Cops Injured
Crash in 011:
- Two Chicago police officers were injured in a crash early Saturday morning in Humboldt Park on the West Side, Chicago police said.
The officers were driving west through an intersection at the 4000 block of W. Chicago Ave. at around 2:45 a.m. when they swerved to avoid another vehicle, according to police.
The officers lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a pole, police said.
The car they swerved to avoid was another squad. Intersection accidents kill almost as many cops as gunfire.
Be careful and a speedy recovery wished to both officers.

Best to get there a minute or two late, than not at all. Think about your actions so you and others can go home safe. Don’t be selfish risking others life and stripping resources. Slow down!! Make sure those intersections are clear. Keep those damn lights and sirens off and do a safe speed. Keep your adrenaline down.you can be criminally charged and even face prison time for your negligence.

All for a foot chase AND a slow down was already given.

This isn’t a video game and if you’re trying to go on IOD on purpose there’s less hazardous ways to do it that doesn’t put the public or other officers at risk. Drive the speed limit! Stop completely at all stop signs. For traffic lights proceed thru at 3 mph. Lights and sirens at all scenes where possible suspect is present. Wait for 1 minute a block away so the perp can get away and no one can claim police brutality. Wake the fuck up!!! Policing is dead!

that's the new standard and quality of people department hires. good portion is mentally and emotionally unstable. most respectable departments would fail them on physical or mental eval. They should keep them 99 so they won't have opportunity to kill someone next to them. Shit was completely avoidable and slow down was given. It is hard to say it, but i hope department will start to fire officers that habitually crash and destroy without regard.

It's outside units like summer mobile and gangs that are in 011 and trying to lock up some dude on a block with 300 people. Then they start screaming for more cars and the people on the watch have to scramble to back them up.
At any rate any of you talking shit about the guys that crashed have no clue what your're talking about and should probably re-evaluate who's side your on. Some of you sound like the "community" members that were talking shit on scene. The squad that crashed didn't do anything wrong. Going to help other coppers and had a greenlight. They crashed themselves into a pole rather than hit the other squad (which would have most likely killed the passenger in the squad that ran the red). 011 leads the city in squad car accidents, hands down. Most of it is because of driving out of control to high intensity scenes. Its one thing to drive somewhere fast, and another to drive there out of control. If you get in an accident, you now draw resources away from the people who called for help in the first place. You cannot drive so fast that you cannot control your car at ALL times. That's what a large number of officers in 011 don't understand. Yes, get there quickly, but safely.
Both squads caused this accident, with one driving too fast, and the other failing to yield to oncoming traffic, both preventable.
To Mr. Self Righteous who works in the bad 011 and also knows about the north side districts. You’re an idiot. Clear the intersection no matter green or red. If your fellow co workers don’t have enough sense to stay off those side streets maybe they need a little lesson. Nobody including Lightfoot, Brown, alderman, citizens want the police on the block. Stay out and you won’t be calling a 10-1. Zero common sense.

Why do people keep expanding Humboldt Park boundaries. Humboldt Park ends at Kedzie on the West and California on the east. This all started in the real estate world. They did the same with Bucktown and Wicker Park. These young gunners need to slow down in thier driving. They are constantly running into each other at intersections,lay off that siren when getting to the intersection and put that drivers window down so you can hear outside. WTF you people are going to get hurt bad.

About 6 or 7 years ago I was driving southbound on Western (in the right-hand lane) and as I approached the intersection with 63rd, on a green light, a CPD marked car traveling eastbound blew through the intersection about 40 feet in front of me; lights, but no siren. A 20-something female was driving and her partner was a 50ish male who looked terrified ... I'll never forget the look on his face, as she didn't slow down AT ALL ... scared the daylights out of me as well.

You’re wrong. The car that crashed into the pole was speeding to assist a foot chase. Not a 10-1; a foot chase that was given a slowdown which they should be doing from now on. Read your General Orders.
