- A would-be robber had a change of mind Wednesday when he realized his target was an on-duty Chicago police officer in civilian clothes.
The officer was sitting inside an civilian vehicle outside of a scheduled CAPS meeting on the South Side when two males drove up in a black pickup truck, an armed passenger exited and announced a robbery, Chicago police said.
The armed male left when he realized he was robbing a CPD officer, police said.
The attempted robbery happened about 6:25 p.m. in the 2900 block of South Vernon Parkway, police said.
Situational awareness boys and girls. Especially in that part of town.

Seems as if the officer was quite lucky.
Glad the robber got smart and fled.
It could have been much worse.
The armed robber just left ?
The same clowns that tried to rob the off duty PO, did the exact same robbery earlier in 003. As usual, they were driving a stolen car and got away. Had the of duty PO shot one, or both of them, I can only imagine the headlines screaming for accountability.
Just a sign of the times! I’m sure the bad men left because the officer, in an unmarked police vehicle was broke. Police are underpaid, a lot bankrupt, City makes us pay them with threats of firing and write ups. Not many officers have real money. When the bad guys realized it was a City car and broke worker, working without a contract. They said “fuck it, No money on this one, mo money up the block “ “let’s jump, it isn’t worth busting a cap, we feel sorry for her, let’s just roll”. They were herd up the block conversing on what’s a CIT Officer or force mitigation. Last reports are they be gone and in the wind.
Squad can I get an event number for; another positive community interaction.
All fun a side; Stay safe and thank god the officer is ok. It could have really been bad. I tried to make light of it just to stop from getting mad at this political climate we are in. We have to go the long haul. Let’s all make it to retirement.
"The armed male left when he realized he was robbing a CPD officer, police said."
And how, prey tell, did he, the armed male robber, realize that?
Before his flight, how and when did the gunman realize that his about-to-be victim was a (on-duty in plain clothes) police officer?
Black pickup truck was found/recover in 8th district by incident team from 008

The officer was dressed in civilian clothes and was uninjured, police said. No one is in custody as Area Central detectives investigate.
This is why we can't have nice things. Now you know why I drive a crappy car.
CPD: Shecker Greene
CFD: Shecky Greene
(Brothers)
Shecker was in the car. Case closed.
There apparently was no situational awareness if they got up on the officer and the officer wasn’t able to take any police action. Even in civilian clothes I assume the officer was armed if on duty
One too many hits on that Vape pipe
Definitely a huge OH SHIT moment.
Now, kees me you fool!!!!
Don't tell me....
CPD was in his Andrew 'Beef' Johnston disguise,
Titleist cap and full beard, but the thief saw right thru it
and promptly split
Merit hack working HUA (Head Up Ass). Unreal.
This is why CAPS officers and CAPS supervisors should be in full police uniform, including a vest and
full duty belt. Why was the officer driving a non city vehicle?
Probably no vest either.
Was there a gun battle?
Was offender quickly arrested?
Something about this incident just doesn't add up. Sounds like a bunch of bullshit to me
I guess the CAPS officer was in her personal vehicle in civilian clothes, but had a CPD shirt on that the shitheads recognized. That’s what I’ve heard from people close to it. Take it for whatever thats worth. I didn’t know CAPS officers drove their personal vehicles to meetings. Seems silly,
Please be aware that the situation is... You are about to get robbed while on duty!

So you can go home right from the meeting and not have to return the squad to the station and check off.
