where can he shoot it recklessly?

7/21/2019 02:35:00 PM

Solution: Comply with Police instructions. Drop the gun and surrender. Positive results for all concerned. The results are just as assured as if you don't follow their instructions. Negative results for all concerned. If you suffer mental illness (bipolar or not) in a similar situation you will find that life is unforgiving. No one with common sense will risk their lives in these situations needlessly. Especially in Murder City.

I have to say I’m actually a little appalled that they let this idiot shoot out the window five times before they put a full stop to his crazy. This isn’t rural Wyoming, folks - there are a LOT of people downrange! Any one of those bullets could have hurt or killed an innocent person (although, in that neighborhood, it might be less likely that an “innocent” person is hit).

This is what the current idiocy about police shootings has gotten us - the entire neighborhood put at risk in order to avoid doing what needed to be done (and was eventually done, anyway). In fact, who knows but one of the seemingly random shootings that day wasn’t the result of one of this man’s wayward bullets.

Who the duck ever promoted this slow ride that minimum
wage was enough to start a family on? 60s/70s: 2 bucks was 2
bucks. You lived at home with your family until you could find
something better. It was a wage for those without skills or
getting skills thru schooling.
You are not entitled to be an uneducated/unskilled fuck, get
a chick pregnant, then expect a government handout to make
ends meet.
So live in your Democratic pot haze. But the best path to
success involves study, training, and many hours of effort
(in addition to keeping your dick in your pants).

On a larger topic sure to hurt us all: Congress is
plotting to get its hands on the estimated $24 Trillion
of IRA assets. Experts say they will tax away about
$18T. If this were the sixteenth century (1700s) there
would be a tax revolution in America.
Fuck baseball, f. football, f. this Amazon commercialism.

You can go ten deep with all black bosses in the hierarchy of city government and it wouldn't make a difference. It's never been about racism. It's all about PROGRESSIVISM, redistribution of your wealth and institutionalized socialism in another Democratic run city. This is how you politically control populations. All under the banner of reform and social justice.

Welcome to the "New Normal" where the aggrieved peoples an' folkses
who make up "Tha' Communerty," their liberal democrat Alinskyite
masters, their propagandist local media allies along with their
ACLU aiders/abettors have DEMANDED that The Police not be so swift
to aggressively and proactively invoke the alarm of public order,
public peace, public safety and perform/execute their sworn duty to
intervene/assert control over such situations when an angst-ridden
and deeply afflicted community member is expressing him/her self
by means of a dangerous/deadly weapon.

Madame Mayor and the reeking/leaking anal-whore COPA Cabal are
DESPERATE to over-write this sworn duty with as much feel-good
guardian/caretaker/hand-holder/hiney-wiper bullshit as to render
actual Policing null and void in Chicago.

You can bet a Fat Man on his best Friday, that had this "Moon Screamer"
shot some "poor innocent bystander" while "expressing himself," the
victim family lawyer would be dancing out of Madame Mayor's office
with a seven figure check and COPA will have publicly lynched every
on-scene officer from "Tha' Communerty" hanging tree as per their
mission and mandate.

Police Like You Have No Friends.

Look.
Point & Laugh.
Leave.

Know that they hate and revile
you and your families and want
to reduce you and yours to being
considered as "less than" because
YOU wear a blue suit of clothes
with a STAR pinned to your chest.

...It's the "new normal" that THEY wanted.

Harden your hearts...

Ignore their frantic, high-pitched,
desperate and hateful screams of:
"Somebody HELP US!"

Protect yourselves from THEM.

No matter what.

No "RACISM."
Maybe SOME disdain, hatred and revulsion.

ALL ABOUT POLICE SURVIVAL!

Nothing wrong with that.

Is it?

Other than a "thought crime" against "the narrative."

"How DARE you mere public servants harbor such
horrid thoughts in the face of FINALLY being
reformed and held accountable!"

Governments should really stop sending police officers to deal with mental health crises. Unarmed emergency psychologists should be hired to deal with them since they are all misunderstood harmless victims. Cap any lawsuit recovery to whatever liability insurance you can find.

The guy in the Steelers shirt, what was his problem? Yelling and screaming about how he had this. Walking back and forth in front of the staircase where the guy was with a gun, shooting. Then let's the dad out in front of the same staircase, after telling the dad to go upstairs to verify the guy had a gun. What if the guy had shot the dad. Wow, just wow. That needs to no where near any crime scene. I've seen some stupid shit before, but wow. And the shit he said on video. Wow.
