Groot to Take on CFD
Which may be a hard sell - people generally like firefighters and respect them as professionals who know their jobs, unlike politicians:
- Runaway overtime at the Chicago Police Department isn’t the only item in Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s cost-cutting crosshairs.
She also hopes to hammer out a new firefighters’ contract that eliminates treasured union perks and outdated staffing requirements that cost taxpayers tens of millions of dollars.
“She doesn’t want to have a confrontation, but she’s a tough cookie, and there are some things in the firefighters’ contract that don’t make a lot of sense and should be changed,” a mayoral confidant said Tuesday on condition of anonymity.
“Fires are way down. Emergency medical calls are way up. Yet, this is still a fire suppression department firmly planted in the 1950s and ’60s. Changing that kind of encrusted tradition is extremely hard. But she’s taking a hard look and trying to come up with a plan.”
Sources said Lightfoot delivered her cost-cutting message in a recent face-to-face meeting with Jim Tracy, president of Chicago Firefighters Union Local 2.
The mayor asked for help and cooperation from a union that gave her a pivotal endorsement during the runoff campaign against Toni Preckwinkle.
Sources said the answer was no, setting the stage for contentious negotiations.
Generally speaking, we like firefighters. Heck, even specifically, we like them. If they say they need five guys on a truck (two 2-man teams and someone to watch/operate the apparatus) then they need five guys on a rig. They're the ones going into burning buildings.
We certainly recognize that more ambulances are needed as the population ages, medical emergencies become more prevalent and serious discussions ought to be undertaken. But not at the expense of firefighter and citizen safety. We're betting there's plenty of waste at the top, just as in our own department, that could be trimmed without affecting manning issues.
Groot however, doesn't believe in actual negotiation, as demonstrated with the police.

