Be Aware of Scooters (UPDATE)
- An unmarked Chicago police car fatally struck a man riding a motorized scooter Wednesday in West Pullman in the Far South Side.
About 10:30 p.m., three officers were in an unmarked car driving south on Halsted Street with their emergency equipment on, when they crashed into a 33-year-old man who was riding a motorized scooter in the 11800 block of South Halsted Street, police said.
The 33-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
Don't these scooters have running lights?
Aren't riders supposed to wear reflective clothing?
Hopefully, the officers are in touch with EAP. These incidents are horrible as it is.
UPDATE: Yes, the deceased was on Dart's Electronic Non-Monitoring device. But don't look for that to be part of the media "reporting." They can't make a democrat look bad in an election year.

These, ATVs, dirtbikes, none with lights, I've seen a bunch flying around the east side of 022, and in 005 recently.
Almost creamed one myself a week or 2 back. Dude came shooting out of an alley, no lights nothing. Would have been ugly
The brief glimpse I saw on the news of the damaged scooter on scene. did not look of the street legal kind. If so. Shame on dude for driving recklessly as I have seen seen far too often while out on the job n off

It's a wonder more of them aren't hit. Four wheelers, scooters, mini bikes, are all over the west side, weaving through traffic, going through stop signs and red lights. Total mayhem.

The 33 y/o was driving a mini motorized bike like a lot of assholes do near the bike trail there but on Halsted. They always drive recklessly by speeding and going through stop lights and stop signs. They always try to antagonize the police too to get a reaction out of us. Also officers were injured pretty bad. Prayers for their recovery.
It was on the TV news that the scooter in this accident did not have any lights. The light kit available for the scooter had not been installed.

Are scooter supposed to be on the street or sidewalk? I do not plan on using the scooters, but do ride a bike. So I am wondering what the protocol is? Are bike lanes supposed to be shared by bikes and scooters?
I remember when motorized scooters were against the law. But when money is to be made, suddenly laws change.
So the city wants to tell you how to stay safe from the virus, social distancing ambassadors, contact tracing, mandatory masks, shut down stores, beaches, park, playground, etc. Seems to me that the chances of getting life threatening injuries from motorized scooters is much greater.
Hey Lori, where are the motorized scooter ambassadors to monitor and instruct riders? No demand that riders wear knee pads and helmets? How about pedestrians walking on sidewalks? Are they supposed to "share the sidewalks" with them?

My guess is that not only did it not have lights but it wasn't registered as it should be and he didn't have a driver's license or insurance. From the pictures this wasn't one of those battery scooters destined to end up in the lake but basically a gas engined mini motorcycle illegally zipping around on a public roadway.
Supposedly his leg was severed. The electronic monitoring bracelet was still attached though.

Yeah that’s all the superhero gang and gun clowns. Gonna be an everyday thing if brownie has his way. Now they can tell stories of the times they had to police call a vacant lot in the hood instead of pinching a hype with a gram.
Another failure by dart and em director Carmen Ruffin. Why this lady hasn’t been shit canned yet is a mystery. I’ve never had so many cases involving guys on house arrest than I have in the last year.

See what happens if you chase one and they then are involved in an accident with injuries.

Oh my young grasshopper, they've been using those for years to transport dope and guns. Handled atleast a half dozen shootings with offender on a scooter. They always felt like the police wouldn't stop them on a scooter even in the you could stop people days of policing. Early 2000's they hit a boxcar on 58th and Seeley and snatched like 50 scooters, we were chasing scooters all summer. However, do not chase anyone kid. Stay safe and never trust someone on a scooter.
Back in my youth long ago, every time someone came up with a broken lawnmower, my friends and I would do our best to get the engine to work so that we could put it on an old bicycle.
It kept us out of real trouble.

FYI not all EM requires that they stay in the house. Some of the bracelets are just GPS devices. Someone monitoring them has to actually see that they have violated the geofence, which is sometimes crazy generous. Also some of them only required that the wearer not be within 1000 feet of a victim’s residence. So if our little evil knievel killed someone in Austin, that bracelet doesn’t mean anything.
I’d like to know the deceased’s CQH and how many victims he has left in the path of destruction during his years on this earth. I’m guessing no license either.
Prayers to the cops involved that there are no adverse consequences to their careers.
No one in the media will follow this up, but imagine how much settlement money dead guy’s several children by several baby mommas will be fighting over? I bet the city gives them at least a quarter million.

It can’t be, Mr. Dart, judge Evans and members of the sheriff’s EM team all say that it’s a wonderful program. It was just fluffed on tv yesterday. I couldn’t believe the length of time given to such a propaganda piece. It must have been payback for hiring someone’s relative, etc.... I felt like they were just outright lies??? They are all politicians and only lie when they are speaking. I’m sure the sheriff’s people don’t want to loose their spots too. You would think that with the large number of criminals on EM, even a small percentage of them going off the grid could be sizable! Are they putting syrup on shit and calling it pancakes?

There was a long story on tv yesterday saying what a wonderful program EM is. Why do I get the feeling that I’m being lied to when they spend so much time defending a program? With the large amount of participants on EM, even a small percentage who don’t go along with the program would be huge. That could be a problem!
3500 on home monitoring. 800 violations per day. 600 are verified but not serious enough to put dude back in the clink. 10 per day get housed. The sheriff says that this is a successful program ??????????
Yes coming from my parttime job last nite riding thru Englewood of course a small Dunn buggies type vehicle came flying of a side street with no lights on, I has to slam on the breaks a swerve to avoid hitting him. In my mind I was almost wishing I had but I also realize at that point and that location it would have quickly turned into a 10-1. 3 month's until bye bye Chicago
