- The Chicago Transit Authority has seen a rise in violent crimes this year despite tens of thousands of surveillance cameras deployed throughout the train system.
Yeah, because all those cameras just leap off the walls and ceilings to arrest criminals and maintain a high-visibility presence on CTA property.
As we've said a couple dozen times, the only thing all those cameras do is (A) enrich some connected firm and (B) preserve the moment that you became a crime victim in a full color HD picture suitable for framing.

- CTA officials said that the serious crimes on Chicago's "L" trains are comparatively rare, considering that there are 1.5 million rides every week day. But riders remain nervous about the attacks.
Chicago police said there's been more than 4,400 reports of serious felonies on the CTA so far. It's 6% higher than those reported last year.
And arrests are down. A lot. The report claims manpower is up forty-four officers, but has anyone actually seen them? The current command staff has chased a lot of officers out of the Unit and the rest can't be found anywhere useful most times. How often have you heard, "No Mass Transit Units available"?

How Cindy Sam still has a job is mind boggling. Who would have thought that crime would be up when the do nothing members of mass transit sit in hotels all shift long? Crazy!
How can any of this be agreed upon without presenting it to the membership for a vote?? How are they bypassing that process? What kind of chicanery is this? What did the city buy the board members off with? Let’s see, the last Vice President Chris Petis was on the negotiation team, then suddenly gets a merit bump to lieutenant, even after having multiple disciplinary suspensions and being investigated by the IG with regards to the “lie-tenants” test? Wannabe tough guy Bilotta who’s been hiding inside at the union for over a decade, and that moron Pleines were also part of the same negotiation crew that tried to screw us with the last garbage contract proposal they agreed to, and which was dangerously tied to pension agreements, which was then voted down by nearly 90% of the membership.
What kind of idiot takes 1/3 less than what was offered to the teachers who barely pay shit to their pension?!? And why didn’t they release this information to the membership prior to the meeting yesterday? Oh, because they know that shit would have hit the fan.... The assholes on the board of directors who agreed to this fucked up deal out to be run out of town on a rail.

I ride the Blue Line to and from work every day from Jefferson Park. You would not believe the homeless and mentally ill camping out all over the seats on the trains as if it's their own private bedroom. Add to that the horrid stench, smoking, constant begging for money and violent taunting of decent riders, and you have one unbelievable mess. Don't the camera work on the trains? Don't the conductors see what's going on? I guess don't want to bothered. We really need a complete CTA overhaul beginning with the lazy, corrupt superiors. Gosh, more of a police presence would sure be a welcome thing to see! Thanks, Officers, for eveyrthing you do!
My sources tell me that after Groot read the Tribune story about the spike in crime, she had the police helicopter land her in front of Baby Gs' house and order him out of retirement. He told her he wouldn't do it. Not for just 10% over 6 years.
Anyone attacked/robbed on the CTA should sue the shit out of the CTA for lack of security. A liberal judge will side with you, the victim. Get a settlement.

It amuses me when my friends who own businesses and houses want to spend a lot of money on a camera system. I said that’s great then you’ll have a good video of a guy in a hoody who robbed you, and will never get caught. Even if he is caught you will never get what they took from you and he’s probably not gonna go to jail. Use that money to get concealed carry, a gun and better insurance.

Ride trains in NY/NJ. The police presence is incredible. Beside regular coppers, they regularly have swat geared up and carrying ever so scary black rifles. Chicago is pathetic in comparison. Gotta be Grant's and DHS money for anyone at 35th willing to search for it.

Mass transit is a joke, squad give a number for an upper and a lower. That's called driving by a station, never getting out of the car. And you never ever see these guys riding the trains. The now former CO was the usual merit nightmare. They just followed that example. Just do nothing.

Would like to see the submarine and a couple other sites there, but think a bonded uniform and a fair amount of legal ironmongery would be required to prevent/in case of wildlife attack to wander around Chicago anywhere.

I don’t understand the point of the transit unit in its current state. I don’t think I’ve ever actually seen a copper on the trains or platforms. And anytime something happens on the CTA, the guys sitting in the transit cars on street level don’t take the paper, they don’t even get out of their cars. So again, as the unit exists currently, I don’t understand their function. Now in their defense a little bit, you can’t expect these coppers to ride the trains and be on the platforms when anytime you go underground the radios don’t work. So for a 3rd time, I don’t understand their existence in their current state.
Maybe the real reason is the state declared all public transportation a "no gun" zone so no one can protect themselves. Guess what....The criminals know that!!!
CTA Mass Transit is the crime highway of choice if you can't "JACK" a car. Dude, Inc. is ride sharing with potential victims on the trains and busses. Passengers are literally targets of opportunity by the gangbangers on their way to the next shooting. Also the homeless riding CTA add the classic look, so valued in such Democratic cities as LA, San Francisco and Seattle. Its fashionable to show off the homeless. The CTA is their "mobile home". The passengers only visiting the homeless as they go to work so they can pay more taxes.
The cameras will soon be used as a marketing devise so that CTA crime survivors can purchase a picture of their muggings just like at Disneyland when you finish the roller coaster ride. The money will go to help pay that $838M budget short fall. Lori is a clever little girl.

When you go to Disney or other theme parks and are on the thrill ride, there is a section where you get your picture taken on the ride vehicle. This image is then sold, for a pretty penny, to the tourist as a souvenir. Lots of takers always!
Now, no victim of Chicago crime would pay for a souvenir photo. Those are painful memories, not good ones.
However... This is the real world and there are millions of sick fucks online. I suggest the CTA/City proper make these Chicago souvenir photos for sale. These would be best sellers overnight!

It's not just crime on CTA L trains that make our public transportation unpleasant and fearful - it's the tolerance for un civil behavior like low lifes acting up on trains, hassling people, wearing their pants below their buts, doing sexual harassment.
I rode an Green Line El Train to the West loop last tues and there was just a crew performing in the aisle, intimidating riders.
I'm armed with self defense weapons that are not guns, so I don't get intimidated, but others - women, the elderly more timid people are very intimidated. It's like cat and mouse and these low lifes take great pleasure in just intimidating people, taking over trains and platforms.
I'd walk B4 riding the CTA.

couple words of advice. you get what you pay for. do not go out after dark and always be mindful of your surroundings. Stay off CTA trains! pay for legit cabs with city medallions affixed to the hod of the cab (they've been checked and have more to lose). don't fall pray to the two young females who'll tell you everything you fantasized about, unless it included get robbed, ppssibly beaten and attempt blackmail when they claim they'll go to police and/or your job/family. the list goes on and on... enjoy your stay!

Maybe it is time for the CTA to roll out their own police department. They used to have CTA Police many years ago, but they were mainly relegated to picking up huge containers of coins at el stations back in the day. No more need for that, with the Ventra cards. I don't see the CPD being able to give the crime issues on the CTA the attention that they deserve, when so much is going on in the streets. But a dedicated CTA police department could make a difference.
