Study Material

So there are a couple of places trying to put together study packages with all of the orders, law, etc into a single binder-ready package. But some people are saying that copy stores, like Kinko's, aren't allowing photocopying of copy-written material.

What is everyone else out there hearing?

As each person hands over their $25.00 the city should be dispensing a three-ring binder containing all the study materials.

Use the shit copy services (Office Depot) and know it depends on the kid working the counter. Big box stores, which sell items other then copy services, most of the time will let this occur. If the store sells office chairs - the odds are better their copy center does not give a fuck what you have printed up.

Go in person to get this done, don't submit by other means. Most of those stores will do it but it is also correct that managers or some workers give that whole song and dance they won't support infringing on copy written material etc. If you find one who allows this with zero issue, run off a good size batch!

What is the obsession with printing from a service? The total size is about 600 pages or less of material I'd bet. Even double that size is okay for project making PDF file(s) to be used and shared that way.

Scan and PDF that content you have in printed form already. A $90 scanner (double side with feeder) for a home office, get one on Amazon, can do that task. This just has to be done once; split the task among a few people even and join the PDF later.

Upload the final PDF on a file hosting site, password protect the PDF and password access to the file sharing site download option. Share with any who are in the study group the passwords and download URL.

Any study group member can read the PDF (phone, tablet, PC etc) on a screen or just print it out at home in part or whole. Again $90 or less printer from Amazon can do that print task in two hours or a bit longer for 600 pages. Get cheap ass ink from eBay (just run head cleaning option when you change the cartridge) or Amazon ($10) and get paper from Costco for $20.

Hell, you can even take the cost of the new printer and ink plus paper off your tax return since this is bought and used for professional educational aims.

PDF sharing beats spending money at a store which might deny you the option of printing it out due to copyright issues. This is not 1996. There are more options to share complied content then just binders already printed.

Word on the skreet is that the rank of sergeant sucks unless you've got a phone call out of patrol.

Keep those fucking chevrons. I don’t want to babysit millennials, not even for the bump in pay and pension. These kids are likely to get you jammed-up... just look at the caliber of jokers they’re letting on this job now. I’m too close to the end to roll the dice with these clowns and D2A ain’t too far removed from D3.

Groot could really have her hands full in October 2019. There are three possible strikes in the offing. Chicago Teacher's Union, Chicago Public Schools Support Staff and the Chicago Park District, which would be the first strike in the 85 year history of the Park District. Now if we and the CFD can somehow contribute, the Groot's head might have a meltdown. She already hates us so it isn't like we would be losing a friend. Oh, and remember to Groot-swipe in and out starting next week!

Copyright is an interesting concept. It began as a way to see that authors are temprorarily (10 years) compensated for their work, but has evolved into permenant Corporation control of information. It has been bastardized into a tool for shyster lawyers to extract huge sums from individuals on behalf of Corporations. There is no more original intent of protecting the creator, it is just another Law bought and paid for by th same crowd.

To think that Law books are restricted by greed seems patently un-American. Information is being controlled in a fashion not seen since the Dark Ages.

As a general rule, for works created after January 1, 1978, copyright protection lasts for the life of the author plus an additional 70 years.

Simply copy it from their usb to your own laptop. Then you can read all of the materials. CAPS has all the paper and toner on lockdown.

Nothing like last minute preparations and scrambling.
The mimeographs are turning at full capacity.
That Kinko’s reference was rich, maybe there’s one next to the FotoMat.
The last exam I took the high tech crowd had GO’s burned on a CD and the desk had an onboard disc drive (upgraded from a floppy drive). The Tech Unit was slow to replace all those old Dell’s and with that at least I can say, lasted longer than my promotional ambitions.

Tote around a 3 ring binder, huh ?
Hey, I wonder if the Strike-Ready CPS has some iPads leftover, stacked to the ceiling in some hall closet (what used to once be a library) they can issue us opportunity seeking candidates or are they saving those for the mysterious, reported months later “weekend burglary - we now need them replaced” requisition ? Gauging the way the hand out annual free backpacks, I suspect any CPS iPad surplus is long gone.

Good luck, and if anyone comes about finding a copy of the exam beforehand, please let me know. If you can, please upload it to MySpace account.
It’s not cheating, it’s opportunity research.

Go pick up a prepaid cell phone, use it to TAKE PICTURES of said directives. Email to a freshly created GMAIL account.

Penalties for copyright infringement include civil and criminal penalties. In general, anyone found liable for civil copyright infringement may be ordered to pay either actual damages or "statutory" damages set at not less than $750 and not more than $30,000 per work infringed. For "willful" infringement, a court may award up to $150,000 per work infringed. A court can, in its discretion, also assess costs and attorneys' fees. For details, see Title 17, United States Code, Sections 504 and 505.

Willful copyright infringement can also result in criminal penalties, including imprisonment of up to five years and fines of up to $250,000 per offense.
