Sergeants Settle?
- Mayor Lori Lightfoot and the unions representing Chicago police supervisors have reached an agreement on contract terms that will give the department’s sergeants, lieutenants and captains a 10.5% raise over a five-year period, according to the administration.
Other issues, including items related to police discipline and the federal consent decree aimed at overhauling how the city’s historically troubled force operates, will go to arbitration in December.
The agreement with police supervisors covers the period between July 2016 and June 30, 2022, officials said. Chicago police sergeants, lieutenants and captains have been without a contract since their previous deal expired at the end of June 2016. The 10.5% raises cover January 1, 2018 through January 1, 2022.
So in actuality, the raises look like this:
- 01 July 2016 - 2% (denied FOP raise via grievance)
01 Jan 2017 - 1% (denied FOP raise via grievance)
01 Jan 2018 - 2.25%
01 Jan 2019 - 2.25%
01 Jan 2020 - 2%
01 Jan 2021 - 2%
01 Jan 2022 - 2% (thru 30 Jun 2022)
So it's a 13.5% raise for six-years. We got about twenty e-mails pointing out the cost of living in Chicago has risen at an annual rate of nearly 2.9% a year since 2014, so the PBPA is moving backwards? And the Health Care was raised 1.5% to match what other city unions are paying.
- how come this never happens with the Teachers Union paying their own pension?
Small bumps in duty availability, but not uniforms, and a paragraph that says if the FOP or Fire side do better, the "me-too" clause kicks in.
And how much do the teachers turn down the other week? 16%? Looks like supervisors are going to be used to hammer the FOP as "unreasonable."
UPDATE: All the disciplinary stuff is in the hands of an arbitrator - which we're told is impossible since the PBPA had refused to discuss any changes - especially after one of their members was fired for merely approving TRR reports that were brought to him at the desk - he wasn't even on the scene - and he got fired. What the Hell is that about?

Dumb, dumb, dumb! The beet of the drums! You can’t fix stupid! They are losing money! The Sgt’s Union doesn’t do shit.
Who cares? You merit POS’s ruined everything. You come across like you earned it but deep down you know there was someone better, more qualified and more deserving that you stole that spot from. So when you’re at work today walk around with your head down because chances are you’ll walk by someone you fu@ked over and they know it. Hopefully someday your clout and test score will get revealed. For some it already has and it’s quite embarrassing and they actually showed up to part 2! Unlike some from previous tests when it WASN'T REQUIRED IF YOU KNEW YOU WERE MAKING RANK BY MERIT.
The Braniacs at the Sgts union have totally screwed their members on this one. Years one and two don't even count because that was only an agreed upon settlement from a grievance. So their members basically get zilch in retro pay from 2016 to 2018. Real nice. On top of that, all members saw their Healthcare increase by 1.5 percent and their prescription meds by 120 percent, yes you read that correct. So the raise for the first two years of the contest is basically null and void. That's not even including the fact that all disciplinary items will be decided at a later date. They would have been better off sending the whole package to the arbitrator. Terrible deal.
Look at the bright side, property taxes won't be going up very much in the next five years.
What fools would agree to a 13 percent raise?
Oh yeah the small minded sergeant & lieutenant unions.
I don't think the members agreed to this insult of a raise!
After looking at the board members of the sergeant union now I understand fully! They are mostly merit hacks with less than 5 years in grade! How did these clouted fools become sergeant union board members? Half of them are assigned to HQ and never worked the street in their career!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
$75.00 for a perscription starting in 2021.
Thanks ASSHOLES
Now we will ALL pay $75.00
Enjoy your retro...
Walked into work. Bunch of little black cards around. "Its OK to not be OK." Alright, I understand because of another recent suicide. Nice thought. Then I notice they are right next to the don't forget to swipe in and out sign starting Sep 30th. Then I find out the Supervisors are trying to push through another shit contract again. Remember last time when they wanted to mess with our pension benefits for another small raise. Typical, let the FOP (blue shirts) do the work and we will just feed off them with the me too clause. Typical city, act like they care about you but screw you!. 1 step forward, 2 steps back. To the supervisors union who agreed to this you are no better than Rostenkowski who screwed us on our social security benefits. I hope there is a hell so you rot in it.
PBPA sold out it's membership! Rot in hell assholes!
Your cash ain't nothin' but trash
So how much back interest is the city going to pay you while they were using your money that you could invested during that time?
At the end of the day, once cost of living and the insurance bump are factored in , we will be making less money. VOTE EVERY SINGLE UNION OFFICE HOLDER OUT! Dissolve the fucking union. It's not doing us any good anyway.
Fund raiser for Franko!!!
The sergeant’s union put out a document showing the Consumer Price Index for the Chicago-Naperville-Elgin Corridor rose 5.8% between 2016 and 2019. In 2015 my property taxes were $6,600 a year. Now they are a few dollars short of $11,000...and that’s with an appeal. So the CPI can kiss my royal Irish ass. The raise I would receive on 01-JAN-20 would just cover my property tax increases. Half the teachers don’t even live in the city so they got a pass on these giant increases, yet they thumb their nose at 15%. I’m fucking pissed with this contract.
PB & PA just made it so much more difficult for the FOP. And the sergeant's will not even be able to vote on this. Dirty business.
None of the Sgts. we’re told a agreement had been they read about it in the newspaper
Was on scene
Not a Sgt, but if I was a betting man, I’d go all in that this voted down by the members.
Any mention of the 55 and out option fgd or retirees?
The FOP better not settle for that trash raise! 15% over 5 years at least! Should be more...I'm tired of us always getting screwed...we should get what the teachers get.
In a good economy. U have got to be kidding ! What a
disturbed place !
Promise you, this will be voted down by 99% of the members! What a slap in the face