Groot is Moot
She best tread lightly with the smoke-eaters. She wasn't here in 1980, but she should have somebody do a little research. The smoke boys and girls just might stick together and show her a thing or two. The teachers and the smokies walking out at the same time would fuck the Groot good!
Groot; Let's see what's the stupidest thing I can do this week.....Oh yeah 18th anniversary of 9/11, let's get concessions from CFD!!!
Oh well...Hey Honey where we going this weekend, this place is a shithole.
Take on the CTU, ya phony whack job mayor.
Go on.
I double dare your toad eyed ass.
Screw her. It’s time for Cpd and CFD members (not unions) to sue for residency so we can all at least raise our kids in nice schools and not this shit hole. I’ll give her $10 grand a year but I can leave the city. I’m sure I’m not the only one.
Cut the fat first...like 50 alderasses who only hold fund raiser after fundraiser, use tax money to fund personal pet projects rather than that of their constituents, approve projects against the peoples will and desires, demand freebies from private enterprise, oh yeah and of course get indicted and go to jail!!!
NOW, MISS MAYOR-ASS, THIS IS A JUSTIFIABLE AND GOOD PLACE TO START YOUR CUTTING!!!
Why not just tell every department to cut 10% and let the department heads figure it out. They know where the fat is.
The simplest thing for Lightfoot to do with both the CPD and CFD is cut the bloated waste at the top. Just stop promoting and filling the positions. I doubt the CFD is as bad as the CPD but probably close.
wow. where does one go with this one?
“If the need for firefighters vs. EMTs has changed, we need to change the formula. There are no sacred cows anymore. They’ve all gone out to pasture.”
So tell me to pay more fucking tax and die. New lib shorty: PMTAD.
"Ald. Gilbert Villegas (36th), the mayor’s City Council floor leader, argued Tuesday that every option now must be on the table, including closing firehouses, to chip away at the city’s $838 million shortfall."
As above and why hasn't the federal prosecutor in this district sought out Mr Villegas arrest?
"Sources said Lightfoot delivered her cost-cutting message in a recent face-to-face meeting with Jim Tracy, president of Chicago Firefighters Union Local 2."
Hey tuff guy. You wanna take it to some guy in Texas, why don't you bark your fool shit tax raising [cost cutting, ha] to the Chicago media or better directly to the public?
“Fires are way down. Emergency medical calls are way up. Yet, this is still a fire suppression department firmly planted in the 1950s and ’60s. Changing that kind of encrusted tradition is extremely hard. But she’s taking a hard look and trying to come up with a plan.”
A plan from an idiot that can't tie its own shoes. Ya, I agree. Let's dispose with fire suppression. I invite you to web search 'Detroit Fires'.
People, we have all taken local government elections too lightly for too long. What is ruling in cities now is the distilled arrogant, will it upon you asshole effluence. I'm guilty too. Thought that a city mayor was responsible for filling in pot holes, removing trash, keeping street lights on. Not any more. No. They are are self proclaimed heroes.
These big city mayors, and others, eg. south bend ind, all think that their twitter followers and likers are going to take them to world leadership. Imposed upon you are their "lead the world" stupid fuck ban the plastic straw type oppression. And like our lovable munchkin, all are sorely mistaken.
Never vote for another democrat, ever, in any race, at any level. They're all politburo bots wanting to suck you dry in a bad way.
Just have fun
Back in the 90’s the city hired a private consulting firm to write the Tri-Data Report.
The report outlined 3 major flaws affecting the CFD.
The report concluded that, even WITH the departments shortcomings...... the service delivered by the firefighters & paramedics was “WORLD CLASS.”
1) The CFD lacked proper diversification.
To address the problem the city paid Samuel Betances $130,000 to come in and antagonize every firefighter & paramedic on the job with a 2 hour lecture. (https://www.chicagotribune.com/news/ct-xpm-1998-12-22-9812220140-story.html).
After that waste of time and money the city did things the old fashioned way.......they lost a series of lawsuits forcing the city to hire 111 blacks and all woman classes. The affected classes received some combination of seniority time, pension time, and cash settlements. Chicago went on to appoint a black paramedic as the fire commissioner, recently concluded a 6 year term with a Puerto Rican “yes man” Commissioner nicknamed Semper Fraud, and now has another black Commissioner that openly campaigned. in uniform and on city time, for Preckwinkle.
As of 2019 the CFD is diversified.
Hell, it’s so diversified that some of the diversity selections are looking at OTHER diversity selections, shaking their heads and saying, What the fuck????
2) The firefighters & paramedics delivered WORLD CLASS service in spite of delapitated equipment (engines, trucks, & ambulances). and firehouses that were falling apart. Chicago’s budgetary cycle smiled favorably 15 to 20 years ago and new rigs were purchased, land was acquired, and new firehouses were built.
AND finally,
3) The Tri-Data Report concluded that the CFD was TOP HEAVY and wasted money on EXEMPT positions that contributed nothing but a hindrance to the WORLD CLASS service delivered by the men and women on the street.
Since the report was written and the city rectified the diversity, apparatus, and firehouse problems......the EXEMPT ranks which were identified as TOP HEAVY have...............MORE THAN DOUBLED.
Yep, DOUBLED.
Issues 1 & 2 corrected.
Issue 3.........not only not corrected.......but DOUBLED.
Interestingly enough the CFD has been unable to recruit qualified bargaining unit members to join the woeful command staff. The result has been that the top heavy problem has gotten exponentially worse.
TWICE as many unqualified bosses hindering the WORLD CLASS service provided by the men and women on the street.
Start with a top to bottom overhaul of the command staff.
Identify need.
Eliminate redundancy, hiding spots, and utter waste.
Example: Eliminate 6 DDC 24/7 positions each day. DDC’s that have made $300,000 in recent years.
Yep, $300,000 per year.
DC’s can handle the small amount of administrative work the DDC’s do during the day. Extra alarm fires that occur “after hours” can be covered by the DC’s on the current rotating call basis.
Oh, they will scream that the positions are necessary.......they aren’t.
The answers to what is wrong with 35th Street will not be identified by people who collect a check from 35th Street.
After the command staff has been properly streamlined, then and only then, take on issues with the bargaining unit that delivers WORLD CLASS service to the tax payers of this city.
Maybe they're ready to get back on board with the old " Me Too Clause " that we use to share in our contracts?
It might strengthen negotiations for both departments?
FOP? " Bueller?!...Bueller???!! "
Groot will be a one term mayor. Same mistakes Jane Byrne made. The fire department, CTA, teachers, and other city departments all on strike under her term. They make us all live here. So we all vote here. Which isn’t good for their side or good when they piss us all off. We all have friends, families and neighbors. You can’t take on all the government employees. Even Bill Daley tried to appeal to the regular guy talking about messing with our pension, and he thought along with Rahm, that Bill was going into the run off. We all seen how that worked out. Bill is now in NY and Rahm left the City also. The city is in bad shape from years of politicians taking for their personal gain. Most here just want to leave, including myself. We will all see how the next 3 years moves along. It is getting off to a rocky start. Three years in she will go back to campaign mode. That will be my last Mayors election voting before moving. All of this shall pass.
