Coppers Injured in Dragging
- Two Chicago police officers were dragged by a vehicle after performing a pat-down on an armed suspect in the Douglas area early Saturday morning. The officers were called to a restaurant in the 3400 block of South Dr. Martin Luther King Drive with reports of a man inside with a gun, according to Chicago police.
Police said the officers performed a pat-down on the suspect and found that the man was in possession of a handgun. Police said the offender pushed past the officers, fleeing the building to a vehicle parked outside. According to police, the offender drove off, struck the marked Chicago police vehicle and dragged both officers as he fled.
The officers were transported to Northwestern Hospital with injuries after the vehicle was found a few blocks away, police said. According to CPD, both officers sustained injuries due to being dragged by the vehicle including abrasions, contusions, possible fractures and internal injuries. According to CPD, a female officer was admitted to Northwestern Hospital and is being treated for two collapsed lungs and fractured ribs. Police said a male officer suffered minor injuries.

First off... Prayers to the injured officers. Next... This is EXACTLY what happens when you let civilians control and dictate police tactics. In the old days... Person with a gun would have NEVER been "patted down" before being handcuffed. The old-timers used to say: " they (the handcuffs) can easily come off". Meaning, jagoff was not necessarily under arrest, just being safely detained. Well...along comes the ACLU, the DOJ, various civil groups, BLM, the state consent decree... Everyone wants a "no hands-on" policy, and an ISR written under certain circumstances, etc. And if we put cuffs on prematurely, that's considered an "arrest", so we cannot detain individuals that way. What civilians don't realize is that these criminals don't play by the rules... people with guns don't nicely submit to being detained and patted down nicely until popo discovers the gun, then shrug their shoulders and put their hands behind their back like they do in the movies. Message to young and new cops... STAY FETAL!!!!!! You CANNOT safely do police work like it was done in the old days, not without sacrificing your health, safety, your life, your job, your pension, your house, your freedom...and not necessarily in that order. If jagbag doesn't kill you, Kimmie will lock you UNDER the jail. Smile and nod and cut paper - after the fact. Otherwise stay fetal my friends...it's the only way

Collapsed Lungs is a Life Threatening situation, and certainly a Life Changing circumstance. Add to that the nonspecific Internal Injuries, and this could be career ending, or permanent disability. I hope these officers get well soon, but in reality their lives are forever changed. Exactly how I felt running these stupid scenarios in the academy.....I had better find another career because Im not talking to a man with a gun call without grabbing and cuffing him....All the training is based around what COPA, ACLU and others will think while reading your reports and watching your body cam....NOT our safety!
Many jurisdictions allow handcuffing for officer safety prior to an actual arrest......any fool or politician
watching any news program or even LIVE PD can see this......person is TOLD he/she is NOT under arrest....just detained
for safety reasons......with officers deaths increasing at an alarming rate, it's time for THIS city to return to allowing this.....
They were just trying to do the right thing.

From the description of the injuries , they did not get "dragged", they got run over and maybe dragged/rolled underneath the vehicle. Far more serious than just being drug alongside of the vehicle hanging on.
Must have had high ground clearance, lucky they are not dead. Unlucky such serious injuries.
Hope they recover enough to enjoy a full disability pension. From what I read here that would be the best outcome. No longer have to work under a city admin and government that hates you.

Always, always, put cuffs on any subject you getting out of the car. As soon as one leg is out pin them against the car and put it on. It’s for everyone’s safety. Some of these new guys and girls are afraid to touch anyone placing partners in 99 unit.