Reference the teachers raise. The monies paid to the teachers do not reflect their job performance as it relates to the product they produce,
.namely an educated student. The last two mayors took great pride in a 60% graduation rate for Chicago Public Schools. If that’s all the teachers can produce then give them 60% of their raise percentage. So 60% of let’s say the 16% the teachers turned down would be 9.6% raise if my math is right. Monetary raise related to job performance is the standard the teachers should be held to.
I take it they kept the quarterly check and the 3/4 an hour a day plus the sell back of 200 hours not bad considering they screwed the FOP by initiating an inferior raise, but they don’t have to worry, they have the me too clause. Basically sets the raise schedule for the whole department and will be used against us in arbitration
And the 55 and out will remain.
Cost to be decided in December by arbitrator.
I feel like Morrie from Goodfellas!
No more nut, no more bullshit.
The answer to my prayers.
My dream come true.
Shame on the PBPA's elected members who approved this.
How would this affect retiree pensions?
This is why you let lawyers negotiate contracts not policeman.
Here’s a question SCC. If as a Sgt, we retired with the contract expired, are we entitled to the bump for the time period we worked with no contract? Just covering from date of expiration until retirement, not the full boat. THANKS.
1% ? 2% ? By the time we pay for the increase in medical and prescription (not to mention the increase in property taxes, water and garbage fees, etc... we'll be losing money with this contract! Another fine example of taking from the working man to subsidize the ghetto folk so that they don't have to pay as much. This is moronic and insulting!
Anyone that agreed to this shall rot in hell!
The teachers union and their employees are basically a local form of government welfare. Why don't they put more into the pension system?
Nice to have every summer off!
We want more, we want more, we want more. Oh, it's not about us, it's for the children.
Bullshit I say.
The public schools have less students and more teachers than they need. It's like having 3000 mechanics to fix 100 cars. Go F yourself you commie teachers.
Guess where your tax money us going. To commie lib administrators packing the schools with illegal immigrants.
What's going on with that Sgt.? I hope he/they are fighting his firing and that he get's a nice cash settlement.
Damn union folded like a deck of cards. Shameful
SCC, the last paragraph of this post is exactly why NO ONE should want to be a Sgt.
Not only is this an absolute horrible agreement in good economic times. The association Members have been left in dark and not allowed to vote up or down. Its actually 13.5 percent over 6 years. Then you have to subtract the increase in medical with an increase, it looks like, in prescription co-pay. Add in the increases in property taxes and city fees and we are actually taking home less money per year than we were 5 years ago. Only increase we got was the reduction in federal taxes from 33% down to 24%. How this PBPA leadership thinks this is a good deal is beyond the realm of rational thought. They actually said this is a front loaded contract. ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!with a 1% for all of 2017 in there, how is this FRONT LOADED??!! And we handcuff the FOP in negotiating....! How about disclosing what exactly is going before the arbitrator! Keeping us in the dark, not having an opportunity to ratify it by membership and having us hear about it in the news paper are grounds for a vote of no confidence. They leaked it because it was so good for the City they want to use it to put pressure on CTU and FOP.Disappointed to say the least!!
I'm a Sergeant, the PBPA is useless!!! They lied to the membership at a meeting about raises. The 2% and 1% for the first two years was not up for negotiation. We were supposed to get that on top whatever was negotiated in the contract for the first two years. We were supposed to be looking at 5% a year for the first two years. Andruzzi and Bilotta if your reading this, I'm calling you out. I was at the meeting. You lied!!! I would love to see either one of them in a Sector Sgt car in the hood. Unfortunately that will never happen.
“ supervisors are going to be used to hammer the FOP as "unreasonable." Uh, not this supervisor. I’m voting NO. Free Jason Van Dyke.
These guys better wake up, put the complete package on the table and don’t break up the contract like the city is trying to do. This opens a whole world of future opportunity for the city to pick apart the contract at will . Don’t do it !
The heads of the Sgts, Lts and Captains associations are meeting with Graham at the FOP Hall later today. Why? Graham is desperate to be re-elected, so look for a press conference announcing that Graham has accepted the same deal as the other bargaining groups. Will Lori attend? 10.5 % for five years is way to low.
what do you guys do
flop should get at least what cps gets!
Just some information. The board found out about the contract just like the rest of the members. Blame lies solely with the President, Vice President and Treasurer of the Sgts, Lts, and Captains. They decided on all of this and dont need to nor did they consult or even inform anyone else . Yes, we were lied to about the "me too" raises. Please remember this come election time. It's time for new blood in all of these unions.
They have a me too clause
The fact that a sergeant was fired for approving a case report from his desk is the only thing they should be working on now.
how come this never happens with the Teachers Union paying their own pension?
B/C police cannot strike - there is nothing available to hold over the city's head
PBPA and FOP be dumped immediately. These 2 so called "unions" are useless. We need to have lawyers and outside people represent us, not assholes looking for the next bump or nice spot to land after.
When will we learn?
It can't be voted down by anyone except the city council. The agreement was made as part of arbitration. They tentatively agreed on a financial package because that was the package the arbitrator was leaning towards. In other words, an arbitrator may very well have given less of a raise and benefits. By the tentative agreement, this deal forms a foundation for a financial package that will culminate when the CFD and FOP finalize their deal (me too clause). Learn a little about contracts and labor law before making an uninformed opinion.
HAHAHAHAHA that's what you morons get for using Pleines, the guy who tried to bargain away your pensions till FOP Shields called it out and stopped that nonsense. Enjoy your shit raises.