And yes, Jane Byrne let us unionize and gave us a good contract. But she couldn’t afford to fight with us as well. Crime was bad back then.
The groot looked a little uncomfortable at the police memorial service last night.
I like firefighters too. I like prompt ambulance service more.
Every department has an abundance of unnecessary top management, start there Larry and maybe, only maybe, the unions may talk to you like your serious about “reform.”
“She doesn’t want to have a confrontation, but she’s a tough cookie...”.
So THIS is the dude President Trump was talking about when he lamented he had discovered someone capable of fixing our crime problems in a week?
Whodathunkit?
Way to go Larry!!!
The demographics of Chicago dictate the need for a traditional fire suppression based service.
Chicago is one Incident away from mass arson.
And as the populace descends deeper into savagery, yes more ambos are needed. Too many are tied up on ghetto bidness.
Someone who’s good at being a prosecutor doesn’t mean that person will be good at being a mayor. Chicago, you got hosed.
9/11/2019 12:06:00 AM
Forgive me if I am incorrect, but I have never heard or read that she was a good prosecutor. I have read that she was mediocre at best. It also seems she continues being mediocre in her most recent position as our mayor.
Firefighters get uniform allowances? Why? Things evolve. Unless you're working a ghetto firehouse you may go your entire career never fighting a fire. It's true the job has evolved into more of EMT's responsibilities. My grandfather was Cfd for 40 years so not bashing firefighters. Look at garbage men. Back in the day you had barrels they had to physically lift into truck no lids sewage spilling all over them bugs rats etc nowadays they roll a cart on wheels hook up to a crane. Do they still need 2-3 ppl on a truck?
Politics is the delivery of money and services——Sgt. Shriver.
Yet she’s attacking everything that keeps this City safe and up and running. It’s a novice move, and it’s going to hurt her and the City in the long run. I assumed she was a politician, but every day it becomes more evident that she’s grasping at straws and in waaaaay over her head. And that goes for her handlers too, who write nice sound bytes and speeches, but don’t have a lick of sense either.
I’m tired of her already. I just hope my beautiful City will survive her incompetence.
—-not a cop
Going after CFD on the anniversary of 9-11. Calling her a moron doesn’t do her justice. How stupid is she? My God.
fact and direct quote. The problem with my job is I am bored with nothing to do.Quoted by a former district chief. They should look into what the bloated command staff actually does.Extra alarm fires are almost non existent. The culture of the Fire dept.in The last 30 plus years Was to hold onto manning for firefighter positions while demand for paramedics increased dramatically partly because of the aging baby boomer population.Mannagement has been on board with the union on manning because more positions mean more promotions and the politically connected pensions as a result.Cut the bloated top heavy positions and cut the alderpeople in half if they want to really start saving money.By the way,Rahm was recently on a talk show bad rapping the trump administration for wanting to cut Medicare benefits. This is the same hypocritical person who cut health care for the first responders of the city who earned the right for good health care from the city because of the hazards to employee health from the nature and risks of the job.
Of course, nowhere in the conversation was the fact that a certain segment of the population uses CFD ambulances as free taxi service. Do they still send ambulances for ingrown toenails and other non-emergency bullshit? Do they still dispatch a car to "ride with CFD" in certain areas where a certain segment of the population will assault the crew and destroy their rig in their absence? Can't even mention that those things even happen(ed?). That would be racist.
It's hilarious. She bitches about the OT, I'm in 006 and they're still allowing us to work our rdos.
WAY OVER HER HEAD!
she has no clue in NEGOTIATING. She thinks huffing and puffing and leaking nonsense to the media will get her what she wants.
Her team of social justice warriors think everything in any city worker contract makes no sense. Most were never city workers in any department.
And yet she still cant figure out how to save on a city budget and makes up spots for her social justice clowns... and when GROOT makes up a spot guess what one of the carrots is?? a FULL GOLD BRAID PENSION
What if the city stopped paying people to babysit their own kids, or paying them to walk their own kids to school, especially if they don’t have a job. That would save a lot.
What a classless piece of shit the mayor is. Calling out your fire department for criticism on 9-11 is an uncalled for act of cluelessness. I hope all of the unions in this city flex their muscle and put this little ignorant mistake out of politics. She makes me sick.
There are 3 different ranks on a ambulance. Paramedic, paramedic in charge and ambulance commander. Huh why
Doing more work with less people is gonna make me wanna Huff & Puff!
Seems people are forgetting who the good guys are.
Our President was going to utilize the talents of Rough Cookie. Not tough Cookie.
South Bend is far from being a big city.
She could slither under a Buick Roadmaster from the 50s
without a creeper
There was no problem offering teachers 16% (which they turned down). And they only work 9 1/2 months a year.
It’s time they go to 8-hour shifts. Period.
Even tough cookies can crumble.
Now, kees me you fool!!!!
Maybe Groot should call the firefighter union leadership 'a clown' and then open up negotiations?
Screw her. It’s time for Cpd and CFD members (not unions) to sue for residency so we can all at least raise our kids in nice schools and not this shit hole. I’ll give her $10 grand a year but I can leave the city. I’m sure I’m not the only one.
9/11/2019 12:27:00 AM
You are blowing smoke up your own ass! The Democrats control everything in the state of Illinois, including the Supreme Court. There is currently no chance of changing the residency requirement
Groot however, doesn't believe in actual negotiation, as demonstrated with the police.
In that regard she’s very much like Tiny Dancer. He never believed in the give and take of negotiations..... he only understood the take, take, take part.
Groot is pissed at the world and is repeatedly showing her major Napoleon complex.
Teachers offered 16% and a good portion of them do not have to abide by residency. She wants us to "make sacrifices" I already have sacrificed enough , GFY you clown
Fuck the city
The bloated entity of the City Council is the institution ‘firmly planted in the 1950s and 1960s.’ Cut your staff in 1/2 and try doing twice as much work...!
1st cuts should be alderman , no need for more than 10 . Put it on the ballot , it'll pass.
CFD for safety should assign firefighters to 12 hour shifts , they should not be required to wake from a sound sleep and respond to a fire . Unsafe , Cut upper ranks , most suburbs do not have a Lt. Rank , they have firefighters and a Captain . All the BS batallion Chiefs , Deputy , a waste of tax $$
Take on the CTU, ya phony whack job mayor.
Go on.
I double dare your toad eyed ass.

