- SCC, Off topic, Strong rumor is the Mayors office has been calling around to various third party law firms asking, if they can fire Officers, going around [our] contract, and due process systems. They want to know what the repercussions would be if they did.
Hopefully, the penalties would be expensive. Contracts are supposed to be binding legal agreements and it should be painful to break them. We'd hate to see the FOP working on the Contract while Groot's minions were working a completely different angle behind the scenes.

Need to double check, then triple check, then double check the triple check to be absolutely sure it is true.
Wonder if any reputable law firm would want to be any part of that. The blowback on their reputation could be devastating.
Maybe hold off on arbitration until this is verified one way or the other.
Lightfeet can decrease the size of the department by about 30-40% if she would agree to 50 and 20 with full medical at 2% Many coppers in this demographic would take it and run right now to get off this job and out of this shithole city. That I can tell you!
Officers are fired all the time.. ask anybody. Disciplined too.... the city can take away your police powers at anytime. What is this narrative we can't be fired. I have a novel idea.. why not do a better job at filtering out employees likely to be problems. Or increase the pay to get a better pool of candidates you want to hire. We all know the answer to those questions.

I haven't heard anything about this but I believe it. This is just my opinion. They have a few cops down at callback for messed up domestics that should have gotten them fired, but when their significant others realized they would lose child support, they refused to cooperate and the cases got thrown out in court. So that might have something to do with it. Also, dont be surprised when the city pawns off more cases to the Inspector General's office for petty things that IAD and COPA should be handling. Old Joe's crew recommends termination, and it gives the city a layer of protection when legal affairs signs off on it. The city definitely is developing that attitude of "fire them, and let them sue to get their job back." Hoping coppers will be so disgusted and move on to doing something else with their lives. The City should be calling lawyers and asking if it's okay to Rule 14 and fire Anthony Escamerit before they worry about any peons. We know how corruption and cover-ups go hand in hand when it comes to the Exempts though.

I am also seeing young Officers, less then five years on, looking for other Departments to work for or leaving LE all together. Everyone I know and talk to can't wait to leave, whether through retirement, changing Departments, or changing careers. Couple this with the fact that it is getting harder and harder to find people who want to work for CPD and it is easy to see that the politicians are slowly killing off CPD. R.I.P. This and residency being changed will never happen. However if you look at what is being talked about and what is going on behind the scenes with the contract medical will be completely gone on retirement until you are 63 when you are forced to retire! This helps them retain the little bit of intelligence we have we have left on the department. Residency has been challenged many many times it will not change guaranteed take it to the bank they’ve been talking about this since the 1960s it’s not gonna happen if that is what you’re hoping for time to look for another department to work for simple as that.

You’re in a Gang Unit. Those are the arrests you’re supposed to be getting. And you’re in a non-bid unit, you can be sent back to the watch at any time.

Interesting. I spoke to an attorney friend from that same law firm last week and he told me that Groot's #1 goal as mayor is to break the back of the FOP. If she does that, she will consider her reign as successful. The attorney says it stems from her being foiled at getting more cops fired at any of her appointed jobs where she had some oversight of CPD -- CPD Office of Professional Standards, Chicago Police Board and the Chicago Police Accountability Task Force. This attorney has known her for decades and should be considered a reliable source.

If they were really lawyers they would be working in the private sector making real money but they can't cut it so they work for the city because Daddy or Mommy knows someone. Their biggest hope is to become a hack Cook County judge and cash out with a six figure pension and act like they worked for a living.

If the mayor is unable to do her duties, the Vice Mayor takes over. The Vice Mayor is Tom Tunney. We’d fare much better under his leadership. He respects the police.
Biggest problem now is her push to get officers licensed. Make no mistake about it, that will make you an at will employee. You’ll get your license taken away at her whim and you’re fired. Time to take this shit serious.

The Mayor is displaying odd, paranoid and avoidant behaviors. The FOP should demand that Mayor Larry be called to submit to random drug testing to determine if she is in violation of the city's employment drug policy.

Harold fired lots of folks for, lets say, "political" reasons. When a few of them fought back, he obtained the services of an all African American law firm. They conducted interviews and deposed many of those fired as well as co-workers identified as having first hand knowledge. These cases were eventually reversed, with back pay and restitution of jobs, but not before hundreds of billed hours were paid out in legal fees to these fine folks. Hundreds of hours, at $250, 300, 350 an hour. Back in 1986!. It's those law firms that later proved to be a bull pen for up and coming gentlemen about town who now conduct affairs of state as we speak.
I truly believe Lightfoot has a mental illness, she is always shaking,has mood swings, and is possibly bipolar. I request a full mental and medical examination.

A couple of commentators mentioned knowing lawyers at the law firm that lighthead is seeking advise from. FOP should be asking these members to come forward and speak to Catanzara about this info.

as well it should be for every police officer and fire fighter. The public complains and thinks that this benefit that they do not get is unfair. But, they do not realize that cops and firefighters cannot work until their 60's, the body and the mind will not last. Only people with great spots or have gold stars stay that long, and they are nuts to do so, but they so love being called "commander" they cannot give that up to go home just to be an old retired man in baggy pants with the wife yelling at them
Old man Daley did not support any collective bargaining for police officers or firemen, neither did Bilandic. Jane Bryne loved the cops and granted the wish. The city council tried to gut the contract but lost. Harold Washington came in and also tried to gut the union and lost because of state law. Not once, in all of those years of fighting for a good contract and fair treatment was the FOP backed by or supported by the labor unions in this town. The Teamsters wanted the contract but dumped the cops when they lost it. Now, there is a national push to break up police unions and again not a word of support from any labor union to include the teachers. Every union operates the same way and protects its members, but only the cops are singled out. The city knows they lose in arbitration because they do not have the evidence and that is just and right, so the movement to fire you at the desk of the superintendent or take away your state license so you cannot work any more. Try that with the teachers first