I hate beets. Never did like beets.
This screws me yet again. I’m voting NO! What a joke. I’m maxed out but still forced to be here because of health insurance. Since if I have to stay to 55 I still go out without a contract. I strongly encourage all SGTs to vote no. The retro won’t even cover your property tax increase.
Hey, you get a raise, then the infrastructure goes down.
So what good is it in a major city if you have no water?
What's next, electricity?
(City name withheld to avoid reprisal. Massive water main
break. So, we go in the back yard...?)
That's not even including the fact that all disciplinary items will be decided at a later date. They would have been better off sending the whole package to the arbitrator. Terrible deal.
9/20/2019 12:18:00 AM
Dum, Dum, Dum... Never, Ever, accept sh*t then agree to discussing all disciplinary issues at a later time. This is stacked to benefit someone other than the Sgts union.
CTU-CPS refused 16% and Larri LightLoafer still is giving them their 2% pension contribution waiver for what is a 7 hour day, 5 days a week, weekends and holidays off, Sept - June work schedule, misc benefits, perks and the ability to Strike.
AND MANY STILL PRODUCE POOR RESULTS.
Ratify nothing.
If there’s a 2% raise on the Contract docket for the Blue Shirts, then there should be a 2% a year Management/Merit Discretions.
Stay Fetal.
Groot is setting aside some of that wage savings for Sanctuary.
Not a 13% raise....we were entitled to the 2/1%. We got no raise for 2016 and 2017. Then the union allowed the city to start the new contract in 2018!
The contract expired in 2016!
Calm down, its an annual deductible, not for every prescription.
$75.00 for a perscription starting in 2021.
Thanks ASSHOLES
Now we will ALL pay $75.00

