Nickel and Dime Time (UPDATE)

Lunch denied? Late relief?

Even a quarter-of-an-hour per day adds up (click for larger version):

Every single union nationwide has won grievances regarding punching a time clock. Everything past your scheduled quitting time is payable. No "I'll take care of you later" or "I owe you one." And that includes time in the locker room preparing for the shift or putting away equipment after the shift.

If Groot wants this to be a factory job, she's going to pay like factory workers get paid.

UPDATE: And overtime becomes pensionable in many other cases? Sounds fantastic!

Learn your contract. Get to know your stewards.

Document everything! If something does happen, document everything, and ask any witnesses to also make notes for their own memory.

Work with the city to get every dime and everything you are owed in exchange for a fair and full shift keeping the city safe.

Groot obviously prides herself in being a micromanager extraordinaire. Instead of looking at city employees as a way to save money, she should look at the leeches of society who drain our capital without ever contributing a dime. But, in true communist fashion, the working taxpayer is always punished. I really hope that the leeches and their enabling politicians will all burn in Hell for their crimes against humanity.

Mayor Larry hasn’t clue the first what a whopper of a can of worms she’s opening.

I’m all for hammering those who are chronically tardy, claiming the same lame fucking excuses and the house mice in pampered units/spots who dip early and often.

But if you’re gonna fuck with the slugs who hump everyday, you’d best be prepared for the exorbitant OT that’ll accompany this half-cocked edict. You don’t punish the whole class because a few knuckleheads can’t behave themselves.

Prediction: This will be an epic failure, with CPD being scapegoated for busting the police budget before the fiscal year is half over.

And can anyone smarter than me confirm or deny the chatter regarding such OT becoming pensionable at some point? I’ve heard it come up but haven’t a clue regarding the authenticity of such a claim.

And off topic, but Groot related... did ya hear Mayor Toad Eyes lambasted on duty ICE agents for wearing their uniforms while dining in a Pilsen restaurant? It seems some locals found it upsetting, making phone inquiries to their aldercreature for an explanation. Now the story of her requesting CPD officers not wear vests and weapons to some shit earlier in the week seems completely plausible.

This bitch is out of control and needs to be checked. Hopefully our great President Donald J. Trump will stick it in the asses of every mayor who refuses to cooperate with the federal government in these matters, starting with this 5 foot nothing turd.

Sorry... gotta stay till four, swipe out, and then we'll see you in a few hours. On the watch side of things.... Late arrests. Unavoidable traffic stops on the way to check off. Jobs that OEMC likes dumping on late cars that are gonna run you into OT just so they can clear their board. I don't think the City realizes that they are opening Pandora's Box here. If we actually all stuck together for once we can actually bend this City towards our will. I doubt it though. Way to many 2 year wonders falling over themselves to wear jeans and pretend to be the Police.

Maybe start with an 8 hour City Hall workday that includes Aldermen (under or pending indictments), the department heads and supervisors.
Nobody should be exempt from the swipe card. Nobody.

I wonder if this could open up a wide range of Labor Relations issues and reforms, for the better.
The diabolical and maniacal Larry LightLoafer is hellbent on decimating our Contract and its protections as well as shaking down the rest of the certain ZipCodes for more revenues to fund community sanctuary entitlements.

This also means there’s a Big Johnson’s Employee Attendance Dashboard being developed.

Watch the video at the link on the Tribune’s website more and more jeopardizing your job for a white jeopardizing your future doesn’t make any sense however they can use the Illinois State police superstars to let drivers drive massive busses down the expressway and then with lights and sirens on escorting the sports stars wherever they wanna go throughout the city jeopardizing citizen safety that is OK but with the copper date is wrong. But now A Copper does something like this and will be in trouble doesn’t make any sense though does it?

8/10/2019 05:51:00 AM

Not a smart move but the copper says is Sgt approves of it, but I’ve seen the Illinois State police through no fault of their own ordered escort the sports players baseball football etc. from the airport so rapidly down the expressway is causing traffic to pull over traffic tie ups to let these overpaid athletes get to their children’s games which is what they are adults playing children’s games who is getting paid off for all of this I wonder? And yes I did check into what they are forced to reimburse the troopers for one hour pay and I think it is according to what I was told $150 they paid for this service. How about we offer the services two doctors who are very important to get them to the hospitals when you have to do surgery instead of the stupid sports players who deserve nothing! Who is head of the Illinois State police now another part of the democratic and yes I did check in the way they are forced to reimburse the troopers for one hour pay and I think it is according to what I was told $150 they paid for this service. The funny thing is, there was no ICE on presence in Pilsen...and the socialist Alderman used it to play God, and lead the terrified residents right into his hand.

