- Mayor Lori Lightfoot on Thursday introduced retired Dallas Police Chief David Brown as her choice to be Chicago’s next police superintendent. Chicago needs the best, Lightfoot said, and “in this town, at this time, David Brown is the absolute best.”
Brown then took the microphone, saying he was “deeply honored and humbled” by the appointment and thanking Lightfoot for her “faith and confidence in me.” He said Chicago is a lot like Dallas: “strong, proud and tough — not to mention the great barbecue.”
Brown was the obvious front-runner — and the recommended choice of Police Board President Ghian Foreman — after the board announced a list of finalists that also included Aurora Police chief Kristen Ziman and the CPD’s Deputy Chief Ernest Cato.
Any guesses as to how long the honeymoon lasts? And who will be the First Deputy?

Chief Brown , post a list in rank order by score , promotions In groups of 50 , require a short oral exam (pass/Fail) while attending Sergeants school . Doing this you will never have to promote a police officer that scored between 50-69% . I bet your standards for promotion in Dallas did not allow Police Officers that scored under 79% to be promoted to Sergeant or Lieutenant.
End the useless rank of Captain / Inspector , a Sergeant can be and should be assigned as Inspector .
One Captain /Inspector should have been fired , you may want to investigate him .

Put an insider from the chicago police department in this position who at least has some supervisory background and problem solving skills. You posted this same nonsense a week or two ago. I know you’re hoping that they arbitrarily decide that 70% and above get promoted because you previously stated you scored a 70%, but the city laid out the ground rules for the exam, and Part 1 was stated to be pass/fail. Now you can make an argument that passing should be 65%, 70%, 80% or whatever to move onto Part 2, but that’s something that needs to be stated prior to the exam being administered. If they promote based on Part 1’s scores, the city can count on a lawsuit. Good luck with Part 2 of the exam kid.

I thought all the HQ sworn were getting dumped back to patrol May 1st as part of the Dept of Public Safety consolidation? So he can’t be supervising up to 18 sworn. This guy has the same spot basically that Huberman had as an ADS and Goldstein had as a commander, not to mention Felipe has as a commander. Every sworn PO Sgt LT and Capt assigned to Data Systems or ISD or even OEMC Public Safety IT is there because they know IT and/or are clouted. Quit thinking you need some hard charging CPD gold star who spent their career working the streets in that spot. Anyone can manage a group of POs to handle IT stuff if they have the knowledge of IT, it’s not a spot for a career lawman, it’s a spot for a IT professional. if they happen to have the knowledge and be sworn so be it.

Unfortunately the CPD can not have an insider ever again. They’re way too corrupt. The just promote each other and their wives and girlfriends and friends of friends. It’s like giving the burglar the combination to the safe.

I’m willing to give the guy a chance. Let’s face it, there’s no way to escape the anti-police agenda for neutering the police: implicit bias training, deescalation, etc etc. If we are totally honest with ourselves, we can’t do things the same as was done 50 years ago. It doesn’t excuse the public or community from doing their part. That’s where I think all this police reform goes horribly wrong and why most officers roll their eyes at all of the above. It’s like being in a bad marriage where both people are wrong part of the time, but one of them plays “victim” really well and never accepts any responsibility for what they do wrong. The onus ends up falling on one partner in the relationship & they never accomplish anything despite years of marriage counseling. Hopefully, this guy is smart enough to see this. After the last homegrown Superintendent you should welcome a non merit outsider to the CPD. No buddies to promote no merit promotions on his record. What is the problem? you must have failed the promotion exam. I worked a beat car in a very busy district. I studied hard after work and on my days off, and when my furlough came,I stayed home to study even more. I then paid good money to attend one of the promotional study groups led by an out of towner. No,I was not invited to a " secret study group" let by an exempt who had access to the actual exam. And, yes, I was promoted. Yes, it can be done and yes the deck is a bit stacked against you when you have merits and those in those study groups run by " subject matter experts". So, until things are changed, you stop your whinning and get to reading

The job isn't, and shouldn't be, based on demographics. I don't care if the Supe is male, female, white, black, hispanic; gay or straight. I want the best qualified person in there who will have the balls to stand up against clout and politics and make decisions that promote cohesion, safety and good policing. So he threw his hat in the ring because the Dallas pensioned the combined C.P.D. salary puts him somewhere in the 400,00 salary range. We know this because no matter how good or how well of a shape the Dallas P.D. is in, It still has its share of problems that he could have stayed on and fixed. Brown is not coming here because he cares about
Chicago, or because he wants to make it better for the people that live here. He came here for the money. Period. And he was given the job because Lightfoot has zero trust in the entire command staff and hates everyone wearing the uniform. She was lousy, miserable fraud of CR sgt. Always on everyone's ass acting all prim and proper, when in reality she was in way over her head. Hiding and burying work, then lying saying the she never received it. Lost her cover when her boy McN left and was just about to be launched before her promotion saved her. A real piece of work. To pour salt on the wound many people have reported that Deputy Chief Khan is trying his hardest to get sworn in so he can wear our uniform. Really if they allow this that would be disgrace to the department. This guy has never worked in the Chicago Police Department, really has no clue how things work in the Department but wants to be sworn because he worked in Skokie for a couple of years.
If the department does this the message they are sending is nothing short of negative and disgraceful. It would be a true kick in the face TRULY. Even superintendents that were outsiders never asked for this or even did this (out of respect). Remember transparency is the answer for everything.
Matt Cline was an excellent street with his partner, DOS. They worked in 011. How many people with that kind of juice would work in 011, much less be working cops.
Believe it or not...Escamila was a great street cop in 011. I've heard he's a pos boss, but he WAS a great street cop in the ghetto.
Can't say that for too many bosses.

you are likely a Merit Lt. that doesn't know or enforce cpd rulles and regulations , afraid of your own shadow

Inspector is not an exempt rank.
There is also no Inspector rank in the rank structure of the department.
They are Captains now and before they were Lts. Do you know why they are Captains now? Because when a Captain was the W/C they were told many a time to beat feet.
Study up for part two little buddy, it’s a lot harder than part one.
Remember though, an Inspector is a Captain, Captains are not exempt just because they have a gold star. It’s a Commander or above just as it always has.