Once again the leadership of the Supervisors FUCK the rank and file!!!!!!
Guess they really aren’t the smartest
Shame on the PBPA's elected members who approved this.
9/20/2019 04:43:00 AM
No one approved this Einstein, but you might be the very reason we get fed shit like this.
You seem to think that a test score makes you a good supervisor automatically. News flash, It doesn’t. When you take the test you know that 30% will be merit. So it shouldn’t be a surprise. No one is stealing a spot like you and others like to imply. The fact is, there are lots of problems in this Dept and most of the morale issues stem from incapable supervisors that have been promoted by score. Not all. But most. As a PO, and an educated one at that, the numbers don’t add up to support your notion. 7 out of 10 front line supervisors are promoted by rank order. 3 out of 10 are promoted by merit. And let’s be honest, most supervisors promoted by merit end up back in units really fast, so I would argue that 85% of district level supervisors have been promoted by rank order/score. If you take those numbers into account, and they are legit, the problems we face in the district are relative to rank order supervisors. People will argue that there is an inordinate amount of command staff that have had at least 1 merit promotion, that is true, however how often do you see them? How often are they directed involved in day to day watch operations, they aren’t. In 18 years as a blue shirt in a south side district, I have rarely interacted with captains or commanders. They just aren’t around. 99% of my interaction is with Lts and Sgt’s. And most of them have been rank order promotions. Some ok, but most incapable of making decisions and have no clue to how to look after the troops. They are typically robotic and can’t help but be literal about everything. They don’t understand the fluid nature of patrol field operations. I’ve worked for a handful of Sgt’s and Lts who made it by merit. Most have been good supervisors, some the best I’ve dealt with. A few complete clown shows. But the good ones aren’t around long enough because their talents are quickly recognized and taken elsewhere. And let’s clear something up, merit promoted supervisors have passed the test, not scoring high enough and not passing the test are two completely different concepts. Please know the difference. Apparently a lot of people confuse the two.
With all that being said, the way we test needs to be revamped and the merit process needs to be changed completely.
“What the Hell is that about?”
It’s about a cover up for all of the bosses, and rahm, that were all complicit it trying to mitigate this event for political purposes.
Well 9.5% raise effective immediately on Jan 1,2020 is OK with me. I’m not too concerned with the pay aspect as long as we didn’t budge on any of the discipline stuff yet. 9.5 percent will equal a monster retro check for most. I’m in.
Shame on PBPA if this is true and if so every board member that voted to accept this should be voted out of office. Not even cost of living and with cost of living to become even more significant moving forward with the debt the city has and how they plan to tax their way out of it. Listen blue shirts this is not acceptable and the FOP is smoking crack if they think we will accept this. Kevin don't even try to bring this to the membership under any circumstance. We lost too much under last contract. Listen up teachers offered 16% over five years with one of if not the worst public school system in the nation. According to all the stats over the last five years CPD has had a reduction in crime across the board, that has value.
At the end of the day, this contract makes seem like the real only benefit of going from 9165 to 9171 is the additional pension. Unless you’re in a good spot, an extra $7k isn’t worth the hassle of having to try and stop millennial warriors from chasing cars.
The Indians got a better deal selling Manhattan..
Suckers lol. And these are the best and brightest in the department who supposedly passed a test for supervisor lol. Idiots.
That so called union is easily bought out!
What is every SGT's dream.... To be an exempt, take home car and a nifty wooden desk.
SO all GROOT has to do is whisper word through grape vine to the SGT so called board.
Hers a test for all thos so called SGTS who have law degrees.
HOW MANY OF THE PAST PBPA BOARD IS NOW IN THE EXEMPT RANKS?
keep in mind those are merit spot no test.
Did anyone think past mayor gave them clouted spot to fumble contracts?
DO your homework the answer will take about 30 minutes to find with good internet service.