Screw the CTU! Communist greedy pricks

The issue of more paramedic units was brought up in the Washington D.C. Fire Department about 8 to 10 years back. There were not nearly enough paramedic units(vehicles and personnel) to cover the calls. I remember a union rep for the Fire department rank and file go on the news and plead with people not to use paramedic services for what I call "concierge medicine." It seems a certain demographic in D.C. would stub their toe, sneeze a few times, need a band aid for a small cut, they would dial 911 and have the paramedics come out to drop off a band aid, hand out some aspirin or so forth. It would be interesting to see a break down of what exactly the calls are for the paramedic units.
They would save a shit ton of money if they got rid of the big fire boat that just squirts water for ceremonies and eliminate divers from jumping out of a helicopter which is dangerous and just for show !
Fireplugs should never take on the CFD
When are you and JB, going to get your head out of your asses and cut down on your bloated depts? Oh I forgot your Demorats, all you do is ask everyone to cut back but you, you are both sorry asses!
What about an Obama Presidential Library and Casino complex? Complete with a couple of kiosks in the library for Cupich and Phluger.
Unfortunately, she is correct on this one.
Here's an idea for the Mayor give ALL exempts from both CPD and CFD the Wonderlic test. It's only 50 questions. Wonderlic is an intelligence test and part of what it tests is problem solving ability. If they score below 20 put them back to their earned rank which for CPD would be patrolmen. They've created a top heavy department CPS educated department. Start there instead of going after the rank and file.
Ok, what does it cost an hour to run a rig with 5 firefighters on it to a stubbed toe? Now, what does it cost to send the 'bambalance? Savings will start when you have more ambulances and stop sending out too much equipment. It would be interesting to see the hour meters on the trucks before they started sending them to every ambulance call, and then after. Savings would come from less maintenance on the big rigs.
I'm not for cutting anyone, but maybe shrinking by attrition, as there really are less fires, What about MABAS?
I might be naive, but I haven’t yet seen her do anything to indicate she won’t negotiate. I mean she’s doing the right thing by setting the stage for negotiations, making sure that everyone knows what the objective and financial facts are, she’s made asks that she though could be easy wins - obviously she’s been wrong, but also hasn’t tried to force anything through. And she has since been soliciting feedback from the survey and now asking the FF union to come to the table with ideas. So I’m not yet seeing an aversion I negotiating.
She did call a tool a tool, but let’s be honest, he’s a tool. Wasn’t polite or even professional, but she hasnt circumvented a negotiation process...yet
The hostile hysterics of a 114 Day Mayor.
CPD making too much OT and benefits. Wasn’t that long ago Rahm complained OEMC was making too much OT.
CFD has too large of crews and benefits.
Someone in her political cabal is probably instructing her to make the city budget a CPD vs. CFD battle.
CPS/CTU is actually demanding a lion share but that doesn’t anger her enough to make it a headline.
You can guess who will be the villain of this planned political distraction.
StupidGroot.
Has her City brain trusts looking to save money on hope that everybody getting out of a burning structure, after that it’s either an insurance claim or bulldozed heap of rubble that’s sold off for Section8 redevelopment or a dolla store. That’s some sharp mind.
Lari LightLoafer thinks there’s not enough fires to justify the amount responders.
Lari LightLoafer thinks there’s isn’t enough violence and crime to continue hiring.
Lari LightLoafer thinks CPS is doing a shitty job, but it doesn’t anger her so she's going to (already has) pump more program money into that failing institution even before the Strike vote on Sep 24.
Lari LightLoafer was a failed attorney, a stumbling, rancorous, foul toad.
Does the narrow minded Groot have CookCo operatives planted in city hall?
Lari LightLoafer is not bright to figure that out as of yet and will likely have to befriend ol’Sourpusswrinkle real soon.
The 114 Day mayor turned out be be a real Prickwrinkle.
Mayors like her have no friends.
Wasn’t it a few years back, that the CFD added additional ranks, Silver or Gold bugles or vice versa, to add diversity, and costs and clout?
Haha haha!!! Hey CFD hows that endorsement working out now for you???
The Illinois Supreme Court has picked Justice Anne Burke to serve as the state’s 121st chief justice for a term starting next month.
Burke, who is married to indicted Chicago Ald. Edward Burke, was picked on Tuesday to the post on Illinois’ highest court starting Oct. 26, according to an order from the court. Her term ends Oct. 25, 2022, according to the order.
She will take over for current Chief Justice Lloyd Karmeier and will become the state’s third woman to hold the position.
Burke was first appointed to the court on July 6, 2006.
Her husband has been charged with public corruption in a wide-ranging federal investigation at City Hall. He has pleaded not guilty.
well isnt that great- your husband is under federal indictment and anne gets another promotions and us working non clouted cpd officer are 9161 forever
Talk to local 2 when you start cutting alderman and the waste in all city departments including fire!

Been tried. If FOP or CFD union thought they could win they would have filed the suit a long time ago.

