AdMin Fax Messages

You can learn a lot reading the Administrative Fax Messages on the Department Intranet - transfer orders, policy changes, upcoming retirement cake and coffee events, death notices, etc.

You can also learn a lot of things not to do, like leave a personal rifle in a personal car and the keys to said personal car in a gym bag in another unlocked car, so that thieves can steal the bag, click the key fob, drive away with the personal car....and said rifle within.

Three places you should never leave guns:
  • gym lockers
  • cars
  • anywhere a kid can touch it
There are probably a few more, but those are our big ones.

You should never leave a gun with the watch commander.
This will be on the test.

Get a lock box for your handgun if you plan on leaving it in any vehicle.

Have to leave a rifle in your vehicle? Pull the bolt, lock the trigger

You all know how lazy and stupid criminals are. Make it slightly hard and they will give up.

You leave a weapon in a car and it’s broken into or stolen...it’s automatic that you’re taking 10days. So if you’re going to club or somewhere that doesn’t allow weapons after work. It’s best to leave in your locker in the police facility.

I just can’t fathom anybody with a half brain leaving their vehicle unlocked in this day and time. It further baffles me why they’d leave an unsecured firearm in it. They make locking gun racks that are similar or the same to what’s used in police vehicles. Leaving an unsecured firearm in your vehicle could be a death sentence. People need to get their head out of their asses. Just because you wear a badge doesn’t mean you’re immune to crime.

Wow. Just wow.
Seems like laziness, and thoughtlessness.
I really don’t understand the thought process behind any of that. Seems to be a lack of solid thinking at just about every step of the way, by everyone involved.

The whole point of the carbine program is to give officers a tactical edge in the streets.
We tend to lose that edge when we hand our weapons over to the bad guys.

I pray that the weapon is recovered quickly, and before anyone (and especially an officer) is hurt with it.

Simple fix... Stuff the kid in the locker and seal it. Even if there is a gun inside, with the locker secure the kid is less able to use the gun unless he wants to just shoot up the locker.

Lockers come in different sizes now so there are models which can fit in a car (trunk of one anyhow). Leave the gun in the gym locker and put that whole locker into your car. Stuffing the kid inside too is optional of course.

The solution to stupidity is more stupidity! Absurdity solves all!

Now which locker did that kid put my gun in... *BANG!* (shit!)

I'm a big fan of consol vault safes. They are intalled in your center consol.
There are long gun sized safes for the trunk or cargo area.
Due diligence, that's all.

You can't tell me that those remote door locks and push button electronic ignitions aren't being easily hacked by techno-punks. Seen some surveillance videos on news reports where the punks walk up the driveway with a tablet and scan codes to enter and start cars. The stories have been brief and far between, probably because the auto industry is keeping the lid on the downside of these "high-tech conveniences". That's why I bought a car with a key ignition last year while I could.

Unfortunately, because of the way the CCL statute was written, non officer CCL holders often have no choice but to leave their weapon in the vehicle when visiting GFZs, like court if you're an attorney for example. If the bad guy is going to steal your car, a safe in the car for your weapon isn't going to stop him from getting the weapon. The bad guy will simply break into the safe.

If you gonna have a weapon in the car, get a gun safe for it. They make several sizes, from pistol up to rifle. I have used Lund in Northbrook. They do a ton of police work. I do know there are places on the south side also. You can also have a safe ordered by ail and have someone with more talent than me install it.If something happens, it might save a kids life and lots of time off.

What is your opinion of the Safe Harbor parking lot provisions of the Illinois concealed carry law? If the place you intend shop is posted or if the property is one of the 23 plus prohibited places listed in the law, a person has to leave the gun in the car. Seems like a theft waiting to happen.

Lost some of my gear (no guns/ammo) to a window shattering thief in the cloak of darkness.
Glovebox GPS snooper happened on a required uniform of the day stuffed in a gym bag (European carry-all) because there were no lockers for transferees, why...? Because some locker hogs like to have 4 or 5 to store their holiday decorations, seasonal equipment and doomsday provisions within. One even had an iron and folding ironing board inside, clothes line strung up across the aisle too.
I know they tried to discourage this now, but squatters rights still apply.

I hate auto key lock fobs and this push button start bullshit.
Find a fob why not take the whole car too?
Wish some company would make simple put a brass key in the hole, turn and go automobile without all this self parking, touchscreen, heated seats, blinding led, open my tailgate for me, make my calls, help me nanny sensors bull crap.

Gee whiz, I hate forgetting to hide my $4.50 balance IPass from open view.
Shit happens and it’s easy to forget even the simple stuff.

Let’s hope the unfortunate soul gets the property recovered soon.

Still waiting for the FAX501 announcing the SpecialEd exile.

OT (but slightly in bounds)
Most public pot companies are based in Canada, which
legalized pot in October 2018. So we need a few years
before the data comes in. But what we do know, the
Dayton shooter strawman LIED on his applications for
gun and body armor purchases. Not only did he use
drugs, he smoked pot daily for 10 years. So when he
said he had no clue the equipment would be used in a
nefarious manner, maybe he was telling the truth (in his
mind).
Pot has been implicated in auto accidents resulting in
death (just like alcohol). It's the manyana drug. I'm
cool now, so why work hard to advance myself? This
is good enough. Like the Dayton strawman, 10 years
pass in the blink of an eye and you haven't made any
progress. In fact, you fell behind because straight people
worked hard to get ahead.

Stolen LE firearm:
You heard this before. You want your car stolen.
You leave the keys in the ignition @church, grocery store,
ect. Bingo! Always safe. You can't give it away. It's almost
like they know you are LE.
*****speaking of church. The Catholic C. in XXXX has sent
out letters to those parishioners, not living in church boundaries,
who have not given $$$ in past 3 yrs to find another parish.
This may be you. You stay for sentimental reasons, maybe you
want a funeral from there. But the Money Masters say give or
go elsewhere. (It's not like you are using any of their resources)
One parish even streams services for the elderly. This is a
sudden $$$ grab. From where? It's ALWAYS from Rome.

I have a snap safe lock box in the car with that tether attached to the seat frame. Is it secure? Well, sort of, but on a trip to the Dr. office a while back, the fat nurse nearly pissed her pants when she saw my pistol when I took my shirt off for the tests. I was like, really? That was the first time I went out of uniform because it was my day off. I normally went there first and work next stop. A white, clean cut man of more than 60 years of age scares you? They know I retired recently so keeping the fact I might, if I go in my yard, I'm strapped, have a firearm is not a battle I want to have with these damnable democrats anymore. Now, I either carry one of my smaller pistols and leave it in my pants pocket or if I'm getting a test that requires my clothes to be elsewhere, I lock the pistol in the car and worry the whole time I'm in the Drs. office. I'm not going out in this city without a pistol, I'm retired now so being a crime victim in this damn city is a real concern. Of course I'm considering moving, who doesn't, I just never thought I'd get to hate it here as much as I do now.