How would this affect retiree pensions?
9/20/2019 04:52:00 AM
Depends on your rank and when you retired. Probably won’t affect many retirees

9/20/2019 02:17:00 AM
Don’t make a promise you can’t keep. Some will vote for it just to get the retro check sooner.
If you retired anytime after 30Jun2016 you will receive a retro check for the time you worked. Your pension will also be recalculated and your monthly annuity will be increased and you will receive a retro check from the pension board.

The FOP better not settle for that trash raise! 15% over 5 years at least! Should be more...I'm tired of us always getting screwed...we should get what the teachers get.
This didn’t help us by agreeing to less than 15% over 5 years, but why would they care. They locked in this because they have the Me To
Now if the city would agree to out 5% over 5, they would have to pick up the additional costs for the supervisors. Also arbitrator will look at that agreement
I hope you aint sickly!
those SCRIPTS will be extra expensive.
Talk about a waste of time those numebr for a raise are a joke they want FOP to do the heavy lifting.
I am glad glad all the future leaders that wear a white shirt cant even negotiate a simple raise!!!
Learn about cost of living???
couldnt even get extra money for street SGTS for wearing body CAMS.
Follow the money!
On the flip side, they start reaping the benefits sooner than us and whenever our or the firemen’s contract is settled they get what we/they get so it’s not a bad move by their union.
But we should not ask for less than what the city offered the teachers....that should be our minimum.
The “Me Too” clause will remain in effect with FOP and Local 2 in the event their negotiations provide increased raises.
The supervisors did what was best for them. At the end of the day those respective unions have to do what's right for their members. They kick the can down the road and forced the fop to negotiate better wages because our Union has more money and we can afford it where there's cannot.
I was told the sergeants Union is still suffering from their guy who stole all the money from them.
A. To retirees......you would get back pay for whatever amount of time you worked before you retired in which you received none of these
raises.....EX: if you retired in Dec 2018, you would get all that raise money, plus your retirement check will reflect the amount of what the new salary amount is at your date of retirement.....EX: if you retired at a salary of $90K in Dec 2018, and get 75% of that, then your updated pension amount would be 75% of about $95.....rough math (not a CPA here and don't have a calculator) but about 350- 400 more a month.....depending on your status, dependents, tax percentages.
Considering how much they offered the teachers who turned it down, and still won't pay their full pension amount in, seems a little unfair to treat us worse than step-kids.
Let's make a deal...this is NO deal!
The first page of the last Sergeant’s newsletter from July states that the Union declared impasse and that “we were no closer to agreement on ANY issues than we were in our first session”. Now, all of a sudden we have to swallow this garbage agreement? Something stinks badly here.
The sergeants Union is so stupid they backed goo Fioretti for election a few times. They got screwed by Lori and are too stupid to realize it. Dumb ass losers.

It's like they hired Dean Angelo to negotiate for them. Kevin, don't fuck this up.

This contract was negotiated by a guy on his way out, so go for the retro and a guy that doesn't even live in the city, so he could care less about the property tax hikes, everything is cheap in McHenry country. To top it off his daughter gets the police freebie at University of Chicago when he shouldn't even be on the job! They gave us some BS about doing better than the CPI, but that doesn't hold water when you add in the healthcare increases and the property tax increase. And then the jagoff has the nerve to get snarky in the comments on the Lts website. Enjoy your one term, take your shit back to Woodstock! We've once again been sold out by our "leaders", right out of the Jim Ade playbook.