Great idea. Now take the $10 grand and file the lawsuit
“Toad eyed ass”. Now that’s a keeper. Nearly shit my pants.
"Ald. Gilbert Villegas (36th) if you’re closing firehouses let’s begin in your ward. Next, work our way through lower paying property tax areas.
The root of most of Chiraq’s troubles can be summed up in one person.
Richard M Daley.
>>>>> “Fires are way down. Emergency medical calls are way up. ..." <<<<<
Okay then, like with the Police Overtime costs, the CFD is spending a ton of money due to the savages in 'the community' filling the air with lead and adding thousands of ventilation holes to thousands of people, many innocent bystanders like This Woman Shot In The Head by a Stray Bullet {Chicago Tribune). That Gang Shooting also got two more innocent bystanders! Oh, and the intended target, not a f--king scratch on him.
So maybe the Midget Mayor should direct her ire at the people who are the cause of all these expenditures -- her own goddamned people! If these assholes acted at least semi-civilized the Police wouldn't need all that OT and the CFD's cost for EMT's and Ambulances wouldn't be in the stratosphere.
Lori Lightspeed is supposed to be 'a tough cookie'. Fine, then let's see how tough she really is and she gets 'her people' to knock off the bullshit.
Mayor Poverty-Crime can also let it be known to Lil Kimmy Foxx, Tommy 'Pizza Party' Dart, Judge Evens, and Toni Perriwinkle, that their touchy-feely, restorative-justice bullshit doesn't work, period. That THEY are destroying the City and the County.
THAT'S something a 'tough cookie' would do. So Lori, do it!
The mayor is just running her mouth again. Big scary talk which might impress the lefty granola munchers who live in a 500k condo...rent a micro unit apartment for 2k a month or spent over a million for a yuppie house...but at the end of the year there will be no significant changes...so she will declare 2020 to be the turnaround..then 2021...and then she will skulk off to so other nonsense position.
Good luck to her taking on a real Union
We are a few weeks past one the worst tragedies where 10 children died in a fire in a coach house that spread to three adjoining buildings, You need 5 people on an apparatus to effectively stretch lines hook up to hydrants and start extinguishment and in that fire multiple lines where placed by first arriving companies. Ladders don’t raise by themselves, and while ladders are being raised searches must begin you run out of manpower quickly even if you escalate alarm immediately it takes time to get on the scene. If you want to save money close a couple firehouses that are to close together but keep five man rigs especially on Hook and Ladders.Hell to deliver excellent care for a person down on the street from a OD or cardiac arrest takes at least 4 why do you think they always are dispatching engines or trucks with ambulances. From someone who knows 39 year member.
""Ald. Gilbert Villegas (36th), the mayor’s City Council floor leader, argued Tuesday that every option now must be on the table, including closing firehouses, to chip away at the city’s $838 million shortfall."
Then why did they give away 1.3 Billion to Lincoln Yards Let that sink in 1.3 Billion given away to developers We must really be stupid to let them cry poor now, that would have solved the budget problem. TIFs are the biggest scam going wake up Chicago the money is there in the TIFs
They don't care about us Put residency on the table NO city has won when challanged.

One thing is for certain...the private sector would never operate like the CPD or CFD with the massive top heavy clout management. The reason why is simple...the company would fail. Just like we are. Clout and corruption go hand in hand. It’s the Chicago way.
You want better ambulance service? Easy solution. Make it a policy to not send out the “mobile Dr.’s Office” unless it’s an actual medical emergency. Headaches, upset stomachs, someone got punched in the face, etc etc etc. if you can stomp around on the street screaming about how “they jumped on me” you can take your ass to the hospital and not have an ambulance show up so you can get an ice pack and then refuse treatment. 10 adults standing around screaming for police to call an ambulance are the same people who can drive their ass.
I find it interesting that almost every budget reduction idea out of City Hall seems to be sacred ground that cannot be touched, while a large number of posts raise concerns with excessive real estate taxes and unpaid pension debt. In addition to raising levels of productivity, at some point, the city will have to do things differently and learn to operate with a smaller budget and reduced staffing levels.
I would say one term mayor... but look at the shit who would run against him at the end of the day
This should be good! I am going to enjoy watching CFD stick it to groot. CPD pay attention, you will learn how to stick together.
Oh, FU groot!
They do have their uniforms on all of the time. All kidding aside most of their equipment is utilized on a fire scene including personnel I remember a certain fire at a pizza joint on commercial where there were firman coming from everywhere to help it was windy as hell and cold. Everyone was needed that day
Lightfoot speaking at this years 9/11 memorial:
“So we need to do everything we can to support our first responders”
In other words “Stick it in their asses come contract time”
Meanwhile...
John Kass willfully and deliberately omitted
a tasty tidbit of irony and context in his
"Should Rahm Emanuel Run For President..."
column today.
To wit:
-"Rahm lashed out at progressive candidates — authentic lefty Bernie Sanders and faux lefty Elizabeth Warren, who is playing the Hillary Clinton role this cycle — for supporting government health care for everyone, including people in the country illegally, whether they want it or not..."-
“We’ve taken a position so far, the candidates have ... few have not, about basically ‘Medicare for All,’ which is we’re gonna eliminate 150 million people’s health care and we’re gonna provide health care for people that (have) just come over the border," Emanuel said on ABC, which pays him for his wisdom...
-"The “Medicare for All” plan embraced by the left would, critics say, yank private insurance away from Americans, including union workers who once formed the backbone of the Democratic Party."-
~Snip~
-"Rahm is already on record telling Americans that a crisis is a terrible thing to waste. And so is video of idiotic and pandering hand-raising on untenable political positions..."-
~Snip~
“No one in a diner ran at me and said, ‘Take my health care away.’ Nobody,” Rahm said. “You don’t have to take this position to win the primary, and you’re literally hindering yourself for the general election.”
-"Get in the race, Rahm. Run for president. Save your party."-
Yeah...
Kass put himself in the vehicle of craven self-interest.
What now of his put-on for the common man and affinity for
The Police?
Especially since he artfully dodged a timely juxtaposition
of Rahm's shitty-assed mealy-mouthery and hypocrisy of his
current position/talking point versus when he deliberately
and deeply boned CPD retirees, spouses and widows/widowers
by snatching away THEIR medical insurance and having the
UTTER AUDACITY AND GALL TO BRAG ABOUT IT!
Here:
@chicagoist.com
22 Dec 2016
"...As we continue to sort through the documents, so far the notable findings in the massive email dump range from mildly embarrassing to alarming. Here are some highlight revelations:
Rahm brags about eliminating health care for retired city workers."
"Emanuel’s controversial call to phase out Chicago’s retiree health program will leave some 10,000 of workers on the hook for coverage—a move he publicly touted as a regrettable but necessary cost-saving measure. In the email, however, Emanuel comes off as downright boastful about the move. Wealthy investor Henry Feinberg asks, “Since when did Rahm Emanuel let a judicial ruling get in his way and not find a creative work around solution[?]” Emanuel replies, “Never which is why I eliminated health care. Only elected official to eliminate not cut or reform a benefit. Thank you very much. A 175 million saving!”"
John Kass letting Rahm Emanuel
off so easily?
Mistuh "Truth-To-Powers" slipped?

