Please allow a long winded post with a request to your readers.
I retired in January, sold the house and landed in the South yesterday. The people here seem friendly, My wife and I were greeted by neighbors (all four from Illinois) with in literally 5 minutes of us unpacking the car, welcoming us to the neighborhood and assuring us we made the right decision. It's quiet here, the scenery is beautiful and we have a lot of exploring to do. Tonight is fireworks and most of the businesses are closed tomorrow because it's Sunday. People go to their church or houses of worship and spend the rest of their day with family. Most of houses here are decorated with the American Flag. I'm under the distinct impression that if you were to exercise your first amendment right by desecrating that flag, the second amendment right would be exercised extensively and unapologetically. The roads are well maintained and clean. Yes, I think I'm home.
Here's my request to my Brothers and Sisters of the CPD and fellow first responders. Please be careful. When you get a chance, and make it a priority, get out of Chicago. Take a drive with the family and go someplace else. Indiana, Michigan, Wisconsin, anywhere. Then, before you return, when the kids are in bed and the driving is done, when your spouse is occupied, go out by yourself, whether for a walk or on the porch of your getaway place or the balcony of your hotel room, and look around and be quiet. Don't think about the city, the department, the contract, the bills etc. Just soak it in and be quiet. We have a beautiful country, with the most generous people on earth, good people who may disagree with us but are always civil. We don't seem to have those things in Chicago anymore but I'm learning they still exist. Then take a picture in your mind of that time, and recall it when you're back at work, it will see you through another day until you can get out.

Places named after Indians: America may have a very poor record of interactions with Indians, but it cannot be denied that Whites respected their fighting abilities, and admired many things about them, and sought to emulate them. You certainly cannot say that about certain other demographic groups.

Here's an idea: If cops where to, um, quietly make this a sanctuary city for street weed dealers, you might make some friends. Pot is legal here now, harassing street dealers is crazy and only defends corporate weed dealers. You might even create good will in the community, and get some tips on baby murders n stuff.

Does anyone in the upper echelons of the department or the "government" realize that these constant protests are by design. The game plan is to wear out the police, keep police assets bogged down while mayhem runs wild in the city. Perhaps even to expose large groups of officers to covid thus taking them out for weeks. The city needs to stop blocking off traffic for these groups and provide them no protection whatsoever Let them go play in traffic