It wouldn't, except the 55 and out insurance always mirrors on-duty insurance.
Residency???
We have the Mitt Romney’s of unions. Just steamrolled right over.
FOP got a 1% raise in Jan of 2017, which was to cover them until their contact ran out six months later. The PBPA "bargained" for the same 1% FOR THE ENTIRE YEAR! It's time to hire professionals to negotiate these contacts. All three PBPA presidents should be out on their asses. I'm surprised we don't owe money. What a fucking embarrassment. And telling a member to go lobby Springfield to have the legislation changed on the way we bargain contacts?!? Isn't that what I pay my dues for? So the union can represent me?? Your arrogance will not be forgotten when it comes time to elect our next Lts president.
That 9.5% raise effective 2020 is really only 8% when you factor in the extra 1.5% for healthcare. That means the effective raise as of Jan 2020 is 1.6% per year for the 5 years!!!!
Pooooolices aren't even good at math. Yeah your guess is correct, the SGT raise barely covers the increases in property taxes and the like. Ots worse than that cause over 30% of those raises will be paid back in taxes. We are better off not even getting a raise and just taking 50 and out with 3% insurance.
Don't fucking spend it all in one place. Have you
seen these fucking $150K mini-motor vans? Who wants

You know what the trade in is? Practically fucking zero.
I'd like to go to a domestic on one of those. Talk about a
New Orleans shotgun shack! Maybe they'll let me recharge
my Taser. $150K used to be a house, but American stupidity
knows no boundaries. Spend on. You'll be in Section 8 when
you hit 75.
The MBA's tent over posts like this. The "little people"
fighting over pennies. They want to keep it that way.
Stop comparing to teachers the arbitrator doesnt care. Two totally different professions. Arbitrator will rule based on what other police departments got across the country. The arbitrator is not from here and is a well respected no nonsense fair arbitrator. Many departments got no raises last contract. Do some research. The financial package was good not great. What we pay for insurance is way less than what many other departments pay. Arbitrator would consider that also. The days of 3 or more percent raises per year are over. With all supervisors making over six figures and pos that stay til 29 making close to 100 your arguments will fall on deaf ears with any arbitrator.
You ain't gettin' outta this world without 'Scripts.
Happens to everybody. Medicare Part B & D (drugs) ain't
free. Don't ever miss those payments, you'll be "evicted"
from your healthcare. Most likely you'll put the thermostat
on 65°F and use ceramic space heaters while wearing a
"Selk" wearable sleeping bag. Those fixed costs eat you alive.
Make an "adventure" out of it and have some fun. That's the
only way you'll stay sane. We all got brainwashed with this
Golden Years bullshit. You can't turn back so make the best
of it.

At the end of the day, this contract makes seem like the real only benefit of going from 9165 to 9171 is the additional pension. Unless you’re in a good spot, an extra $7k isn’t worth the hassle of having to try and stop millennial warriors from chasing cars.
9/20/2019 09:41:00 AM
Guess, you haven’t heard about the quarterly supervisor’s check and also the 45 minute comp time that is given every day that you worked. Bank it for retirement, take a longer vacation or cash in 200 hours a year. Hmm 9165 to 9171 in the d-unit , it’s worth it. I’m sure you will be first in line at the next sgts test.
Is this binding or does the membership vote on it??
Anonymous said...
9/20/2019 08:16:00 AM
$$$$$$$$$$$
What are you smoking? Members vote on any contract proposal, and can turn it down. methinks you are not the labor expert you claim to be.
I’m sorry but it’s time for the F.O.P. to become dramatically more aggressive and play dirty like the city. We need for our members to go for the throat . Our current leadership is pathetic but that pain in the ass Catanzara although unpolished, has the moxie to fight an unfair system. If you have self initiated traffic missions at rush hour on LSD would get peoples attention.
I'm amazed at some of the comments here. Obviously from people who have never attended a union meeting but want to bitch. Get off your asses and get involved or STFU. Additionally dont spread bullshit. This is by far a great financial package so so e of you young guys should step up and to better. Another fact it's not the Sergeanta that sold people out. It was Sergeants, Capt, and Lts.
Calm down! I’m not voting for this shit and all the other Lt’s I’ve spoken with are voting against it as well. Now go get me some blue cards!!!
9/20/2019 04:03:00 PM
Ok dumb fuck. You don’t get to vote stupid ass
Get your facts straight....Property taxes are higher in McHenry County.
Personal attacks are always welcome, but keep family out of it.
One term? We struggle to fill board spots, we get less than 10% of membership at meetings, and you never submitted your ballot when there was an election...yes sold out for a management spot in a district..oh wait..already had that...
How would this affect retiree pensions?
--------------
It wouldn't, except the 55 and out insurance always mirrors on-duty insurance.
--------------
Actually IT WILL.
Prescriptions will go up to $35.00 1 January 2020.
They will then go up to $75.00 1 January 2021.
Anyone who retired under the age 55 or age 60 deal will pay the same for non-generic prescriptions.
Is it still 55 for health insurance?
11:45:00 AM - using the graduation rates to say teachers should be fired is like using the crime rates to say that police should be fired. Or case close rates to say that detectives should be fired.
Dumbest argument ever made on this site
As dumb as the last pres. the teachers turn down 16% for 5 years . Sell outs. And accept the least for retros. WTF.
IDIOTS. Can the members vote this down. Please do. So basically no retro we waited years for. Weak as organizations, the word unions are a joke, unlike the teachers
off topic **** Another lawsuit is coming out. This time it includes supervisors from Gang’s. I hope they all get fired .
Biden and his son should be in jail. Vote for President Trump or lose everything. God Bless America. MJL for all the tough guys🤪
I’m happy as fuck with this.
55 and out staying means I can get outa here in May.
33.9 years of this shit is enough.
I thought that with the Trump economy, everything is up and never has been better? The city still cries that they are poor? Who is bullshitting who?