The union should demand armed guards on each ambulance and fire truck.
Like the CPD, they likely have overtime abuse and bloating at the top. And just like the CPD, the CFD union knows they are in for a fight whereby the overtaxed citizens of Chicago may just side with the Mayor and demand some real cuts that have been nothing but waste for decades.
After the command staff has been properly streamlined, then and only then, take on issues with the bargaining unit that delivers WORLD CLASS service to the tax payers of this city.

I imagine that this was written by a member of the CFD. It most likely is pretty accurate. But, there is no way the democratic party will ever give up their ability to use patronage in every city and county department. Only a study made by outside forces, again, and made public will help to change things. You can see that the County Clerk, Yarbourgh, is again, yes, again, on the hot seat for patronage hiring and is being sued in Federal Court. Notwithstanding, the party will stand behind her and the dumb will vote for her.Things are too corrupt in this town to ever change. And, despite what Lightfoot says, she will eventually succumb to most pof the corruption because she wants to be reelected and stay in power. I had a friend that I worked with many times on the job. He was a minority and climbed the ranks. When he was a police officer and a few lower ranks he was strongly against cronyism and patronage. When he made deputy chief he was an advocate for just about everything. After retirement, he went on to a number of top jobs with the state. It is a go along and get along system in this state.
Medical emergencies should be addressed before they become emergencies. People should get regular checkups and get medical care before it becomes an emergency. They should counsel patients to see their PCP when they are sick, even if it's just a cold which can escalate to the flu or pneumonia, both life threatening conditions. I say give the firefighter whatever they want. They know what they need and we are honored they work to keep us safe.
She’s a feisty little sawed off runt.
Since there’s rarely any fires in Beverly, the downtown districts, Lincoln Park, or the North side (where taxpayers live and use their money for smoke detectors), why doesn’t the 36th ward Alderman hustle to close those firehouses to stop this city’s financial burden? Since there’s no shootings there either (and when they’re ‘sick,’ these people can gat a ride to a hospital), why not get rid of those ambulances and place them where all the mayhem is, Alderman? Those taxpayers wouldn’t care...
Folks the city has a budget deficit of almost a billion dollars! Something has to give and public sector salary and benefits packages are huge and in the long run not sustainable. The Tea Party would agree.
Still no talk of TIF Districts no politician wants to talk about it!
12 is about to roll out the narcan kitsch to pop's in hopes they will assist in dope addicts overdosing. I recently saw a video where paramedics assisted on a greyhound type bus, and was shot and killed when this jagoff woke up. Remember folks we are NOT required to administer this shit we MAY assist. If folks want to overdose who am I to stop them. This is still Zmerica6and you can do as you please.
Doorknobber for mayor. Ask Georgas and baby G Kennedy
She rolls over for the teachers, but targets cops and firefighters? Who's doing a better job? Take the gloves off and the cops would clean up the streets in 2 weeks. I rarely if ever hear a complaint about the firefighters. But teachers? Look at the product...
Keep asking myself why did Chicagians vote for GROOT???? GROOT is a JOKE!
Former Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan, who has been relatively out of the spotlight after announcing she wouldn’t seek reelection two years ago, has joined Kirkland & Ellis as a partner, the firm announced Wednesday.
Madigan, who served as attorney general for 16 years, will handle high-level litigation, government and internal investigations and crisis management for Kirkland’s clients in both Chicago and Washington, D.C., the firm said in a release.
Madigan shocked many when she announced in September 2017 that she would not be seeking reelection. At the time, the North Side Democrat offered little explanation for her decision.
“Throughout my life, I have been passionate about the law and driven to find solutions to complicated legal matters,” Madigan said in a statement about her new job. “I am thrilled to continue practicing law at Kirkland, a firm of great lawyers who are successful in helping clients both proactively and reactively. Important to my work will be pro bono service that aligns with my belief that everyone should have an advocate to fight for them.”
Madigan, 53, had served as the state’s attorney general since 2003 and was the first woman to hold the office. She also served as a state senator from 1998 to 2002.
In 2013, Madigan compiled a $4.8 million campaign war chest with cash raised while she flirted with running for governor. She dropped out after concluding that “the state would not be well served by having a governor and speaker of the House from the same family” and that she had “never planned to run for governor if that would be the case.”
be careful of princess lisa she love to be alder person of the 41st ward.

