Academy Reopens?

We guess the number of people putting in to retire rose unexpectedly as the Department reopened the Academy to classes. Guess who's telling war stories on Day One?
  • When Chicago Police Supt. David Brown began his career in 1983, police officers hurriedly thumbed through map books to find unfamiliar streets.

A few years later, when they got computers, they were so big, there was barely enough room left in the patrol car for the cops.
Does Brown know we still have paper maps? Many FTO's that still hand them out to recruits on their first day and expect them to know it front and back by the end of the week.

We did some digging and located this picture of the first Dallas PD computer being loaded into a squad car for a day on the street:

It took four or five guys to load it up. The keyboard had to ride in a sidecar. And can you imagine what it must have been like for Brownie to have to take that into his first Domestic Battery call to do a report?

On a serious note, anyone have the stats on how many recruits are in the Academy, and how many didn't show up for the reopening? We heard it was more than a few, and retirement numbers are climbing. The Department is heading into a crisis - more leaving and hiring not keeping up with attrition.

I want to know how many people signed up for the last 2 police tests. And how many showed up for the test.

Heard that about half of people called to report to the academy for training don't show.

If they give another test I wonder how many will sign up.

What if they gave a police department and nobody came?

Brown, take off our uniform.
You look ridiculous. You look like a rookie in their 10th week of training.

You don't have awards that everyone else got for doing nothing.
DNC, CAPS I, CAPS II, CAPS III etc etc, etc.
Crime Reduction I, Crime Reduction II, Crime Reduction etc, etc, etc.

Maybe you can start with a "Corona 19 award" or an "Outrage Award" for each of the
last four weeks. If you insist on wearing the costume, give yourself a "Dress Right" award,
because you do look stunning. Kissing Bandit, do you agree?

Then you can give yourself the "Winning Award" for the first weekend of single digit murders.
That won't happen till a December weekend of four feet of snow. Unfortunately, you'll be gone by then.

Supervisors who want to take advantage of getting the age 55 deal at 2% and the age 60 deal which is free insurance will be leaving in mass numbers.

There will be a window probably between 22 September and 22 October to get the deal. Otherwise, the health insurance will go up to 3.5% for age 55 to 59; and 1.5% for the age 60 deals. If you want to stay til' 63 it will still be free until Medicare age (age 65 currently)

Expect as many as 150 sergeants, lieutenants, captains as well as exempts going back to civil service ranks to get out by late October.

I like the numbers that more are retiring than being hired— Atleast the city should slash budget in preparation for the flight of citizens along with their delicious tax money.

Honestly how can you expect to have employees on the books if ain’t no money coming in; plus CPS is only putting out activist and not high skilled students. No tax money anywhere to be stolen. Quickly Groot, put up a red camera light from a tree. You can’t afford a pole.

Said there are two classes from the end of 2019 going back in segments, one had already taken the state exam.
They also reported the academy is poorly managed. Said it’s not uncommon for the class that came in after you to have more training, no set schedule for training.

There is not a new class of recruits in the academy. The class that has returned is class 19-7 which had only a few weeks left to finish before graduating when the pandemic struck. You’re right except the captains are not civil service ranks, civil-service rank stops at lieutenant captains are a political position just like everything above them that is in used to take more from the pension fun, for politically connected people remember the Chicago fire department stopped the gold break Pension at Lieutenant our pension still gives these bloated exempt ranks and captains the huge Pension dip which hurts the pension but that’s politics!

And that horrible all city chase where the woman was killed - any superintendent w common sense knowledge of this city would have heard at least a TWEET about how much ground that was covering and for real TERMINATED that disaster
Police car on fire kinzie and orleans - I see the corner perfectly brownie he must be like where???
I was a bike messenger when I moved here I learned my grid FAST with the Chicagoland seven county street atlas (remember those, still have one)
I’m guessing brown relies on the internet for his spatial awareness and that does no one citizens nor cops any favors.
Knowing the map front and back should ABSOLUTELY be a requirement let’s quiz brown

Did Dallas PD allow police officers that scored under 70% to get promoted . You can see the problem with unqualified command staff , time to end the politics in CPD .

Start by firing the coward captain merit escamillaescamerit
you did away with captains in Dallas , get rid of captains and inspectors on cpd as a sergeant , I can compliment and discipline the fine officers that work for me .

Been retired since 1996. Do your self a favor about 2-3 years from retirement, have a plan. Don't wait until you do retire if you are under 60. If you need to return to school for your next career, do so. If you need certifications, look into the qualifications. Be prepared that some industries that would have hired retired police automatically, will not do it now. Part of the 'woke" crowd or have been through the "higher education" Marxist Academies and will have nothing to do with you. Not pissing on your parade, but reality must be faced. Having a plan will help you survive, similar to planning a vacation after you return from one, avoid the depression.

Most of you have seen more crime, dead bodies and victims destroyed by these criminals than 90% of the police in this world. Had good cases tossed because Kimmy will not prosecute anyone. Larri "The Legend" has been your boss and you need to find a way to survive this idiot until you do retire. God Bless you on your next endeavor, what ever that is and I hope it is in another place where you can breath fresh air.

Look at what happened after the Apartheid in South Africa with regard to the police force. Fat, lazy, corrupt is the norm now. The new normal in America will be the woke cop kneeling rather than arresting. And you know diversity is King. In the UK they are downgrading fitness tests because chicks can't pass the tests. So hey let's just give them a special test so they can pass. Makes perfect sense in this upside down world.

As you see they have folks in charge just like we do here, got to kiss ass and pander for the sake of diversity. Jan Berry, chairman of the Police Federation, said: "We welcome the decision to amend the tests. We want to ensure that many good potential officers of both sexes, who would otherwise be lost to the service, stand a fairer chance of becoming police officers without falling at the first hurdle." This fool talks about fair when they have to give special help to get the ones they want in to pass? Yep real fair system. Folks in the UK pay so much in taxes and will get even less in police service from incompetent, weak individuals they hire. These people will be the protester type, the whiners, the moaners, out of shape, entitled and still get hired and promoted due to gender, color or sexual preference. But makes a great recruitment ad. The whole world has gone insane. The UK is a cesspool. I'd rather live in the Philippines than the UK today.

Anyone with an honorable discharge can get VA. Not the best, but not the worst. And once over 50%, it's basically free. Anyone with a combat arms MOS can easily get over the hump, as well a support MOS with a nexus. I put the process off for 10 years post discharge, but after Trump cleaned house over there, ratings are on the fast track. And with a 30% discharge any qualified Federal job is greased in. A GS-9 or 10 could be an option for those that want to get out early and still have employment. Had a buddy go over to an alphabet agency and go OCONUS. Good place to be if we end up with Biden

I turn 50 in Jan 2021. I’m gone with 60%. I’ll find a job 29 hours a week with health insurance , don’t care about big pay .
Weekend , holidays off .

I’m with you. I just turned 50. I’m leaving w 22 years. 55%

I wish both you guys good luck, but getting health insurance with a part time job is really tough. Industry is cutting the full time jobs to part time to avoid the cost of healthcare. 29 hours a week and healthcare is going to be hard to find, but good luck

Why would anyone in today's world want to be a police officer. The job is NOT the same as it once was. This job has deteriorated so fast within the last 30 year's, its unbelieveable. Can't wait to retire fast enough from this circus.

Hubs retired at 51 and got a FT job with insurance. Doesn’t make a ton of money but with the pension, my job and the insurance on his new job (his salary much lower than mine so it costs less for the same insurance) we’re doing pretty good. Don’t be afraid. It’ll all work out.