The man himself has only lived in Pilsen since 2010, after marrying a white girl and settling in Willow Springs until they divorced. Before that, he lived in Tennessee, where he moved from
South America when he was 17. (What was the purpose of such a short marriage? Was it a sham?)

His real name is Byron Sigcho, but that sounded too Anglo, so he added Lopez to make him appeal to his dwindling masses (being chased out the Anglo Invasion), where he could take over the militant Pilsen Alliance (known for threatening businesses/developers and graffitiing Anglo properties).

Relax though, he recently married an Asian who bankrolled his campaign. But he is, like, power to the people. He’s even seen Motorcycle Diaries and aspired to be just Che!!

Time cards are subject to some minor adjustments - what's known as "de minimus". The concept being that if the punch is 7 minutes or less BEFORE the scheduled start time, or 7 minutes or less AFTER the scheduled start time, the punch time can be adjusted to the start time because it's assumed that such time was spent standing and waiting to punch the timecard.

The gist? Don't do a THING when you get there until your start time. Punch in at the start time. If it takes 8 minutes to punch in, your start time will be at the 8 minute point (so you'll lose 8 minutes if you punch out on time).

If you arrive early and some boss wants to ask you something - go punch in FIRST. No off-the-clock work.

All this stuff adds up - if that's how they want to play it, let them. Just make sure it works out in YOUR favor.

If they tell you that you can't punch in early, that's fine too - when asked to do something as you walk through the door, or asked a question, go stand by the clock until the time to punch in. Then do so, then do the 'something' or answer the question.

If enough people do this, it will become such a PITA that the policy will change. Especially also when the City ends up paying out OT because of this.

Ladies and gentlemen, here is a bit of advice. If swiping in and out comes to fruition, don't fret. Follow the rules exactly. By doing that you are sure to accumulate about 1/4 hr of OT every day you work. Check off is at 1430? Come in at 1425 hrs., park the car, turn in your paperwork, then your radio, taser, camera, phone, carbine ad nauseum, then make your way over to the swipe machine that now reads 1440 hrs. If it is past the G.O. mandated 7 minutes you are entitled to OT for that 1/4 of an hour. Two weeks of this, times the number of cops working each day, and swiping out will become a thing of the past.

And that includes time in the locker room preparing for the shift or putting away equipment after the shift.

Could you elaborate on this portion of your post? I don't see how un-tying my shoes or removing my duty belt would be on the clock. And no, I'm not trying to be a smart ass.

“I am not sure that time in the locker room getting ready for roll call would be payable. I have been out of the game for a few years now, from the department and from private industry where time clocks were prevalent. usually people have to be ready to work at their posted start time. But, I could be wrong as things are constantly changing.”

I’m retired now also (congrats to you and enjoy), and I supervise a warehouse now, and my workers hit a time clock. Last year we got uniforms for our guys. Our HR manager said we have to allow them time to change, on company time, if we require the uniform. (I would have done it that way anyway, within reason.) She said it was accepted practice in Illinois. Admittedly, I don’t know how long that has been in place, or how concrete it is, but I would imagine an arbitrator would look at such things which are “customary” in the state.

Enjoy a long and happy retirement.

"In a 39-page ruling, U.S. District Court Judge Gary Feess found that the several minutes it takes an officer to dress for duty is a vital part of the job because “police uniforms convey and legitimize officers’ authority, increase officer safety, and help deter crime.”

The dress time, which is generally thought to be between five and 15 minutes on each end of a shift, Feess decided, falls under the compensation rules of the U.S. Fair Labor Standards Act, a long-standing law that requires employers to pay their employees for all hours worked."

.....smile all the way to the bank

WRONG! It's called a personal for one of the most common 'personal' needs.

To all you clowns that think the FOP is a union, SAKE UP. It is a bargaining unit and golf putting planning committee. No power at all the city just probes by calling your VP a clown. Anything come of that? Didn't think so you couldn't even get an apology. Your contract is what the city says it is.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
You seem to forget that overtime still has to be approved by a supervisor.
The OT system doesn't automatically approve it.
A couple days of this and the Sgt will tell you to come in earlier, 'cause he ain't paying you on the end....

when the cops get as much time off as teachers do, both in the working week and in the working year and get the same deal in their pensions, then we can talk. You get 3% compounded each year, police do not and you pay nothing into your pension fund, get lots and lots of time off. Please, give me a break. And, no police officers went down to the socialist country of Venezuela to kiss their ass.

When Chicago cops are required to have a college degree, they will have put themselves in a better position to negotiate. Less is required to be hired by your department than by CPS. Now some cops may have a college degree - but it’s not required. So, you’ll get what you get. You are free to change jobs. No one is forcing you to be a cop.

Also, I’m sorry your union sucks at negotiating. It sounds like you should have been a teacher.