Someone who’s good at being a prosecutor doesn’t mean that person will be good at being a mayor. Chicago, you got hosed.
9/11/2019 12:06:00 AM
****WHO said Anything about Groot being a great prosecutor????
I’m no firefighter, just a lowly PO, but if the fire department says they need X number of guys on an engine or truck, I’m assuming there’s a reason for it, safety reasons I’d presume. And our mayor (a law enforcement AND fire department expert, what are the odds!?) says that fires are down so we don’t need to have X number of guys on a truck or engine. But what about when that day comes when there’s a really bad fire, or, god forbid, a terrorist attack where a building is bombed or goes down? Our trucks and engines aren’t staffed properly because our mayor was hoping something like that wouldn’t happen. That’s flawed thinking. Hope ain’t a tactic. Hope ain’t a tactic.
She can fuck the police all she wants, no one gives a shit about us, but people like firefighters and paramedics. Bad PR move to get into it with CFD. Stand tall boys and girls of CFD, stick it up this bitches ass every chance you get.
She, like Jane M. Byrne (God rest her soul) will regret taking on the CFD
I watched a person have a asthma attack and Shabonna park. One engine stopped with 5 firemen, then a ladder truck stooped and then finally an ambulance that transported her. That was about 12 people three vehicles at about $1500 an hour. Good use of our resources and money.

There are 3 different ranks on a ambulance. Paramedic, paramedic in charge and ambulance commander. Huh why

You are kidding, aren’t you
Heh...
The militantly misandrist mannish-assed mayoress

she would have no choice but to give the store

...To keep their wild asses from flocking
downtown on school days in continuation of
their summertime merry mischief of eye-slapping
and phone snatching...
She KNOWS "the children" will bend her at the
waist and royally clown and make sport of her
hateful, racist and obtuse ass.
She'll need to "keep tha' Poleece name

in school.
"Why aren't you Cops doing anything
about this/them?"
Uh-Uh... Not laying a finger on these little
politically/culturally/socially weaponized and

The Police?

Cut luxurious paper.
Leave.

It would be interesting to see a break down of what exactly the calls are for the paramedic units.
9/11/2019 09:01:00 AM
If the complainants name and the back 1/2 of the address was blocked out, could the calls for service be FOIA'd? Just want to see the calltaker narrative and the disposition. Wouldn't be hard to do, they use the same dispatch system we do. Only problem is we can't peek at their calls on the PCAD. :(
8 or 12 hour shifts. Chicago is the only fire dept in the country still on 24 hour shifts. THAT would save on a ton of over time.
We’re in new times.
Chiraq’s inhabitants hate CFD too.
1st off negotiate the CTU to put in 8% into their pension. 2nd give them a 10% increase for 4 years. Then let's go from 50 Aldercreatures to 25. Then let's see where we stand. STOP HITTING THE cFD and CPD first.

Well, instead of someone just laying there with no help waiting for an ambulance, they’ll send a truck or engine so at least someone is there. As I laid on the pavement almost dead, I was thankful the engine showed up and got the ball rolling before the ambulance got there.
This whole situation is so fucked. You want to talk about wasting money? Let's talk about all these wasted POs and supervisors in those goddamned SDSC rooms. Those fuckers need to be in cars answering calls and out there interacting with the fucking public. Or all those phoney fucking bosses occupying unnecessary layers of command, sucking up fat pay and fat pension benefits. XO?! Fucking useless spot. Mission teams? Useless spot. If they were focused on robbery and burglary stuff, detail them to fucking RBT. All the hideout places at headquarters like force review, medical integrity, strategic services, CPIC, DOC, why are sworn members wasted in those places? The long and short of it is there are not enough fucking cops on the streets. Same as fire, there are not enough fucking ambulances, which is why engine companies and squads run on every fucking job. There are too many goddamn chiefs and not enough Indians.
They do get paid a uniform allowance even though they get all of their stuff for free. That should go
Chicago does not need 50 aldermen and 50 wards. Government has to be smaller and be more efficient. GROOT has to reduce the number of aldermen to 10. CPD doesn't need all these fuck'n deputy this, deputy that, just one superintendent. Eliminate captions, and district commander's. GROOT will never change the above!
Both unions need to come back strong, you are willing to spend millions on entitlements but not pay fair wages to first responders. She wants a war, give her one. Teach this freshman politician the price of her war.

