CCSPD Officer Killed
- An off-duty Cook County sheriff’s police officer was killed in a crash while helping a driver who got stuck on a bridge Sunday in Morris, about 25 miles southwest of Joliet.
Officer Ronald Prohaska pulled over about 4 p.m. to help a motorist whose vehicle had stalled on the southbound incline of the Division Street Bridge over the Illinois River in Morris, according to a statement from Morris police.
A third southbound vehicle hit the stalled vehicle while Prohaska was working on the engine compartment, police said. All three vehicles “sustained major crash and fire damage.”
Multiple people were taken from the scene to Morris Hospital, according to police. Prohaska was airlifted to Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove, where he died from his injuries.
Deepest condolences to his family and co-workers.

Deepest Condolences to his family, friends and colleagues.
Even off duty, he was trying to help his fellow citizens.
No good deed goes unpunished.
Very sorry for this great loss. Prayers for the Officer, his family, and all who loved him.
Rest in Peace Our Brother
Angels in Heaven
Rest now brother, we’ll take the line from here. May God bless and keep your family safe
Rest In Peace
So, so sad. Thank you officer for your dedicated service, RIP.
God Bless the Police.
Always always on-duty.
Distracted driving perhaps and soon JB legal weed will add even more havoc to the already messed up Illinois roads.
By all accounts he was a good and decent man.
May his daughters always know their Dad was a hero.
Deepest condolences to his family, friends and colleagues.
Thank you all for the kind wishes.
Ron was a great Policeman. He worked for me in Rolling Meadows District some years back. A tremendous, easy to lead Cop, all day long. If I had 6-7 others just like Ron on the watch, I should have to pay to go to work.
He loved his kids more than life. Apparently he was still semi-conscious when EMS got there and he told them to look after his kids first.
Ron cared for his fellow man so much so, that he even donated organs and skin tissue so that others can live and be healed.
The guys in Fugitive Warrants, his partners one and all are simply devastated. If you guys are over by 937 N. Wood Street or by Maybrook for court or to go shoot on our range (well, we used to host you guys some time ago), stop in and check on our guys. The Sheriff's Police Fugitive guys are the best. They handle all sorts of complicated extraditions and pick up some real dangerous people off the street.
In closing, Rabbi Wolfe if you are reading this maybe call/come by and check on our guys in the back by the property lockers, that is where Extraditions went to. We used to have the Rabbi and Father Sullivan as our Police Chaplains under Mike Sheahan, under the current guy they are gone and never were replaced. Not good.
All while trying to do the right thing. Rest peacefully fellow brother. Thoughts and prayers for you and your family.
God bless those who lend a helping hand.
Hero even off duty. RIP
My Deepest condolences to Officer Ronald Prohaska's family, friends and colleagues. Heartbreaking that he lost his life while lending a hand to a stranger in need. God Bless him for his selfless service to the public. By every measure he was a hero, who put others ahead of himself. So very tragic that he perished while lending assistance. May he Rest In Peace in God's Eternal Light.