I'm a Sergeant, the PBPA is useless!!! They lied to the membership at a meeting about raises. The 2% and 1% for the first two years was not up for negotiation. We were supposed to get that on top whatever was negotiated in the contract for the first two years. We were supposed to be looking at 5% a year for the first two years. Andruzzi and Bilotta if your reading this, I'm calling you out. I was at the meeting. You lied!!! I would love to see either one of them in a Sector Sgt car in the hood. Unfortunately that will never happen.
9/20/2019 06:47:00 AM
Andruzzi been gone gone for 2 years. Him and Donna Dowd are the PBBA lawyers.
The fact that a sergeant was fired for approving a case report from his desk is the only thing they should be working on now.

You don’t get to vote on this Lt. It’s been settled.
I would like to applaud the supervisors’ union for their actions in this matter. Before you jump off your chair and call me nuts, hear me out.
First off, we have to disregard the monetary offer to the teachers’ union and their refusal of the contract. Their issue is not about the money, it is about staffing. The city has told them that they have increased the budget to allow for more hiring of support staff. The teachers know that just because it is in the budget doesn’t mean that this will occur. The city can, as they have in the past, not implement these plans. They are looking to have these additional spots in the contract so that the union has some means available to force the city to add these needed resources.
Now to the supervisors’ contract: They could have turned this down and sent this, along with the all the other issues, to an arbitrator for a decision. It highly doubtful that an arbitrator would award a raise that would be much higher than this offer. The arbitrator does not look at individual instances such as “my property taxes went up this much” of any other specific single item. They use the CPI as that is a nationally recognized barometer of the cost of living. Based on that, the arbitrator would be in the same general area as what was offered.
Secondly, this part of the contract will most likely be ratified by the Council, as it was a mutual agreement between the City and the Unions. This give the supervisors their raises and retro now and not after the final arbitration decision which could be months away.
Thirdly, there are groups in the Council that are demanding many changes to the disciplinary system of the Department. They have already said that any contract that does not contain these changes will be voted down. In all likelihood, the arbitrator will see through the nonsense that the City is wanting as far as discipline and will not give the City the things that they are asking for. When this goes to the Council it will most likely be voted down and the Unions will have to go back to the table and continue bargaining. If you sent the economic package, along with the other changes, to the arbitrator, the Council will vote on the entire package. That means that there will be no raises until ALL matters are resolved. This could go well into next year and maybe even into 2021. No monetary changes would become effective until the entire contract is ratified. By the unions agreeing to the economic package now, they take this out of arbitration and began to receive the monetary benefits now. And again, it is highly doubtful that the arbitrator would give any raises substantially higher than what is on the table now.
Arbitration is always a crap shoot. Should a lower economic package be granted by an arbitrator, the unions would be criticized for not having taken the deal that was first offered to them. Now they have to hear the criticisms of accepting a known deal versus an unknown that may not be as good. Once the raises take effect, a savvy person would add to their deferred compensation deduction or set the new money aside in a quality mutual fund and begin to earn money on their raises.
I caution all the members, take a step back and put your initial emotions on hold. Look at the big picture and the overall impact before you decide whether this is a good thing or not. I am retired and this will not impact me in any way so I have no skin in this game. However, I do have previous experience with the City and contracts so it is not as if this was coming from someone with little or no experience. It all goes back to the ancient adage, “A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.”
People.. stop praying for residency. It’s a nice thought but it’s not even on the table from the city or the fop. Fop didn’t ask for it and the city hasn’t mentioned it. If the FOP wanted it then the city would get every single thing they asked for. I’m sure the only thing to actually get residency is if the bargaining unit and all protections were taken away. Some idiots on this job would still give up everything just to go live in a “changing” suburb that more than likely has more emerging problems in their current neighborhood.