Imagine the pain of going through your life, being such a bug-eyed misfit, then suddenly getting your chance to get-even with the 'cool kids' who stuffed you in the trash can. Imagine learning at a young age to game the System, embrace the continual booster chair into the next level until you reach Protected Class Status.
Mayor knows how much free time those firefighters have- making love in the coat room- she watches Chicago Fire on TV.

Evidently you didn’t do any real research. Everyone of those cases that lifted residency was won in a state court. You just proved his point where he stated it can’t be won in Illinois because of the state courts including Illinois Supreme Court who just appointed Burke as Chief Justice

What did the first 5 on the engine do? If they rendered any medical treatment why was the second truck needed?
Since Cardinal Cupcake the flake and Fr Faker Fleiger want to run the government instead of the Catholic Church maybe it’s time to start making them pay property tax in the state of Illinois? That should pay for a few new firehouses and ambulances.
lol... cfd was the 1st to back lori the clown mayor
and another thing lol I'm all for equality and sh*t but at least be able to do the job. i passed cfd training academy and the female lead trying to maneuver what appeared to be a fully charged line (hose) up the stairs COULDN'T a male instructor and second man maneuvered the turns for her
Savings will start when you have more ambulances and stop sending out too much equipment.
fyi every rig or piece of equipment is required to have at least 1 ff-emt (firefighter certified emergency technician) thats why a piece of equipment while get their usually before da ambo. PS they get paid extra $$ for that certification and responding. suck on that!

What you are refusing to acknowledge is the total, 100% control of our state, county and city by the democrats, and that includes the courts.
The democrats are not going to change the state constitution, the city code, the city employment rules and the police department's residency rule for you because that is the way you want it, and no judge is going to order it be done.
Now, knowing the deck is stacked against us, the FOP would be irresponsible to initiate legal action concerning residency. They might as well throw the money out the window.
Face it. This is not a new dilemma. For years and years, many sharp and talented people have looked for a way to beat the City of Chicago's residency requirement. It has yet to happen. All the angles have been tried, but if you think you have a better way, have at it. Good luck.

Say what?
From reading comments-it seems like CFD is too top heavy with dead weight. Seems like they have the same brand of individuals that we do-mopes that haven’t done a day’s work in their life, who were given copies of every promotional test, riding the affirminative action/merit train ride, will howl ‘racism in the house’ if you tell them to do something that’s in their basic job description, will probably hide outside should a fire occur, huffin’ and puffin’ about high blood pressure, stubbed toe, smoke in my eyes now I need to lay up with stress and take the summer off with an ‘injury,’ act like they’ve earned a promotion because of their years of dealing with ‘hostile workplace environments’ that can’t adapt to their dogass ways & look like complete fools when they talk about all they’ve accomplished. The city can save a ton of money cutting away this waste-but the City only cates about ‘numbers in the ranks,’ not competence..
Arbitration coming for cfd, anyone with less then 10 yrs could be gone if they don’t do it by attrition.
South Bend has a lot in common with Chicago.
1. A Cubs baseball team.
2. A major university.
3. A nut job gay mayor.
I haven't seen firemen this riled up since the last time they tried to eliminate the firehouse pinch and tickle time.

They would save a shit ton of money if they got rid of the big fire boat that just squirts water for ceremonies and eliminate divers from jumping out of a helicopter which is dangerous and just for show !
9/11/2019 09:06:00 AM
The city of Chicago with its location on the water and many boats, ships , docks, piers, warehouses and structures(potentially full of flammable/toxic/explosive contents) on or near the water has to have a large fireboat (if not two). Nothing has immediate access to unlimited water or can throw water like a fireboat or get close to massive/dangerous fires on the water or shoreline . It would be crazy dangerous for Chicago not to have a manned large fireboat.
Folks the city has a budget deficit of almost a billion dollars! Something has to give and public sector salary and benefits packages are huge and in the long run not sustainable. The Tea Party would agree.

Look a little deeper and you will see that every one of those situations are different from Chicago's.
Chicago's residency is due to an ordinance passed in the late 1920s. It is a known pre-existing condition of employment. It would have to be altered or rescinded by the City Council.
An arbitrator can not grant a change in residency.
The other residency challenges were in different states with different laws and constitutions.
Plus like others have said, our courts aren't exactly on the square either. So a legal challenge would probably be a waste of money.

You listed a number of personally valid reasons for seeking employment and housing outside the City of Chicago, however, your current employer is under no obligation to agree with you and, most assuredly, would never agree your reasons are valid. The moment you took the job, you were inextricably tied to the residency requirement as a condition of your employment. There is no upside for your current employer to release you from the requirement and there is no current path to compel the employer to release you from the requirement. I am sure you do not want to take no for an answer, but under the current climate and conditions, no is the only answer you will receive, no matter how much time, money and effort you throw at it.