Have any of you talk to some coppers and some of these areas that you want to relocate to? I have coppers that are friends they work in Naperville, Westmont, Lagrange the shit is coming in everywhere there is really no place to run in property taxes out there double what you’re paying here even though ours keeps going on. They have been talking about getting rid of residency for about 30 to 40 years it’s not gonna happen young millennials if you don’t wanna live here I’m sorry, Young millennials again I’m saying the same thing maybe you need to look for another job in another department which many are hiring to see if the grass is greener, but also remember the politics in a small department is a lot greater than it is here and you can’t move around from a different area like we can here to different units different divisions different districts you may be stuck On midnights for a lot longer of a time that’s just the way it is.
9/20/19 -0626 hrs.
Become better informed or change your fucking job occupation tou moron. Why are you mad that our union isn't as good at negotiating as the Teachers Union. Furthermore, you have no clue about the public school system problems and why should you care. Your kids are are in the Private school system and you still complain about the public schools.Get a life. And yes, I'm a 27 yr CPD officer married to a highly qualified and educated COS teacher and have 2 sons who both attended selective enrollment schools because of their grades and our involvement in our kids lives. Get a fucking life !
Residency???

They haven’t had an election because no one wants to do the job, the pay is $1800 for the year. No compensation for days off spent negotiating, no compensation for meetings attended on RDOs, they fill the spots with friends because no one else will step up.
What's going to happen if they merge us with the Sheriff's dept. I guess residency will be all of Cook County?

So active duty and retiree insurance will be the same. The retiree insurance under the 55 and out (or 60) will mirror the active duty benefits.

No transparency at all. At least inform the membership at a meeting or send out an email about vacancy's. The way it is now the membership only finds out that positions were filled at the meetings, not that they were open to begin with. Going to meetings is considered a tour of duty so don't bullshit people how rough you got it.
The economy is smoking , lowest unemployment rate in 53 yrs., chgo casino, weed taxes, 91 dispensaries in chgo, sports book, dozens of new buildings going up. chgo is rolling in money but only for teachers who can strike. notice how the sgt, lts, captains folded just before new promotions tests are about to be given. yes its all legit. blu flu sick out needed. wake up people ,your not slaves they are taking food out of your families mouths on purpose. take action.
the fop (f--- our police) the same union that let the city fund the pensions at 90% but not until 2055 even though there was a law that said otherwise. now the city wants to go bankrupt. start making a list of names of people who say the city can't go bankrupt or even better your pension can't go bankrupt. record them with your cell phone because they are full of shit. laws change people , that's how you screw over people in America , you pass a law and stand behind it and say its the law. sorry its the law. wake up people their fuc-ing over your family , while they get rich at your expense. fu-- you a 2% raise.

Not sure that the FOP let the city change the law and get it extended until 2055. They do not ask the FOP ‘s permission regarding the laws. May ask FOP for input but downstate passes and changes the laws. Just business as usual by kicking the can
